He's not a complete player, yet. Once he starts making foul-shots, then he'll deserve first team.

james was beat out by duncan at forward. let's compare free throw stats:
james = 489-701 = .698
duncan = 362-568 = .637
if james isn't complete b/c of his free throws, and therfore isn't deserving of first team, then how is duncan more deserving?

He's deserving. But for some reason, some think he must still "pay his dues." Seasoned veterans seem to get more "breaks" even if their numbers aren't as good.

Funny stuff! However the 1st team is compiled of 2 guards 2power forwards and a 5o/50--- center/forward. The teams should be made up of traditional position players. Duncan or Dirk is 1st team and LeBron is the BEST small forward in basketball and 2nd best player in the league behind Kobe!

It's hard to argue against the players who made 1st team, but LeBron sure is one of the top 5 players in the NBA. I think they should explore the idea of expanding the All-NBA Team to maybe 8 players, regardless of position.
With that concept, my Top 8 would be:
LeBron James, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Shaq, Chauncey Billups, Amare Stoudemire.

First of all, Duncan played the 5 spot this year not the 4, thus Nowitzki should be the 4, Duncan the 5, Lebron the 3, Nash at 1, and Kobe at 2. Lebron is the best at his position and should be voted number one at that spot. Lebron is the only player in NBA history to match Oscar Robinson in scoring, rebounding and assist in his first four years. Noone in the history of the game is in the same breath as Lebron. If you can sit there and honestly say Lebron is not a first team NBA player you know nothing about the game!

I'm not saying LeBron isn't worthy of being All-NBA, I'm just saying that the system only allows for 5 guys. There are more than 5 great players in the NBA. If Duncan is the 5, Stoudemire is the 4 and Nowitzki is the 3. Kobe and Nash are the guards.
The question up for vote is who had the best season at the 3 spot? Dirk Nowitzki or LeBron James. Dirk is the NBA MVP. Last season, I think LeBron displaced Kobe out of the 2 guard spot.

TC---- Dirk, LeBron, Wade, etc,... NONE are better than Kobe at the 2 or 3 spot in the NBA. Kobe is the cream of the crop and if LA gets him half the talent that the Cavs or Dallas has he will kill the league and win more championships. You give Kiobe Gooden and the Lakers bounce Phoenix out the playoffs in the 1st round. Kobe has no help on his team---- Please do not say LaMar Odem because he lacks way to much aggressiveness to give Kobe what he needs. Look for Mitch Kupchick to lobby Minnesota for KG this off season. Kobe said he need a rebounder and defensive stopper in the middle and a legit PG to win it all---- even if he is the best!! Noone can handle tripple teams and when he passes out they all choke up!!
How can he perform better---- 1st team all NBA, will end up 3rd/4th in MVP voting, and 1st team all defense as well! A real complete player--1 above average PF the lakers will dominate the west.
Dirk is actually a PF but just plays soft in the paint as we saw in the Golden State series

I would take Duncan over James any day. He's the better player. If you want to compare stats. Check their FG Pct and Rebounds and don't forget that Duncan plays in a much tougher conference.
TigerCoach

I would argue that the Western Conference only has 3 top teams (San Antonio, Dallas, Phoenix), 3-5 (Houston, Utah, LA, Golden State) good ones and the rest are mediocre. The Eastern Conference is more balanced. Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Miami are the cream of the crop, and there are more competitive teams overall.

di you think that (maybe) duncan's higher field goal % has something to do with the fact that most of his points come in the paint???
let's look beyond field goal percentage and rebounds.......check their ppg, assists, 3-pt. %, and steals/game. lebron's in the top ten in scoring (top 5), assists (top 5), and steals. he's a more versatile player.
much tougher conference? not really. i agree with TC.

Don't they play the same position? Maybe James' FG Pct would be higher if he could get to the hoop like Duncan. I'm not saying that James isn't good, but somebody has to be left out and to me James is the one, at least for this year.

I'm curious and I don't know the answer, but I wonder what Cleveland's record was against the top teams in the West that you've listed.

He gets away with traveling all of the time, poor foul shooter, dips his shoulder into the defender rarely drawing a charge and manages to miss 10-15 games a season. At 7'2" he shoots from five feet or closer to the hoop. His FG Pct shouldn't be less the 80%.

A bigger travesty will be if Dirk Nowitski is actually named MVP!
Especially after his performance in the playoff losses to Golden State and his whining about having to play thru double teams. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
This just in Dirk, every other "STAR" in the NBA gets double teamed at times and is the focus of the opponents game planning too! You just can't handle it.

That's what I said in my 1st post---the votes are counted wrong it should be:
1st team:
PG--- Steve Nash
SG---Kobe
SF---LBJ
PF---Dirk (Kevin Garnett is actually better than Dirk and Duncan)
C--- Amere Stoidameire
2nd team
PG--- Billups
SG---Wade but he was hurt and Carmelo was suspended so it goes to Richard Hamilton
SF---Vince Carter or T-Mac
PF---Duncan
C--- Yao or PUNK @ss Shaq--- to me he is to big to always be crying about something

What about Josh Howard? T-Mac another over-rated player. Agree with you on Shaq. Pound for Pound Iverson is better than Shaq.

I have to agree Monte that Kobe is the best 2 or 3 guard in the league, but he is a HORRIBLE teammate. Kobe is a rediculous player, and if he could become a better teammate could be as good as Jordan was. The difference is Jordan appreciated and used his teammates to the best of their ability. Kobe wants to be the show (and that he is), but now is realizing he needs a supporting staff. I hope he gets (or now has) his head on straight so that we can see his raw talent shine. And please stop passing over the USA team, pay respect to your country and play (i.e. Jordan, Magic, Bird, Lebron, Melo, D-Wade). That last line is just a hope from me, nothing to do with this thread, sorry.

Josh Howard and his team really proved to me that they no killer instinct so he is reduced to 3rd team.
T-Mac has no help as well and Yao aint ready yet and that's why some do not consider him even all-star yet but i put him 2nd team.

How many times has AI achieved that goal? How many times has Shaq?

No matter your stance on who is better, how can you compare players based on championships? Seems to me like every superstar who has won had another very high quality player on the team (if not another superstar). Shaq had Kobe, Wade, and Hardaway to get to the finals. Iverson had
Mutumbo,McKie, and Snow. Seems like a big difference there.

I hate Mikki Moore.
He could play on my team because he hustles, rebounds, and plays defense which is sometime rare in the NBA. He payed his teams I remember 3 years ago watching the North carolina ABL game or something and he was playing for them trying to get a chance at the NBA. Hard work payed off for him and although he should be going fishing after game 5 I like his hustle!!

The polite term would be to call him a "journeyman." Others would call him a stiff. He was undrafted and shuffled to nine NBA teams in nine years. He averages just over 5 points per game for his career. Of course against Cleveland he looks like an all-star.
