There was a big white boy who played basketball in the 70's. He was pretty darn good. He had a last name that began with a W I believe. Anyone remember? Help please. Thank you!

6'-8" Brian Westover. Brian, in addition to being a dominating center, could hit the long shot, although it only counted for two at that time.

After playing for Massillon, Brian went to a college that dropped basketball and he ended up transferring to Akron. In 1972 the Zips advanced to the Division 2 national tournament and upset top-seeded Tennessee State when Westover drove the lane and laid in the winning basket in overtime as time expired. Unfortunately, Akron lost to Roanoke in the finals the following night.

Massillon had 3 guys that was around 7 ft. in the early 70's Jeff Poth. Can't remember the other 2 names. When did Kevin Westover play for the Tigers. Any body remember Columbus Danzy Joey Ford Tommy Grizzard .

Randy Rankl was one of the other big guys. I believe he played with Jeff Poth.

I remember a big guy named Billy Reese from back then. I'm not sure he was 7', but he was at least 6'8" or so. He wasn't a very good player, but for a high school team , he was imposing. There was also Ramon Fransisco, who wasn't as big, maybe 6'5", who was a pretty good player in the 70's.

Your right i forgot Duane Ewing. I went to the basketball games from 1967 to 1978 and trying to remember some of the guys names.

Duane was hands down the better of the 3, Rankl, Poth and Ewing. Jeff was stronger but with limited mobility. Randy picked the game up late and didn't have the best fundamentals.

Westover was the best of the big men mentioned here. How about Larry Arrington. He was great...and pretty tall. Anybody remember Christ Gulias.

TC, I believe Jim Gibson? blonde hair about 6'7" was the center on that team w/ Francisco in mid-70's.

I remember him mostly because as a little kid my dad took me to Whittier & one day he was there and put me on his shoulders so I could make a basket!

Of course I remember The Ghoul!! Great guy, with limited basketball ability. Just never seemed to be aggressive enough. I run into him every other year or so with the Vellios' when I'm in town.

Anyone remember Bob Zehnder? this guy would sit all day long in a corner and nail long shots.....it's a shame they didn't have the 3 point line then, he would have the record. I remember being a kid in amazement as he would score 25-30 a game and mostly all long shots....if those were 3's, he would be in 40's lots of nights.
