First of all...MassillonMom where are you? Posting this was your job, LOL.

This is in TTT because when it comes to competing at contest, our choir kids are indeed TIGERS!

At Districts this past weekend, all FIVE of the groups competing, Advanced, Concert, Freshmen, Women's Chorus and Men's Chorus, scored a "I" (one).
Four of the groups had "perfect I's", which means that all the judges scored them with a "I".

Every group with a "I" advances to state level competition.
We'll be taking all our kids!

In case you didn't know, you are allowed to come and support the kids in the seats, just like at a sporting event. (No T-I-G-E-R-S though, you have to be quiet.)
Believe me, they truly appreciate every single fan that shows up!

In case you've forgotten, or didn't know, our WHS choir program has more state level Superior ratings than any other school in Ohio. Number two is way behind us.

Congratulations and appreciation also go out to Mr. Beery in his first year as Director and Ms. Meinhart in her first year at WHS as Associate Director.

Those kids were outstanding!!! The improvement from the beginning of the year is 10fold ! Especially the men's and women's chorus', but was impressed with how far along all of the choirs have come. It is great that Mr. Biery continues on in the fine tradition and standards following Mr. Veigel's retirement:no1:

Well done to all of the choirs and choruses. It nice to see that they continue the work Mr. Viegel has start and kudos to Mr. Berry and the kids. :no1:

My brother saw the “pre-contest” performance and said they were absolutely wonderful!! What talented kids we have -- and excellent directors.

Congratulations to all of our grrrrreat Tiger singers!!

Now -- on to state!!!!

(Here’s a tale from a “practicing” Tiger -- just thought I would share this!!)

One day I heard a fearful din
Out where the thickest woods begin.

I rushed out there, and on the way
Fell in a hole, and there I lay
While up above me all that noise
Grew worse and worse, as though some boys
Were beating pans and breaking glass,
And they were just about to pass.

I jumped and scrambled up the side
And tried to run away and hide.
But there that Tiger stood and smashed
And beat and howled and roared and crashed.

"Hold up," I yelled, and when he heard,
The racket ceased. He fairly purred.
"My friend," I said, "What made you roar
And make that din I heard before?"

"Oh, that!" he said. "I'm practicing
In case I'm ever asked to sing."

this is great to hear...I also agree with seeker about the fact that nothing is better when you go to those contests and you walk out and the place is packed to listen to THE BEST...again that is what we are when it comes to our Choir program.

As an alumni of both the Choir and Washingtonians, I would like to offer up my congratulations to the Choirs this past weekend. It is great to see the tradition continuing, and being passed down to each class. These guys work HARD and they have an awful lot of pride in their success. Good luck at states.

Yes, Mr. Griest and Ms. Bushman-Villilo are up there smiling together that their legacies live on!!!

We rightfully talk about the great tradition we have in football and the TSB, but the greatest program in MCS is the choir.

The choir unarguably is, and has been, the best in the state....the best in the history of Ohio HS vocal music.

i played baseball and football at WHS, but some of my favorite memories from my HS days are from my experiences in the choir program.

The publisher wrote that editorial.:rockin:

(I called the Inde today and found out.)

It's really cool how he related it to football and then you find out it's really about the choir!

They were absolutely OUTSTANDING today! It made me very proud today to have had a daughter as a 4 yr choir member, including women's chorus and advanced . I definately had a few tears in my eyes during one of the performances realizing that it was the last competition for us on a personal level.

I might add that there are four separate points, one for each song (3) and one for sight reading, that each choir is judged on in calculating the final score. You need at least two 2's and two 1's to receive a final score of 1. The Advanced Choir was the only choir to receive straight ones for in everything:no1:
Afterwards, the judges told Mr. Biery that they wanted to speak to him (he was afraid it would be a reprimand of some kind). They told him that his choirs were the best ones that they have heard all year! How about that for some Massillon Pride?!:sunny:

It's GREAT to see this fine, upstanding tradition continued on in the success that has been Massillon chorus for many, many, many years. Congrats to this group this year maintaining the standard to which Massillon set itself long before Al and I joined the scene. And for me that was EONS ago!!

I certainly hope that our MASSILLON paper will give these wonderful groups the coverage that they deserve. You kids are wonderful, and this is a record that has gone on for years and years. BRAVO, kids. You continue to make us very proud----and doing it at Jackson had to make it a little extra fun. Now----if we can bring up all of our academic programs to this level. . .

I was recently chastised by another poster who said that Kevin Coffey is the "publisher" and not the "editor" therefore doesn't write Editorials. Just glad to know that I am right, again! Great Job, CHOIR:no1:

How “grandioso”!!

I have relatives in the choirs and am so proud of them and each and every choir member.

It is what truly makes us the “City of Champions”!
