It's a Tiger Don story. Thanks to the Studer Family and the others involved for their lifetime of work in this project...

Great story about Junie! It's always great to hear about true Tiger fans and what they have contributed to the program. What a great addition that information/memorabilia will be to the museum, and a lot of credit goes out to Junie and all that helped him with it. I would love to someday see all of those articles/pictures in electronic form so they are preserved in another way.

He has dedicated thousands of hours to ensure Massillon's history and tradition will be preserved for future generations. Thank you!

Junie and his wife had/have a tremendous inpact on this community. Junie
has painted "The hoop" that the Tigers run through for years, besides running
Studer Signs, and the Tiger Store(the best ever).
I remember when they started their first store. Mrs. Studer printed
Championship Reds shirts, and gave my buddies and I free shirts!
I miss that store!
Thanks Mr. and Mrs Studer!

Great article. I know a couple of other people who are involved in helping with this. As for Junie, there isn't more of a Tiger alive. Awesome stuff!

A big THANK YOU goes to the Studer family for their true dedication and involvement in the Massillon Tiger Program. They are as much a part of Massillon's storied history as anybody.
Your idea about electronically preserving his "work" is a great one, TigerBri. I hope that comes to fruition someday. At the very least, it would be a great backup just in case there ever is a natural disaster or fire that destroys everything. I would go one further and label Junie and company "Elite" Tiger fans:trophy:
I miss that store also, it was definately handsdown the BEST! It was more than just a Tiger paraphanalia store, it was an atmosphere that gave you that little extra boosts of adrenaline before each football contest.
Just for the record, I do not know when Studers quit painting the hoop, but as long as I have been involved with cheerleading, the girls have been painting it. Gotta give them their rightful props:wink:

Tiger Don,
On behalf of the Massillon Tiger Football Booster Club I would like to publicly thank you for your comprehensive article on Junie Studer’s efforts as the organization's official Historian.
As depicted in your article, Junie has spent COUNTLESS hours collecting, compiling and cataloging the historical media of the Massillon Tiger football team, famous football alumni and the booster club. JUNIE IS A TRUE TIGER!
I would like to also thank you for providing a brief teaser of the new Paul Brown/ Massillon Tiger museum. Much work needs to be done to make the museum a reality but with good old fashioned Massillon hard work and perseverance it WILL be realized.
Thanks again!
GO TIGERS! UPHOLD THE TRADITION! :trophy:

I am very proud to say that my best friend from Massillon is Junie Studer. I've had the great privilege of being invited to the home Junie and Delores and have seen his outstanding and dedicated work in progress.
He works at this project dilligently every day and has for several years. He is painstakingly accurate in all his research. You folks are indeed fortunate to have a fellow Massillonian as Junie.
You won't find a better human being on this Earth than Junie Studer!! God bless him!!

This is a GREAT thread. And yes, I don't think ANYONE will question the loyalty and love that Mr. Studer has for his beloved Massillon Tigers. The fact that Warren1st has been to his house shouldn't dull the luster of Mr. Studer. TEASING Warren1st.
I want to make a suggestion for something in the museum. I think we should tape a debate between Warren1st and OrangeBlood on that Massillon/Warren game in the '50s where Warren1st thinks they got shafted. Special moderator could be the GREAT TigerCarl.

NO!! I know Carl's position on the game and, imho, he is incorrect. Regardless, he is too biased toward the Tigers.
I would suggest someone from Canton.
Here is something I wrote as notes a few years ago as I was interviewed on Youngstown's WKBN 570 radio station:
Massillon had their way with Warren from 1952 until the 1957 season. Harding had hired a new, young coach from Jackson, Ohio named Gene Slaughter. In Warren’s second game in ’57 under Slaughter, the Panthers totally dominated twice defending state champion Canton McKinley 31-7. Warren was at the top of the AP and UPI polls and stayed there as the Massillon game approached. As another story goes into depth about the game, I will only tell you my own experience.
I was a sophomore and what a grand feeling to have your school number one in the state!! I was so proud to be a Warren Harding Panther!! We knew it would be tough to win in TigerTown!! However, we knew we had the horses to win. I believe with all my heart Harding was the better team that night. The players were somewhat awed by playing in front of 22,000 screaming fans. Massillon scored twice in the first half for a 14-0 lead. Warren came back with two methodical drives to tie the game 14-14. We were told to be on the bus when the time got down to 4:00 minutes left. The clock ticked down as Massillon was driving downfield with Joe Sparma at QB but kept going back to 4:00. Finally it went down to 2:00 and we felt that our principal, Milton “Molly” Mollenkopf meant business and we better get on that bus! It seems we sat there for 10 minutes. All of a sudden we heard a tremendous roar and ran off the bus to see what it was all about. The Massillon policemen told us to get back on the bus. I caught a glimpse of the scoreboard and saw the score 14-20 in Massillon’s favor. It was like someone had kicked me in the stomach! A few moments later, some over-exuberant Tiger fans were rocking our bus and screaming, “You’re not #1 anymore!!” To say the least, it was a long ride home. I truly believe the writers would have kept Warren Harding #1 if the game had ended in regulation 14-14. They understood Harding’s great comeback and the adverse conditions they played in. Back then Tiger Stadium was just so overwhelming to high school kids.
