Former Centerville star has taken name off of high school football challenge.

It is a good thing we got out in time. It is in the Dayton paper.

Heck, I don't blame him. They haven't updated their website for over a year now... This should show people how NOT to run and promote an event.

I compare this to running the State Championships. Outside people have no idea what the volunteers in Stark do, in putting together the Championship weekend. These people think its just a matter of putting together a few teams and everything will work.

I am just sick of all the Colerain fans talking smack about how noone wants to play them and Hoover is scared because the AHSAA said that Hoover could not play a football game in the Herbie on a Sunday. Stupid fans in Cincy---Alabama is in the heart of the bible belt and never has granted such an arrangement. Hoover coach feels its wrong for them not to allowed to play the game but Colerain says they are just scared of them!! Funny stuff from a team who does not even play the best competition in Ohio year after year!!

the Herbie will not last past this year if they can pull it off this year!! It does not look good for the games and I am glad we pulled out when we did.

I believe that CarlE and some others called for the pull-out months before we actually did. Great anticipation of what was to come.

If you ask the female population that went to school with Carle, he has been good at anticipating and recommending pull-outs  for a long time! LOL!!

"'I wanted it to become something run professionally and run the right way,' Herbstreit said."

With him removing his name from the event, you can more than read in between the lines on this one.

Such a shame imo. It's too bad it wasn't run better. I would have loved to see it become a major high school event every year.

The rules are the rules, PERIOD! Hoover knew when they signed the deal to play that Sunday games weren't allowed. However, they thought that they were above the rules and could do whatever they want. I hope they get stuck with an open date.

Actually, there is no rule against playing Sunday games in Alabama. I've been following this a little bit, and there is nothing in the Alabama High School Athletic Association rulebook that prohibits playing on a Sunday, it's more of a generally followed practice. If I was Hoover, and had a chance to play on this stage, I would have signed the contract too and expect that the state could make an exception for this particular instance.

If it were Massillon involved, we wouldn't be saying "oh well" either.

They should have simply asked the association if they could play on Sunday BEFORE signing the contract. Then this would be a non-issue. They signed the contract first, to strong-arm the association into letting them play. I would personally like them to play the game. It would be a great match-up.

The chances of a Colerain-Hoover matchup gets slimmer by the day. It will either be moved to Saturday, or won't happen at all.

Well, the teams will get to have their match-up afterall. I am glad that it worked out for the kids. I am sure it is a big deal for them:smile:

Hoover game vs Ohio power switched to a Saturday
HOOVER, Ala. - Hoover High's football game against Colerain High of Cincinnati, initially scrubbed by Alabama prep authorities because it was to be played on a Sunday, will be played after all - but not on a Sunday and not on national television.

Hoover Coach Rush Propst said Wednesday the Buccaneers will play Colerain High on Saturday, Sept 1. The game, featuring powerhouse prep football programs from both states, is viewed as the marquee matchup in the 11-game lineup for the third annual Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association ruled out a Sunday game, saying it is a day set aside for worship services.

"Our whole issue was we wanted exposure on national TV and (Sunday) was the time allotted on ESPN," Propst told The Birmingham News. "Our next-best option, and it's a good option, is to go back to Saturday. We just won't have 115 million homes watching."

With the college football season opening on Sept. 1, there were no time slots available for the game to be aired on national television.

The game is to be played at Nippert Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.

It will be a hot ticket, as it will be the most anticipated matchup of the festival. But I doubt it will be enough to ultimately save it. And I'm not upset at all that the Tigers won't be playing in the event. They're better off with Solon.

longtimefirsttime,

The Herbstreit definitely was a success in Massillon last year. We'll see how this year's classic is......

It may be a "hot" ticket, but I'm not so sure the game is going to showcase much talent. Neither team is considered to be "loaded" this year, and neither has a top 100 rated player in their region.
Hoover is currently being investigated for "preferential" treatment of their football players and a few other athletes due to information provided by their outgoing athletic director! Nice!

What do you mean by "preferential treatment". Grade fixing, strippers, etc.?
