From the back of the bus...
So, we're sitting on the bus outside the venue in Canton, Ohio, four shows into the tour, and it feels like we never took a break. All of our stupid inside jokes among the band are only funnier, and my admiration and love for this group of musicians has only grown. I still somehow manage to learn something every night, either from Terry's rhythmic phrasing, Aaron's ability to constantly try something completely new, Dweezil's ear for tone and different melodic ideas, Joe's propulsive energy, or any of these other monsters of their instruments. This short tour almost seems like a tease, but at least it feels like we're hitting our stride already, and the new songs in the set are starting to feel really comfortable. I still can't believe I get to play "Andy" every night, it's basically my favorite song ever recorded. Yet I know I could never get sick of playing any of these songs, or even listening to the rest of Frank's catalog. The more I delve into these albums the more unique musical concepts I find to be inspired by and to incorporate into our shows. I currently can't get enough of Lumpy Gravy, that album has so many different ideas packed into it it's amazing.
I can't help but think that I'm making connections that will last the rest of my life, and I really want to thank all the great fans who have been so supportive of this band from the beginning. There is some serious love in the room every night, and it all stems from this music, Frank's big note. It feels like we're all part of it.

Somewhere In Ohio
It's a day off today and we're headed to our hotel in Canton after a 13 hour drive from Minneapolis.
We've lost an hour overnight moving into east coast time, and most of us slept late into the afternoon. Sleeping in a bunk on the bus is a lot nicer than most people would imagine. It's a cozy space of your own and a private refuge when you're touring. Once the bus starts rolling, you find yourself lulled to sleep quickly in this warm, well-appointed cocoon.
It was good to be in Minneapolis again yesterday. Every time I visit there I wish I could stay longer. I've always wanted to drive out to Paisley Park and see Prince's studio complex. Maybe next time. Dweezil publically invited Prince to see last night's show during a radio interview - though I don't think the Purple One is in Minneapolis right now. Bobby Z, who played drums in The Revolution was in attendance last night as a guest of Steve Vai's, and if you grew up listening to Purple Rain like I did, it was exciting to see him there.
The show last night was the finest yet, with too many high points to count... but in particular, Dweezil's solo during "The Torture Never Stops" was some of his most inspired playing - and he was really in the zone. DZ has also devised more hand signals for the band, and deployed many of them last night during "Pound For A Brown" - along with some audience participation too. The audience didn't miss a beat either, as Dweezil conducted them from the stage. It was a great moment.
I've added a few shots from the last few nights to the "FZOTOS" section if this site. Check them out!
Also, if you've seen one of the recent shows, we'd love to read your reviews in our "Re:Views" forum. It's easy to sign up, and the band loves to read your comments.

That is a great lineup, but what's a Zappa tour without Suzy Creamcheese or Willie the Pimp?
