Does anyone else think 4.5 million dollars per month on his pro-rated contract is a bit excessive for a pitcher that's more than likely going to be mediocre at best on an already mediocre pitching staff?
Ya gotta love the desperation in the Yankee organization right now.

I think that they signed him only to prevent Boston from getting him. I have never liked the idea of pitchers only traveling with the team when they are scheduled to pitch. He did this with Houston. I also believe that Jack Morris did it with the Indians years ago. I'm sure that there are more, but it just doesn't seem like the teamly thing to do.

i think he is definitely going to be rusty, but i wouldn't necessarily say that he's going to be mediocre. the guy's era has been under 3 the last three seasons.

He's definately a freak of nature but his latest "layoff' is going to be the hardest thing he's ever had to come back from athletically. The "good life' and the "banquet circuit" can limit the abilities of the best of them.

He should have ridden into the sunset when he was on top. I have a feeling that he is going to be remembered for something bad that happens during one of these comebacks.

The yankees will be near the top in the east, by september. Remember they have to play the indians again. Plus clemens will be remembered as a hall of fame pitcher:deal:

No one can argue his accomplishments. But for the money they're paying him he shouldn't be allowed to dictate that he's only going to pitch home dates, every fifth day, etc.

Hot off the presses, Clemens began working out today. (Yawn.)

"And Clemens made a point of adamantly telling everyone he's not playing for the money, even if he is setting the record for the highest salary ($28 million) for a single year. Clemens recited something he said his sister recently said, saying, "I've got enough money saved in my lifetime to last four lifetimes."

Then why doesn't he give back to the game and play for free? $28 Million for every fifth game? I hope he gets shelled!

With his prorated salary and the luxury tax the Yankees have to pay, it will cost the team about $1 million per start. Incredible.

To much to offer but the Yankees have money to burn-- but this will not help them win the American League. GO INDIANS!!!!

LTFT!

Perhaps Brady Quinn should hire Clemens agent and demand a "Home game only" clause in his contract!
That would really tick CarlE off because he's hoping for a Quinn slaughter at every venue! Lol

I think that it is a grotesque understatement calling this salary excessive. In my eyes it is downright sinful. If he is not doing it for the money, then by all means donate it to all the grossly underpaid heroes and legends of baseball's past that are still alive and who are barely getting by.
Then I might have some respect for him as a person, besides what respect he has earned as a pitcher.

I could care less about a clipboard-carrying 3rd stringer. A.J. Hawk already slaughtered him in the Fiesta Bowl year before last.

CarlE,
Everybody knows that Brady let A.J. put the big hit on him so he could impress his sister and raise his draft status!

Ya know Bruddah, sometimes you shock me with your naivety! :ohplease:

Has anyone else wondered how Clemens avoids any link to HGH and other banned substances??

Also, someone on ESPN said it best: When Clemens goes into the HOF, he should wear a hat with a dollar sign on it. I can't blame the guy for what he gets, but that's a true statement.

They should nominate him, rescind it, re-nominate him, recall it.....
