I thought this might spur some discussion here.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/EDUCATION/04/18/scotus.athletics.ap/index.html
"At issue is whether a private school in Tennessee has a free-speech right to contact prospective students about its sports programs, even though the school belongs to an athletic association with anti-recruiting rules that bar such contacts."

This is amazing. And people thought we went to far with the Jesse Scott case. I can't believe the United State Supreme Court is dealing with this issue.

If you want to compete fairly, this is an issue that USSC needs to finalize. If a private school wants to compete in an association or a league. They should have to follow the same rules as everybody else. This is what Iggy, St. Ed's, Moeller, St. X etc, have done for years. We in Massillon know all to well what they get away with. Play by the same rules or play by yourself, PERIOD!

I have posted this before. WE can PLAY by the same rules that St. Ed's, Moeller, Iggy and St. X follow. We just decide not too. We can promote our High School. We just need to include education with the sports. With the new DREAM project, I think we can link education with our GREAT sports programs. So lets not complain about the Privates and do something about it. They use the Rules to their advantage and we sit by and do nothing.

Good post:thumbsup: It simply has not been a priority of Massillon's admin. or BOE to positively and enthusiastically promote our schools to the public.

Wow... read the article. It says "A federal appeals court later ruled in favor of the school, saying the letter amounts to protected speech under the First Amendment. If that ruling stands, it would prevent all high school associations from enforcing recruiting rules, say lawyers for the state athletic association." Wouldn't that change the landscape of H.S. sports as we know it. I am not saying good, bad, or other. I am simply saying it would change things.

I've always wondered how the OHSAA can enforce its rules when the alleged violator is not a school employee, but rather merely a fan. How can a school be held responsible for a what a fan may say to a player at another school?
