I have done some digging and wanted to see how our defenses stacked up against each other over the last 25 years. here are the top 10 defenses with points allowed---in order

1. 1983--- 5.7ppg 9-1 record no playoffs!! Robbed of chance
2. 1982---6.8ppg 9-1 lost to Moe in state game
3. 1986---7.0ppg 7-3 missed playoffs
4. 1993---9.7ppg 9-1 lost in 2nd round
5. 1985---10.8ppg 7-3 missed playoffs
6. 2002---10.9ppg 8-2 lost in state semi finals
7. 1990---11.7ppg 7-3 lost in 2nd round
8. 1989---12.4ppg 8-3 lost in state semis
9. 2005---12.6ppg 9-1 lost in state finals
10. 1988--12.8ppg 7-3 SUSPENDED ranked #4 in state

Can anyone name the DI defensive players on those teams or anyone who made an impact. 1982 and 83 were some studs and thats when I really knew I wanted to play defense in HS and college. Anyone on TTT played on those teams or recall players. I just was comparing seasons and thought I would ask.

You should have gone back one more year to 1981. Not sure how the '81 defense stacked up against the others, but our class was good enough to play in the State Championship game...

How does a 7-3 team finish #4?

I think you meant the '80 team instead of '81. Very interesting stuff!

By beating top ranked teams during that season and losing to the DI semifinalist(WGH), and DII State champs by a combined 6points and a one point lose to Austintown on a last second Jeff Wilkens field goal.

Fyrewood--- 1981 and 1982 teams were great defenses that gave up 5.7ppg and 6.9ppg respectfully! I went twenty five years as a stopping point because then every year would of then needed added! Some every teams gave up like 6, 12, 26, etc,...points total for the whole season!

1978 & 1979 were also outstanding defenses. In 1978, they only gave up 39 point all season, went 9-0-1 and never made the playoffs. In 1979, we were 10-0, giving up only 24 points all year, and lost to Parma Padua 12-0 in the playoffs.

I remember the 1979 defense well, as the sophomore scout team QB, I was constantly running for my life from Kevin McClelland (Kentucky), Mike Hodgson (Wake Forest), Jamie Schlegle (Wake Forest), Dave Geschwind (Northeastern), Bob Simpson, Tim Reese, etc.

Defensive coaching staff in the late 70's and early 80's consisted of Jim Lectavits, Gary Wells, Dale Walterhouse, Butch Hose, Tom Jarvis.

that's the type of info I was seeking TC--- who were the players making the impact. Everyone knows the obvious players but the unknown or unwritten who the team needed for a spark or plays that noone alks about.

For our 1988 defense people talk about myself, Dunwiddie, Liggett, Pierce, Buckland but 2 players on that defense go untalked about that made us beasts--- David Ledwell(MLB), and Steve Harlan(NG) that made life easy for us. Everyday players who just love to be tigers make the differance. Brian Bauk (sp) played when Jason Relford was down and never missed a tackle or coverage--hard nosed player
