TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) -- At the track where Dale Earnhardt dominated, and on the day he would have turned 56, Jeff Gordon scored career victory No. 77. It was the fitting venue, the perfect day, for Gordon to move past Earnhardt on NASCAR's wins list. And, as expected, it was wildly unpopular.

Fans littered the track with debris Sunday as Gordon crossed the finish line under caution at Talladega Superspeedway to move into sixth place on the win list...

obie7661,

I've been a Jeff Gordon fan for 12 proud years! He has championship tradition and it's only going to get better for the man, who is in first place in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series!

Kinda reminds you of the Marion Harding game when Shepas was here doesn't it? lol

Obiefan,

Everyone saw what happened the next year. Marion 0, Tigers 31. 24 of those 31 off of President turnovers! That was an imperative win for the Tigers because Marion tried to "jam it in their ___ like that." (had to use the Shepasism).

P.S. Wasn't Tiger Don the one who wrote the headline title "Tigers Assassinate The Presidents"?

Gordon will always be hated in the South. But you can't deny his talents.

(Please do not bring up the Marion Harding game. It's painful to me still today. It is the only sporting event I've attended in my lifetime where I truly believed "the fix was in.")

I personally can't stand Gordon, but you can't deny his talents, any track on the circuit he's a threat at, so you have to give him credit. The only think I think is funny is how long they waited to throw the caution. Ruitemman (sp?) blew up in the tri-oval and they didn't throw the caution until Gordon was in front of McMurry in the middle of turns 1 and 2. That's what happens when judgement is the call, kinda like the 500 (although that did turn out for my boy Harvick!!!!)

Mass6 I have to agree with you on stalling the caution. I also have to agree with Tony Stewart that first NASCAR lets in Toyota and now they sre the next WWF/WWE. They are delibrately throwing races. They been doing it for a couple years now. Yes freezing the field helps get safety crews where they are needed faster, but I would settle for racing back to the yellow. Freezing the field is just NASCAR's way of helping the driver they wanna win win. Although if it was my driver I would probabily not be saying that statement. But I will say this. NASCAR started going downhill at 5:16pm Febuary 18th, 2001.

Hmmm....He loves the Steelers and hates the Browns, Loves Michigan and hates Ohio State and is a fan of Jeff Gordon, the driver that most other NASCAR fans love to hate.....Anyone else seein' a pattern here?

Keno you probably loved the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan when they were beating the Cavs all those years in the playoffs too didn't ya?

MTigers006, you hit the nail on the head with that reply! Let them race back to the start finish line, if someone gets hurt, that's the risk they take. With all of the safety innovations that they now have, it can't be as bad as it used to be. The day Earnhardt died was the day Nascar lost not only it's best driver, but the day they lost their manhood as well. Let the drivers settle the races, not those putting the most money in Nascar's pockets! This season is kind of turning into Hendrick joke, there is no way those guys are that much better than everyone else!

If you look at this video, you can clearly see Keno celebrating amongst the thousands of dejected Cavs fans.

Fyrewood, it's the 18th anniversary of "The Shot" this week. Thanks for upsetting me all over again.

Fyrewood,

Clevelanders have not and will never forgive Michael Jeffrey Jordan for that game-winning shot back in 1989. I will admit I was a Bulls fan till he left the game in 1993 and for whatever reason, when he came back I thought he wouldn't be the same person.

What a price I paid...I wound up cheering against MJJ...he won three more titles.

But Jeff Gordon is #1 in the NNCS right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why were you a Bulls fan? Did Dennis Miller do a stand-up routine there once?

Dennis Miller did do a stand up in Chicago about three years ago! And I loved watching Michael Jordan!!

Why did you like the Bulls? Grow up there? Have relatives there? Or did you simply like them because they were good?

I'm sure Keno was a Louisville fan right up until Rutgers beat them, then became a huge Rutgers fan right up until they suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the mighty USF Bulls which already had a couple of losses, sending him into a quandry as to which band wagon to try to catch before the Um loss to OSU!
BTW Keno, there's two really good 11 year old golfers, 2 teen age phenom tennis players and a great young soccer player attending the IMG academy here in Bradenton Fl. that you may want to start familiarizing yourself with soon. They should all turn out to be worthy of you captainship on their band wagons. Just let me know if you want their names so you can start pimpin them now!

Whether or not you like his personality, he's a good driver. Same goes for Stewart. The Earnhardt/DEI story will be run into the ground by the media.
