Seems like De La Hoya and Mayweather are trading words before their May 5th title fight for De La Hoya's WBC Super Welterweight Title......

These two just don't like each other. Quick and fast averages point towards Mayweather as he just might have a secret weapon in his corner for this mega-million dollar showdown.

I will put my money on Maywheather but Oscar is a gamer and will be ready! I am getting pumped for this fight and it should be similar to Hearns/Leanard.

monte81,

Mayweather is too fast for De La Hoya. The only way De La Hoya wins is if he can force Mayweather into the ropes. Otherwise, it will be an outside fight and Mayweather will walk away with the WBC Super Welterweight championship and with it, his fourth world championship!

This fight definitely has a lot of allure. De La Hoya has the height advantage and is trying to bolster his legacy. Mayweather has very quick hands.

From Fox Sports:
"Both De La Hoya and Mayweather are part of an exclusive fraternity. They are, chronologically, the seventh and eighth fighters in the history of the sport to capture real/lineal world titles in three separate weight classes. The only other fighter to accomplish the feat in the last thirty-plus years is Sugar Ray Leonard. This is the first time two men in this exclusive fraternity have faced off since Henry Armstrong earned his third crown by defeating triple-crown winner, and then welter king, Barney Ross in 1938."

Don't know what fight the one judge was watching, but,................if the third judge would have given the 12th round to Oscar, this fight would have been a draw !!! WOW !!

Oscar looked slow and old !!! But,........he'll make around $35 million for his efforts !!!

There always seems to be one judge who's oblivious to the actions in the ring.

FOR REAL! Floyd jr. hit on 58% of his punches and doubled Oscar's total connects and Oscar was a low 27% in punches landed. The judge that ruled in favor of Oscar was definitely drunk or on the take. However it was a good fight and FLoyd jr. is just to fast for any of those guys.

Keno--BTW that was Floyd jr's 5th World Championship at a differant division and his 10th title overall!!

Who's next? Floyd jr. says he's retired but everyone knows with Mosley talking trash and Judah and Cotto fighting next month the money will be to much to turn down. Judah hopes for a rematch but he must get past a tough Cotto to be considered and is undeated. I would love to see Winky Wright and Floyd but you never know--- B. Hopkins and Winky fight in a few months as well.

On another note---- Why did all these boxers wait until Hopkins turned 42 years old before any of them would fight him. Now his matches are a toss up but 8 years ago he couldn't pay fighters to fight him. He held the title for 10+ yearsand none of them would step up but Trinidad! Amazing how fighters say they will take on all comers but duck the real champion until he is over the hill.

The knucklehead that gave the dang fight to De La Hoya was obviously at the bar before the fight started. You have to be KIDDING me. This was nothing but a set-up for Fight II. And Floyd, Jr. BETTER do whatever it takes to get his whacked old man back in his corner. Although he won, and handily in my opinion he was definitely not invincible and perhaps even suspect at times. Although, I haven't heard the expert analysis of the Great Keno yet!!

I agree with having his father in the camp. Floyd makes fighter miss but he just does not let his hands go enough for me. He could of finished Oscar and many other fights if he just let his ahnds go. He proved he could take shots in the Corrales and Judah fights early and has crazy conditioning--he looked like he could of went 12 more rounds.

Did any of you watch 24/7 on HBO that followed both fighters in camp before the fight? That show was bananas! FLoyd bets 35 grand on NBA playoffs and Oscar is all business running Golden Boy Promotions days before the fight. The show was really unique footage of both fighters everday.

monte81,

That was Mayweather's fifth class he has won a world title. He has possessed the WBC Super Lightweight, WBC lightweight, IBF Welterweight and WBC Welterweight, and now the WBC Super Welterweight championship!

I believe Mayweather won the fight as it was in the script. I don't believe De La Hoya landed anything significant to win the last round...at least in the eyes of judge Jerry Roth (who gave the 12th round to FJM)!

CarlE,

I don't believe FJM was suspect at times. He did get hurt I think in one round but it wasn't anything serious. De La Hoya missed him on a more frequent basis than he landed and that is why Mayweather walked away with another world title. And the fact that De La Hoya even tended to miss when the elusive Mayweather was on the ropes didn't help his cause!

Right on CarlE. This was first of three fights, in my opinion. With boxing losing popularity and these two boxers being very good especially Mayweather. I expect De La Hoya to win the next fight and then the "rubber match" to determine the real Champion. Of course, it should be Mayweather. The powers to be in boxing will milk this match-up for as long as they can. It's all about the money:pimp:

massillon catholic,

A great championed poster in cool, heartfelt, royal, intense, sensational, tradition.

I found out that FJM decided to say he will retire. Whether he will stay by that remains to be seen. But I don't think De La Hoya could beat Mayweather in a second fight if it were to happen. Mayweather is just too elusive!

I don't see Oscar beating Floyd jr. EVER unless its a scam. I do not want to see them fight again to see the same technical beat down.207-122 offical punch stats amd Floyd throw half as many punches. Oscar cannot get off and sometimes looked old in the ring punching at the air although it was with combinations inside.LOL!! Although he is boxings cover boy and brings in the cash for opponents. Boxing is fading in the world because all the would be boxers are rapping, playing football, basketball etc,... easier not to get Parkinsons and be broke from shady promoters!! Tickets were $10 grand and most fans want a rematch because they are loyal to Oscar and blindly think he won the fight so a rematch will happen.

Rumor has it Keno was seen talking to De La Hoya's girlfriend after the bout. He was saying, "¡Perder el cero, conseguir con un héroe!" (Lose the zero, get with a hero!"

ESPN has compiled an all-time top 50 list of boxers. Mayweather comes in at #48. De La Hoya at #39.
