View Full Version : Ohio State gets screwed !!!

I know it's just a prestige thing, but how in the world did Ohio State NOT get #1 overall seed?

On top of it, how the heck did they end up 3rd!

Let's see, Ohio State:

#1 in coaches poll
#1 in AP poll
#1 in RPI
Won the Big 10 regular season
Won the Big 10 tournament

In winning the Big 10 tourney, they beat the #4 RPI team, and #3 ranked team, not some bunny.

Who did FL beat in the tourney? #35 or so Arkansas. Who did NC beat in the tourney? #83 North Carolina State.

Why does the NCAA even have polls, or better yet, even ever reference the RPI? Obviously it has no meaning to the committee at all.

I seriously doubt the committee does any analysis at all. They probably sit around the table with pizza and beer and ask each other as they get drunk "Who do you like?". The computers we see on the table are the ones you see at open houses when buying a house - in other words, they are made out of cardboard and are there for looks only.

What is so hypocritical is in football EVERYTHING revolves around the BCS and the ranking. Then when basketball comes, they claim they use the RPI (which admittedly isn't perfect, but either is the BCS) which is the only real tool to compare schedules and results and they totally disregard it.

Of course we are BUCKEYES fans, but........... of any team's seeding in the tourney, they certainly gotted screwed the hardest. #1 in every conceivable ranking, but end up ranked as the 3rd ranked team for the tournament.

And the head of the committee is from Princeton? And I thought Ivy League guys were smart...

The 2 teams that got the #1 seeds ahead of the Buckeyes...Did Ohio St beat either of those 2 teams this season?

One could argue that Florida dominated Ohio State in their regular season match-up.

From Fox Sports:
"Other than two victories over Wisconsin (at home and in Sunday's Big Ten final), Ohio State's best wins have come on the road against a pair of Bubble teams from the Big Ten — Michigan State and Illinois."

They also lost to other number one seeds North Carolina and Florida. They're still a number one seed. If they're upset then take it out on their opponents. They have the talent to win it all. Then it will be undisputed.

So why is OHIO STATE the number one ranked team in the NATION ??

They won 2 games against OOC opponents that made the dance. Why do they keep voting them # 1 then ?? If they're only 3rd best, rank them 3rd.

Florida lost 3 outta 5 entering their tourney. Kansas lost to ORAL ROBERTS, and shouldn't be a #1 seed.

North Carolina lost to Va Tech TWICE , and got beat by Gonzaga AT HOME,

OH ST lost AT NC early WITHOUT Oden, and got slammed AT Florida, where they managed to shoot 36 %, with Oden playing short minutes and taking only 6 shots.

So are they #1 or not ?????

That isn't the OHIO STATE team that is now playing. Oden is now healthy, and I imagine has made a BIG difference.

The tourney is also played on a NEUTRAL COURT.

Va Tech beat NC TWICE during the season, and got a 5. Now according to " some people's logic" , Va Tech should be a #1.

According to the selection committee, they're the third best #1 seed. I don't have a problem with that. OSU was split in the polls for part of the season. Who would you have ranked as the number one seeds (other than Florida, North Carolina and Kansas)?

Maybe you could turn this around and look at it as a GOOD thing. Afterall, the Buckeyes were ranked as #1 in football and you know what happened there:stars:

Why does it matter?

Why does it matter?

It matters only if you think the Bucks can't beat Memphis or Texas A&M. Looking at their region(top to bottom) I'd say it's the EASIEST bracket. So why complain?

It's irrelevant in college basketball. They actually play the games on the court to determine the winner and ultimate champion. I really don't care who was the overall #1 seed. We have the easiest dang bracket. Now, it's up to them to just win, baby WIN!!!

Florida #1 in Mid West Bracket
Ohio State #1 in South Bracket

Did the committee members take geography in school? :glare:

Florida beat OSU handily, but ask yourself if Florida could beat OSU @ Value City, w/ Oden playing, and w/out Noah. OSU deserved the #1 seed based on both polls, the rpi, and impressive Big Ten title win over another top 5 team to close it out.

