The best thing about Wadsworth is that it's not Barberton.

Yeah, a real bastion of culture just north of the Rittman/ Doyelstown/ Barberton corridor. :smartass:

Does not look good for the future as Wadsworth was totaly dominating the Tiger freshman. This could be a long season for the freshman. We had 37 players and they had 36 and they were bigger and faster than the Tigers. GO TIGERS

This is not good !!!
How could we only have 37 players ????
How did we EVER field 3 freshman teams in the late 70's/early 80's ??
That is surprising. Too many options for kids now-a-days. Football was looked at as fun back then.
Now, it's more like work !!:doh2:

Very disappointing. We lost players to ineligiblity and it seems as though it will really impact the Freshmen team's chances of sucess. Saddly, one of the ineligible players could develop into one of the best linemen that we have had a Massillon in a long time. Having a kid like this miss a year due to grades is a real shame. But hey, ya gotta make the grade!

Actually, that is not the problem so much as it is kids staying ellible, aka, their grades:mad: My son has told me that there were quite a few kids that are or would be freshmen this year that couldn't play this year because of their grades from last year.
The same goes with his grade (8th). There were about 5 kids that got kicked off of the team this season already because of missed practices (non excused), breaking rules, things like that. Plus another 4 or 5 who were inelligible to play this season because of their grades from last year as well. A few of them have the potential to be/are very good athletes.
But in spite of that, they still have 2 teams per grade. And so far, the 2 8th grade teams are looking pretty good.

Why is it so hard for today's youth to be convinced that EDUCATION is why you go to school ???? Where is the help/tutoring that these kids need??:afro:

The tutoring is available, but as far as I know, you can't force them to take it. I am hoping that Stacy and his program is able to work on getting through to more of these kids. I know that the coaches at the MS stress the importance of the kids' grades all of the time. But at the same time, they strictly enforce the rules. If a kid has such a bad attitude or big head about their own athleticism, then that kid isn't going to make a good team member anyhow. It is a shame, but you just can't get through to some kids until they have to learn the hard way.
Hopefully, if they want to play football badly enough, they will work on their grades this year so they are elligible next year. It's not like you have to be a genius or anything, you just have to get a passing grade!

Wadsworth had a 2-1 edge in time of possession and used an 80-yard touchdown run by #25 and then a 53 yard-punt return to seize an early 14-0 lead in the opening quarter.
The Tigers got as close as 14-7 on Bo Grunder's 8-yard touchdown on a well executed reverse from quarterback Robert Partridge on an 11-play, 68-yard drive that took four-and-a-half minutes off to close the quarter. Two touchdowns by the Grizzlies in a span of 2:23 seconds late in the second quarter proved to be decisive (a short run TD followed with a touchdown pass) as they led 28-6, which proved to be the final score.
Wadsworth finished with 361 yards rushing to the Tigers 47. Massillon had 142 yards through the air passing while the Grizzlies finished with 63 yards passing.
Wadsworth however had the edge in total yards 409-167 and had 12 first downs to Massillon's 9.
Despite the loss, head coach Tim Menches remains optimistic about his freshman team and believes they can rebound from this early setback.

I hear from my friends in Wadsworth that the freshman class could be one of the best classes they have ever had. That's like saying Jackson is going to go 9-1 in the Federal League and make the playoffs, only to lose in the first round.
On another note, does this mean Coach Stacy is going to get fired in 4 years because of his "deteriorating coaching skills"?

It means somebody better find a way to light a fire under some of these 9th graders behinds this year!

The freshman seem really small. Somebody needs to feed them more.
Wadsworths freshman were huge!

That person would be Coach Stacy.

Benchboss1,
That coach would be freshman head coach Tim Menches. Trust me, Menches knows what he is doing. I have seen him light fires in the freshman team and he knows how to get them to play their best ball. He knows how to press the right buttons and I personally have seen that for myself.
He doesn't yell at them nor does he raise his voice. He tells them what they are doing right and what they can do better to be successful in the program. He also wears his emotions on his sleeve too.

I'm assuming they also have study tables and such at the Middle School level. It's disturbing there are so many freshman players with eligibility issues but as you said you can't force them to study more. You would think possible playing varsity ball for the Tigers would be enough motivation. Sadly, for many kids today, it isn't.
