If I might answer---some people just plain do not think hard enough.

If it's really 2008 your asking about:ohplease:
But I suspect it's 07..you can add Hildreth at Safety, Grif Erlitz at D-Line, and
Kenny Pettis at OLB..and most likely MR at ILB
CarlE
04-04-2007, 03:05 PM
And we can probably add some guy named Torrence too at linebacker, right? I mean that's all we've talked about for two weeks.

Yoder, Wachell, and Erlitz on the interior, DT, MR, Pettis, and Irvin at linebackers, Massey, Hildreth, Combs, and JT at DB's!! We are stacked on defense! If the oline performs we are going to be a powerhouse!
That's some possibilities and that's if someone doesnot get a spot taken in summer camps!!! Alot of people will be pushing them!!
Bo Grunger(sp) a freshman WR/DB last season I think? He might surprise some people and get a varsity letter!

Also throw Cooper Ivan and Cody Nickels into the mix on this loaded defense.

I forgot about those 2 guys and I really like both players hearts!!
Can anyone say-----RELOADED!!!!!
I hope teams will test K. Massey because he wil ready and battle tested at corner! I think we are going to be explosive on both sides of the ball!!
OLINE----- I hope you are nasty and hungry because we go as far as you can move bodies!!!!
All the way in 2007!! GO TIGERS!

I felt the O line was the main problem last year. I agree that the O line must produce this year and if they do we have a great opportunity to get were we want to go. Slider, out!!!

I see a senior laden class on the o line this year much like we had two years ago, which is a big benefit. I'm fairly confident that Mr. Seidler and Reggie will take care of business up front. They may have the best backfield we have seen in years so im expecting a big year running the ball.

I'm interested to see how badly Wachtel wants it and I'm wondering if his work-ethic in the weight room is showing he wants to start?:scratchchin:

WOW!!!! I didn't know a typo could become such a controversy, SORRY, I ment 2007. Back to the topic can someone say who Erlitz is, also who takes over the other DB spot. With DT, MR, Pettis, and Irvin at lineback could this be one of the best LB groups Massillon has ever seen?

Griffin Erlitz is 230ish# lineman who was a soph last year. I dont recall any varsity action though.
And yes, if DT is better than Speilman and Rose transfers and everything breaks right, sure why not? Lol. Actually my favorite lb corps was 91. We've had ALOT of great LB's and great D1 talent so dont get too carried away.

I know it sounds cliche but no position is set for next years defense or offense. There are some people on that list and the supposed offensive list that I have heard have not had the best offseason in the weightroom, in the classroom and with discipline. These all factor on trust and accountability on those players which in my opinion is a huge factor to who plays and who doesn't. You must trust the people you play next to, in front of and behind and others that may be working harder this offseason can gain a higher trust and end up on the field.
I know we speak a lot about talent (And it helps by far) but year in and year out I see teams win state championships that may not have as much talent as others around the state but have great comraderie and trust within each other. I think Hilliard Davidson this year was a great example of that. They were not nearly as talented as many of the D1 teams in the playoffs and they came home with the title. Even St. X last year (although their enrollment was almost three times the amount of boys that we had) did not have as many D1 players on the field as we did. I believe they had one kid go to Boston College where we had 7-8 D1 athletes on the field (A. James/ILL, B. Huffman/Duke, B. Gamble/ILL, A. Dailey/Penn State, E. Saunder's/Florida Atlantic, B Smith/Fairmont St, D. Mcguire/Toledo, A. Scassa/Toledo) and a few more D2 scholarship kids (N. James/IUP, D. Dickerhoof/Ashland and C. Shane/Walsh). I am sure they have a few more D1 and D2 kids that I don't know about (I remember their RB was very good and I believe just a Soph. at the time) but the point I am making again is over the past 34 years I have been watching this game there have been a lot of cases where the team with the best chemistry and work ethic win over the talent.

There will be some AWESOME competition for a starting job this year. Competition is the best thing we could hope for. We need about 20 kids vying for 11 spots on each side of the ball. We should be in a much better position for subs this year also. This will pay HUGE dividends late in the season, as our kids will hopefully be fresher, which avoids injuries.
Let the games begin !!

Did he play JV last year or was he on the freshman team. What about that Adkins kid? Not the QB, but I saw someone on the sidelines last year that wasn't listed on the website (never did get a program, they were always sold out by the time I rolled into town, so I'm sure he was listed there)Anyway, I'm sure his last name was Adkins and his number was in the 70's...What about Grizzard? Is he back this year?

The Adkins qb is looking good in the weight room(6'- 170lbs) class room and is healing nicely from acl replacement...he is deffinatly a contendor for qb...one jv stat i remember from him...didnt throw one interception all year.:tig:

i think that the startin line will be tonio pettis or tyler relford fighting for nose but if tigers run the 44 defense i say they will both get on the line 2gether because tpettis has speed relford has amazing strength

I really believe the juniors on defense will be the leaders of this year's team. Their experience from the last two years will definitely speak for itself.

Oh he'll have competition. And might have to wait his turn a year. DT obviously, but I think you will see Herring & Thornton double some there cuz they are too good to keep off the field for long, maybe Wachtel, Irvin, Vargas, Pettis, and prolly a few sophs I dont even know about yet.

When healthy. I hope he has been working hard on this strength and conditioning to sustain the pounding for 15 games!! We seem to have a solid nucleus brewing this up coming season.

Good analysis. Throw names like Denis Vargas, Jamison Gates, Brian Arelt and JB Price into the mix as well.

longtimefirsttime,
Some of those players are also running backs. Right now, Massillon's depth at RB will be a large asset for them as the season goes on.
They have powerful runners (Thornton, Torrence) and speedy runners (Herring, Turner, Price) and several others to be included.
That can carry the men of LWE greatly.
longtimefirsttime
04-11-2007, 03:24 PM
Keno, only so many people can be a RB. And with the bunch that will be in the backfield this season, it can only benefit the team in other positions. Depth is a good thing.
