My bad, what is it ???

The percentage of counting cycles completed. After a while that number will be the only number to change.

If it's all electronic, why would it need counted at all?? And why more than once ???

One thing is that it is not ALL electronic.

Secondly think of the security measures that need to be gone through.

Also, consider this.

Each Machine stores the votes in a memory card inside the machine.
Each polling place usually has about 4 machines, Massillon alone has 20-24 places, So that is about 80 or so cards. Ever load something from a memory card, usually takes a minute or two. Now imagine 4 cards from the hundreds of polling places all over stark county coming in at once.

Also from what I understand the vote goes into several different memory banks on that memory card in case there are any bad sectors on that card. So they cycle through those sectors to confirm there are no missing votes, i would assume.

Also votes are printed onto a paper record. There are each individual vote made as it was made on the main roll in a sealed container that is removed from the machine after it is totalled and signed by all 4 polling place judges. Then another copy of that total is made, signed, and turned in outside of the sealed containers from the machine. I am sure they so some type of verification to match from those as well.

Plus hundreds of provisional ballots.

So there is a little more to it than pressing a button and "poof" results.

BTW, a lot of this is assumptions based on what I have seen of the system and based on how they post the results.

Most of the school requests are failing at this point, including Jackson and Perry. GlenOak is passing by the narrowist of margins.

The voting "cards" have an aasic chip that is similiar to the thousands that I have programmed. Believe me, they aren't even scratching the surface , as far as memory on these.

Why couldn't they come up with a voting station that feeds into a main server, so that all votes are constantly tabulated ??

First off, nothing is stored on the card you stick in the machine when you vote(the card that looks like a satellite tv card). That simply tells the machine which ballot to pull from it's memory. That is even blanked out after you vote.

the memory card for the machine is similar to a mini removable hard drive, but not the kind with platters, more like the memory used for a digital camera except larger. That is where the votes are stored. That card is removed by the pollworkers at the end of the day.

Not sure really... been awhile since I studied a voter list for Massillon...

But I would guess between 5000 and 8000. With about 3000-5000 np's that could easily just vote a democrat ballot, and about 3000-5000 republicans. You would be amazed at how many people in any given area are not registered to vote.

Final totals are in at the above link. The GlenOak school levy apparently has passed by 58 votes. Alliance had one pass. Perry, Canton City, Jackson, Louisville and Marlington all were defeated. Northwest had one up and one down. Parks levy failed.
