Hearing rumors on other sports web sites that the Middletown school district may cut sports due to not passing their levy. May not be having a first game opener...

Might be true.
*****************
Officials with the 6,700-student Middletown district said they would have to cut about $7.3 million from the budget and eliminate high school busing, athletic programs and about 100 jobs after an emergency operating levy failed.
More than 200 students walked out of class Wednesday and protested the defeat before the Middletown School Board, and officials told them they would try to have another levy placed on the ballot in August.
Until then, they said, students would have to raise money to keep activities such as sports and band.

Let's pay for their buses to get up here. We don't need an open date with Solon up next.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to make a call to Canada or D.C. and have them send another sacrificial lamb to slaughter?

This is horrible news. I feel terrible for those kids. You have a tendency to forget how good we have it here in Tiger Town until you read a story like this. God bless the David Family ( and countless others) that have given us DREAM and many other wonderful gifts to this community. TIGERS FOREVER!

Not a bad idea to have a contigency plan. I understand it would lower the divisor but you really don't want an open date when others are playing their first game, especially before Solon.

Football coach Ron Johnson looked to the future of his program.
"It's disappointing, but we'll be fine," said Johnson, one of two high school coaches who will have his teaching position eliminated by the district's proposed staffing cuts. "We'll find a way to make it work. We will open at Massillon in front of 20,000 people."
The Middies are scheduled to open the season Aug. 24 at Massillon.
"These kids have invested too much," Johnson said. "We have to make it happen. It's imperative that we stay together. We need each and everyone of them."

I don't know much about all this stuff, but when we invite teams like this here to play us, don't they usually take home a bundle of money?
As I recall, one team from last year or the year before said that they made enough coming to Massillon to play to fund their football program for over a year.

This does make me feel very bad for the kids who are directly affected.

Why would they eliminate his teaching job? It seems to me that if he loses his teaching job, he may look for another job. Thus, Midddletown will then need a new coach. Doesn't make much sense to me. I do like his positive attitude during these difficult times.

Coach Stacy was asked about the game on Thursday night. He advised he feels for the people in that district but expects them to bring a full team ready to play in PBTS in week one.