The #1 seed is "supposed" to have the easiest path, but as already hosted, maybe we do anyhow. We'll see. Let Florida wear that bullseye and use this as motivation. Go Bucks!!!

You all know me as a huge Ohio State homer.

When Florida turned it on in the SEC tournament, they were scary. I do not want to play them again. They are the only team I fear. They are the #1 overall.

We can gripe about being the third #1 seed, but who cares. We've got one of the easier draws in the tournament with a suspect Memphis as the 2 seed and Texas A&M as the 3. It's better than having Georgetown in our bracket. The tournament is all about matchups. It's time to lace 'em up and get after it. There are 62 other teams who would trade places with us in a hearbeat.

At least it isn't the BCS. The committee might be stupid, but at least you can get in by winning the conference tourney.

They arent #1 when you go and make excuses for every loss they have, they lost to 2 other #1 seeds why should they be ranked ahead of them, actually does it really make a difference. I will give it a couple more weeks until we hear another excuse...

OH ST is currently number one, and didn't they beat the number 2 team in the country twice last week ?? That's gotta be good for something.

A lot of good teams in the tourney. My final has North Carolina vs Florida for all the marbles,.............but you know how the #1 seed thing usually works out !!

Make sure to take at least TWO, 12/ 5 upsets in your brackets. I love Arkansas to win as a 12.

It was good enough to get them a #1 seed and the easiest road to HOTlanta, what more do you want?
All of this OSU gripe and you put NC and FL in the final? :poke:

rankings mean jack... if tOSU got a #2 seed. then be pissed.

although i must say...i am puzzled as to why tOSU didn't get the #1 overall sead. i realize florida & UNC beat tOSU EARLY in the season. but...how many losses does UNC & florida have?

i thought the WHOLE body of work was considered when ranking and placing these team....

You basically say OSU shouldn't be #1 because Florida and UNC beat them. Va Tech beat UNC not once, but twice. Shouldn't they be seeded ahead of UNC then?

No they shouldnt because VA Tech couldnt beat Western Michigan, Marshall, G.Wash among other lower ranked teams on their schedule.

Who did OSU beat non-conference that was worth a ....

I have to agree with Dawgh8r. If OSU is not #1, that is fine, but why have they been ranked there so long.

Did these teams make the big dance?
Virginia Military
Loyola (IL)
Kent St
Eastern Kentucky
San Francisco
Youngstown St.
Valparaiso
Cleveland St
Cincinnati
Iowa St
Coppin St.

This is 11 of OSU's first 13 opponents, the other 2,,,Florida and UNC (loss and loss) considering the Big 10 was an absolute joke as a basketball conference this year I would say the Buckeyes should feel lucky they got a #1 seed.

Because they had an easy schedule and didnt lose late in the season, 1 quality non-conference win against Tennessee and 3 wins against Wisconsin and that is it.

austinsm11
03-12-2007, 09:19 PM
I am not debating that other teams didn't have tougher schedules but perhaps you should look at Florida's first 13 games. How many of them are in the tournament?

Where they deserve to be ranked, and who is the best are 2 different things !! You know that the POLLS are always tainted, but ............. that is THEIR formula, so it should have some say-so in the seeding. I'm a realist, and bet a TON of baskets, believe me, .......I know who the "better" teams are !!

I think OH ST could make the final four, barring a stumble against A & M.

It's always interesting, of which teams can "impose their will" on the other teams. The Big 10 is definately not the most exciting brand of hoops around ! The teams that can get out and run, usually do pretty well.

Good luck in your brackets !!

I would not take OSU's bracket lightly as some have mentioned. Memphis is a great coached team on a 20 game winning streak. Remember there last 2 recruiting classes were ranked in the top 5 in the nation. They are a tough team and may win the region!!!
