He thinks so:

This is a little misleading. The "He" LTFT refers to is the sportswriter, not Tiger himself. I was wondering what was going on. I had read that article yesterday.

The richest, maybe. The best at his sport, possibly.

The best ever at any sport? Gotta get by a couple of guys named Ruth and Jordan first.

DpDad-Those were the names I thought of as well. Possibly Lance Armstrong as well (but he will always be debated as possibly "dirty"). However when Tiger retires, it's very possibly he will be.

CarlE-I have to get you to click those worthless links, now don't I?

Hey smart guy I had already read that article. I didn't NEED to click on your link pal!!

Ric Flair- He won 47 individual world championships and 14 world team championships as a member of the greatest team of all time; the legendary "Four Horseman". The "Horseman" winning their 14th title was IMO the greatest sporting event in the history of the world.

At least he's got 3 HOT looking daughters and a gazillion Championships!

I'd argue that Lou Gehrig was a better baseball player than Babe Ruth. Has anyone besides Bo Jackson played in both MLB and NFL all-star games?

Tiger is on pace to break the golf records of Jack Nicklaus... but he hasn't done it YET.

BTW... do we consider golfers, bowlers, race-car-drivers, to be "ATHLETES"??

OK: Let's put Tiger Woods in the octagon with Chuck "The Iceman" Lidell, for three 5-minutes rounds.....

Tiger won't be considered the greatest until he hits a drive over the barn on #12 at Lyons Den like I did when I was playing with LTFT and Smitty. Until I see that, Tiger takes a back seat to yours truly. Right, LTFT??? Right Smitty?????

To say that Tiger Woods is the best individual athlete ever I think for all intents and purposes is arguable. Let's not forget there are other individuals out there who are just as dominant...maybe not as dominant as Woods but they all have held their own.

Here are some names I can conjure up: Walter Ray Williams Jr., 41-time bowling champion, Michael Jordan, 6-time NBA champion, Lance Armstrong, 7-time Tour De France champion, Dale Earnhardt, 7-time NASCAR champion (I'm not even going to say Nextel Cup...don't ask why), Bernard Hopkins (20 middleweight title defenses).

I could go on and on but let's look at the accomplishments of others before we come to solid leads as if Woods is the best individual athlete.

At least he doesn't do dope like those sprinters and Floyd Landis!

I think Tiger may need to fight it out to be the greatest golfer ever, let alone athlete. Obviously, names listed above in this thread need to be considered- don't know if anyone tops Jim Thorpe.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Kyle Rote, Jr., who dominated a couple SuperStars competitions in the 70s. Doesn't that count?:stars:

I think Tiger is the greatest golfer of all time, but not the greatest athlete. If you put him in a "decathalon" competition, like they do in the Olympics, he probably wouldn't dominate like some others I can think of. Jordan, LeBron, Jerry Rice, Derrick Jeter, etc......this would be a long list.

Keno,

Don't overlook the fact that Walter Ray Williams is as good a horseshoe pitcher as he was a bowler. One of the tops in the country. I'm just curious as to how Tiger would do if he had to play golf with the equipment that Palmer and Nicklaus used in their day.

LOL, nobody told me that, but what really happened? Curious minds want to know.

Um, I was actually through the fairway and in the rough with a bad lie. I tried to strong-arm a 7 iron over the lake and it just fell short and went in. DAMN IT!!! However, I dropped, pitched a stiffer over the pond and tapped in for par. Now, Smitty and LTFT can both vouch for this. They were there with me!!!

I golfed with TigerCoach's brother, and he cleared THE BARN by PLENTY !!!

Dude, I cleared the barn and went completely through the fairway. You tell TigerCoach AND his brother to just calm down up there.

Since Smitty is MIA right now (If I know him I would guess he has a thick cigar in one hand and a beverage in the other somewhere near the banks of the Snake River) I am the only remaining witness. CarlE's description is 100% true.

Another athlete worthy of consideration as the greatest of all time is Sidorhu Kobiyashi, the Jap who can eat 50+ hot dogs at one time. It's disappointing the US can't beat him, but one must marvel at his talent.
