He admits betting on his own team. Say it isn't so http://news.yahoo.com/s/wgal/20070314/lo_wgal/11253896

Does it surprise anyone? This guy has changed his story so many times how can he be believed about anything? Pete get used to being on the outside looking in.

i always knew there was a reason for him accepting the ban in the first place...if he were innocent as he kept saying he was, why not defend himself...why accept a lifetime ban from the game you love so much if one is innocent??? deals usually means guilt...

a definate kiss good-bye to the hall of fame...before this there was a glimmer of a possibility...but, no more...

this is probably the first honest move he has made in decades...would have admired him much more if he had stepped up to the plate way back when and admitted his guilt rather than lying all these years...

he squandered any respect he had coming to him...

If he bet the REDS to win, good for him. That means he never "threw" a game. I don't see a problem with this.

But, ...can I still go to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and see OJ's bust ??

If so, THAT's a tragedy !! :puke:

Betting on baseball is one of the biggest "sins" a baseball manager or player could make. And Pete has changed his story so often how do we know he didn't bet against his team? If he does get in, I don't expect it for many years. He may forever be linked with names like the Black Sox.

And Pete has changed his story so often how do we know he didn't bet against his team?

exactly. pete once told people he never bet on baseball.......and then changed his story once his potentially profitable book was coming out.

I don't think that MLB should be concerned with Pete's W/L %, he should be measured on his BASEBALL STATS ON THE FIELD.

If Pete isn't in the HOF, the HOF is a sham.:treehugger:

Couldn't agree more. I mean Ty Cobb is in the Hall of Fame. Do some research on some of the things HE did while playing baseball.

If Pete bet AGAINST his team, or had his team "lay down" for a game, tehn ban him.

But EVERYONE who's what a competitor he is/was, and knows he ALWAYS bet his team to win !!!!

Some claim Rose did not bet his team every night. He did not bet when some pitchers were scheduled to start.
"When Rose didn't bet on his own team, Dowd said, "It was a signal to the bookmakers that the Reds were going to lose. It was a huge signal to them."
