I would like to discuss the decision to play all regular season games and I believe the scrimmages on turf. If we don't finish in the top four, we could play at the great confines of Perry or Hoover, as well as 2nd or 3rd round match-ups at the lovely Mansfield Mud Pit. With the new project being built I don't think we even have a grass field to practice on.

It really doesnt make a difference,,,more of something for the media to dissect then for the players to really worry about.

Isn't there a difference in getting used to different shoes turf v. cleats?

I like what coach stacy said in the paper about it prior to the Perry game last year............maybe LTFT can dig it up but he pretty much laughed it off........

I'm guessing that the team will be wearing regular spiked shoes on the new turf so there shouldn't be an adjustment regarding the type of shoes. The field conditions between turf and grass will be slightly different...but now the risk of a player injuring himself during practice by stepping on an unsmooth surface will be mitigated. If I remember correctly, this happened to Crable during preparations on the grass field before the Fitch game in 2002 and he had to sit out a few weeks with a broken bone in his foot.

It has yet to be a problem for us since we have got the turf.

It'll be a non issue!
All of our players will have had plenty of experience playing on grass, mud and snow growing up that it won't be a problem if that's the surface they're required to play on in HS.
And, I believe coach Stacy, the AD (Tim) and Mr. Vance will have the proper shoes available for all surfaces and situations this season!
BTW! For the first time in my life I'm predicting a State Championship this season. :no1:

“We talked to our guys and said, ‘What did you guys grow up playing on?’” Massillon coach Tom Stacy said. “I mean, come on. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. It wasn’t last year. I think playing on grass is what you make of it. If we make an issue of it ... we haven’t even really mentioned it to our players. If you make a big issue out of it, I think it becomes that. We certainly don’t think it’s going to be much of a factor."

Grass or turf...it doesn't make a difference. Just play the game.

Massillon is installing field turf. With field turf you wear normal cleats for grass and not turf shoes.

Are you talking about a field that the band practices on, or a field above where the band practices? I thought the band practiced on the parking lot.

They do. He must be talking about the complex up across the street from that where they do track, soccer, and midget football games.

TWBT--- your prediction sets well with me and I feel the same way you do. If we stay healthy and mentally strong we can get it done. Alot of teams have lost more than we have and we have gained some pretty good talent as well.
However--grass or turf it makes no differance. The only thing that happens is turf makes the the fast kids faster.
