I bought some from a discount store while I was in college, only to read the packaging and find an endorsement from the Indian Dental Association.

Like the article said, expired toothpaste won't kill you, but a child ingesting large quantities might be in danger. Symptoms of fluoride toxicity can result after ingesting 3-5mg or fluoride per kg body weight, and usually starts with gastrointestinal problems. It's always wise to limit young children to a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on their brush and keep it out of reach while not in use.
