Not a huge surprise. A vocal segment of their fans had him behind the eight-ball from day one. And early tournament exits didn't help.

UK is a tough tough place to coach and very few coaches even want to risk there career on the possibility of failing. Tubby Smith made an excellant choice to leave for the gophers because he will rebuild the program and start a new era! it is alot of parity in college sports and programs are not going to dominate every year. Quality coaches are going to get a fair share of talent and with Tubby, Petino, and Calipari along with Pearl competing for great players in the same area--you cant get them all! I wish him luck in Minnesota.
Too bad Frease will not consider Minnesota--he could become a star!!

I'm assuming that if Notre Dame and Xavier are tops on his list, then his grades are pretty solid.
Monte-you are correct about Minnesota. They've done well with quite a few big men like Frease through the years.

I personally think Frease would be better suited the style of play in the Big Ten versus the Sec. If you look at OSU's game against Tennessee last night, consider playing that style of ball the entire year. A 7 footer doesn't really fit in.
Usually when kids decide where to go to school they pick based on the coach as much as the school. I would assume that Smith will still recruit Frease.

I have always had respect for Orlando Tubby Smith since he came to Kentucky in 1998 and peaked in his first season leading the Wildcats to the March Madness championship.
He's always been one of my favorites and I wish him all the best at Minnesota. Maybe he can lead them to a potential Final Four since 1997 (Clem Haskins).

It will be interesting to see what he can do with the Gopher's program.

The Virginia Tech coach gave an excellent interview on Friday's Jim Rome radio show about the Kentucky situation. He said Tubby deserved better from the Wildcat fans.
