Does anyone know whats going on with Fox Entertainment Center? Formally known as Foxboro Roll-A-Rena. Everytime I have been by there there are no cars and its looking pretty run down and overgrown. Is it For Sale or something? Whats the story?

The last owner of the rink closed it down because the rent was getting outrageous. No current plans for a new tenant.

We used to go skating there all the time. I can't believe that it is just going to waste.

My daughter got assaulted there, and ended up with permanent scar damage to her face. That was late in '05. I think they closed shortly after that. That place was a GOLD MINE in the 80's.
If the rent was getting too high, why didn't they try to work something out ?? How much rent is the landlord collecting while it's empty ?? :scratchchin: :heee:

A new floor was installed when it was transfered over to the new management. Nice place. I think if they would have kept Randy (former rink manager) your daughter would not have been assualted and the place would still be running well and still be fun.
I thought Sluggers & Putters bought it?
How much do you think something like that would cost to buy?
It was doing well in the 80's because it wasnt overrun by kids who's parents thought it was a babysitting service. They should have had somenights set aside for adults only skate.

I didn't know Jackson had a downtown. Is the roller rink still up my the old Jackson high school. They proably shut it down. We were the first the graduate at the new high school which they are going in now i think. I wonder in they ever added the swimming pool to the school.

I think Al may have been making a tongue in cheek comment. The roller rink MTigers006 inquired about is probably the one you're thinking about. I went to the former Skatery several times years ago. As someone else mentioned, the rental rates are reportedly high in that plaza. That's why it has so many empty spaces.

I thought the rink was independently owned. The last owners was Sluggers & Putters. Perhaps the County Auditors website can verify this? I would imagine the insurance is pretty high also. Me and my cousins used to go there alot and we used to go there alot in the 80's when it was called The Skatery. Miss that place. Wish someone would open it back up. If only I had the money. Perhaps someone could form a partnership and open it if they find it profitable.

Wow- The Skatery. Now THERE'S a blast from the past. We used to go there all the time when it was still called that.
After it was Fox, I never let my kids go much. Too many kids starting fights and stuff, and too many kids coming out there from downtown Canton and causing problems.
As far as that plaza next to Fox, the rental rates MUST be pretty high. They never can seem to keep much in there for a long period of time, except for Rite Aid, Corky's and The Polar Bear Den.

PurpleArmy, the starting fights was caused by the kids parents didnt or dont care about and used the staff of Fox Entertainment as babysitters. They just dump em off and go do thier thing not caring what thier kids was doing or if they was starting a problem. Foxboro had an excellent manager named Randy and his staff. They also wasnt scared to throw both parties in a fight out for a 6month suspension. Perhaps if Fox had security. Like I mentioned before Randy made a comment to me that insurrence for a place like that doesnt come cheap. Id like to see someone take it over. But being in a prime retail area demolition wouldn't surprise me. the building and the lot it sits on is quite large. My hopes are to see it reopen. And no I dont plan on getting part of the floor and other keepsakes. lol (just a joke for laughs).

as you can see the lot of land the building sits on and between the DQ and main shopping center. Wouldn't surprise me if it ended being another Wal-Mart someday. lol. What I would do if I had the money is buy out the DQ then expand the current building then add a bowling center with DQ inside. What about you guys? Maybe the trusteees already have plans? Keep us posted if anyone hears anything.
You dont think they would have any problems with kids being the police station is right across the street.

The police station is now on the corner of Fulton and Wales. It's no longer in the Jackson Twp. Administration building across from Fox. Also, the current police dept. doesn't have officers waiting inside. They are on call via a phone service in the police building.

Actually you'd be surprised how many of them may be in the building at any one time.

Except when three or four cruisers show-up at the scene to charge you with a minor, minor traffic violation, or if you are concealing Krispy Kreme donuts in your automobile.

Actually you'd be surprised how many of them may be in the building at any one time. Given it is the Jackson police depo, they probably are not looking out of the window, or having the window blinds open for that matter....:eyemouth:
