Like I said numerous times but of course other people "assume" they know a lot more, Jack's son is not enrolled at Massillon and he is leaning towards staying at GlenOak "if" Garcia gets the job. If Garcia doesn't get it then it is down to Hoover or Lake due to all of his friends and relationships that he has at both schools. They live in North Canton and their house is about 2 miles from the Lake School District border and there is a concern for him to drive to Massillon everyday b/c it is a considerable long drive especially for a high school kid. The article is in the canton rep. I would have to say that Massillon is 3rd on his list with Hoover being 1 and Lake being 2.

If you're going to cite the Rep article to buttress your point, you can't selectively ignore the parts that don't fit:
- Lake isn't open enrollment - how would Matt be able to enroll?
- The Rep article (http://cantonrep.com/index.php?Category=17&ID=346992&r=12&subCategoryID=) also said that Rose would transfer "to a school in which his father gets a coaching job." Would either Hoover or Lake hire Jack?

You might also note the timing: "If Rose does transfer ... it won't be until after the school year." If father and son are a package deal (as the article says), then they run the risk of overplaying their hand. I would advise any of these programs to fill their staffs without waiting until summer to see if Jack is available and willing. He may well end up without a coaching gig if he waits too long.

you are correct Lake isn't open enrollment that's why Hoover would be his top choice. There are 2 openings on Lake's staff and 1 opening on Hoover's staff. Jack is very close with both Durbin and Hertler plus I don't see Jack taking a paid position as he has stated that he would be happy to volunteer coach if he was given the opportunity. I think Jack is burned out and another full season of 12-15 hrs day would really do him in, i mean i think he's around 60 years old. IMO he will stay at GlenOak. There is one very important factor to all of this and that is Matt's mother, who does not want him to be a Tiger. We will see after GlenOak hires their coach by thursday.

Is that you, Matt?

I'll say this, though: some aspects of this whole affair are a little unsettling. First, you have the reports that Matt is more likely to stay at GlenOak if Garcia gets the coaching job -- the clear implication being that he will leave if Garcia doesn't get the job. Then, you have the announcement that if another school wants the son, they need to take the father, too.

Excuse me for asking the obvious question, but what the hell makes some unproven high school kid think he has that kind of leverage? What kind of self-respecting program would ever bow to that kind of blackmail? If Matt wants to come to Massillon, great. We'd love to have a hard-working kid who will bust his ass to uphold our tradition. If he's more concerned with getting his, he'd be better off getting it at another school.

Jack would be a great addition to our coaching staff, and Matt would be more than welcome on our team, but a solid program is much bigger than any one player or coach. GlenOak should hire the best man for the job. If they judge it's Pallente, and if that means losing Matt, so be it. If Garcia gets the job, Massillon should fill that coaching vacancy without waiting to see if Jack to decide if he's interested. If we don't have an opening on the staff, we don't need to create one just to buy the services of father and son.

I don't doubt that this is not an easy decision for the family, but neither is it a situation in which they dictate the terms. If they think they will call the shots at Massillon, then I hope they are both elsewhere next fall.

Gee I thought Gracia got the job!

He was seen last Sunday at Kohls buy green shirts.
( actually had had Black ones and as he headed towards the register to pay he seen the same styles in Green and he returned all the black ones for Green ones ). Maybe I am reading too much into it.

I do have to say that I was looking forward to them coming to Massillon but now with this SHOPPING AROUND I am changing my mind.

Great post and I agree 100%. Matt has been injured for almost a year with a bad shoulder so no he hasn't proven anything but he is a very hard worker and a great kid. And no I am not Matt, I am just a friend of the family who wants this whole situation to end asap!

I totally agree with your statement OW and I am glad some of us feel this way. Does anyone have any real insight on his ability to play. Reports say he is good and works hard but does anyone have film? All this talk and visiting schools and no 1st hand knowledge of football abilities. I hope this is done real soon a tiger or not. It seems like he is searching for a "me first school or situation"--- he might not start as a tiger next season with the talent we have right now.

Re-read the article. That is Todd Porter talking, not Jack Rose. Another example of sticking his nose where it aint welcome. I will take JR at his word, and he says given his resignation & situation at Glenoak, he wants his son to decide what HE wants before the family makes any decisions. And only then decide what his future coaching plans will be. He seems to have gone to great lengths to distance himself or his son as bargaining chips or a package deal, which is the right thing to do. TP is nothing but trouble, and a careless thoughtless idiot.

Well, you know what, Matt's mother may not want to see him be a Tiger but there are a lot of Massillon people that don't want to see father OR son become Tigers. They never thought of enough of Massillon to move here when he was the head coach so let both of them go somewhere else. We really can get along without them---believe it or not.

Why point your finger at the son?
I don't think when his dad was here, he had much of a choice where he would live.

I do know that boy always wanted to be a Tiger.

Guys, I have to tell you this stuff is REALLY starting to get old. Look, it's not like we're talking about freaking Brian Urlacher coming here to play linebacker. We're talking about a freaking kid who played at GlenOak that MAY be a good football player at this level. And as far as the dad as coach, WHATEVER. If he comes, OK. If not, there are OTHER coaches just as qualified. Why do you guys get in such an uproar over such petty BS?

If he comes, it will be after the school year. He doesn't need to transfer now, because Jack already received a "release" as part of his resignation.

Mr. Carle, apparently you have been away too long.

Little Massillonians obsess with minutia in order to avoid the anxieties of seeing the larger world.
