Well, ya gotta give it up for Warren tonight. They played like a team that was on a mission. I just feel bad that it had to end this way for our seniors.

But thanks guys, especially Michael Porrini for all of the excitement and entertainment that you gave us this year! You made us proud on many occasions. Massillon still loves you and wishes great success in the future to all of our Seniors:love:

Massillon just couldn't get the shots to fall. We had good sets, good looks, but just couldn't get the rock to drop. I think we missed every 3 pointer until about 4 minutes left in the game.

We missed 3 pointers, lay-ups, stick backs, FREE THROWS and prayers.

We cut the deficit to single digits in the 4th, but Warren sank B2B 3's to extinguish the flame.

Congrats on a fine season !!

Over 700 views on this thread !! Coulda used more support in the stands !! Don't know why people won't come out for the games !!??!!???????????????

I totally agree about more people coming out for the games, but what can ya do? I want to say, however, to you students out there that were in the student section, especially last week and tonight, I am VERY disappointed in your lack of enthusiasm and support for your fellow classmates:furious:
Warren's student section put you guys to shame! I don't know what it is with you guys, but you act like you are just too cool to cheer for your own freakin' team! But a lot of you sure did like it when your classmates cheered for you football players during the season though, didn't ya? That is really sooooooooo sad that you guys have this attitude:thumbsdown: You guys didn't even join in when the adults or the cheerleaders did T I G..... If it weren't for the fans in the regular stands, there would have been dead silence on Massillon's side.

Hope we have a much more supportive group of students next year who aren't afraid to make a little noise for the home team!

I am all for that the student section was not cheering, but what upset me the most is that some of our players did not shake hands at the end of the game. What happen to "Win or Lose, Massillon Always"? We should show sportsmanship by shaking hands.

I don't see that happening. Then again, we never did have a big student crowd at any of the regular games this year. And the "bleacher bums" have become a thing of the past.

These two guys played their butts off all year,as did all, but these two were carrying a disproportionate amount of the load. Mike is the best we've seen around here for quite some time. He made some plays this year which were hard to believe. Same with Brian, playing out of position against superior height, he made some shots that looked impossible.

Great talents both, enjoyed watching you play, your effort and fire.

I don't hold it against you for not shaking hands at the end of the Warren game. Heck, I probably would have done the same thing being it was your last game ever for the Tigers and knowing how you care about being a Tiger, your disappointment is shared.

I agree whole heartedly with most of your statement. These boys are outstanding athletes. More importantly I hope they become outstanding citizens and take their TIGER pride with them to college and beyond. Where I disagree is, regardless of being disappointed or not... You get your butt out there and shake the hand of those other kids. No Excusses. Don't we teach this from day 1? If not we better start. I'm glad to see that one individual learned his lesson and was out there congratulating the opponent.
I'm sorry to tell some of you kids, but life is full of disappointment and if you walk away from it every time it happens, you'll be running from it the rest of your life. So you must learn to deal with it as a team and a person. You have so much to be proud of and thankful for. Don't let it get the best of you.
Congratulations to all of you. It has been a pleasure to to share the ups and downs of another season with you. Never hang your head. You are TIGERS FOREVER! :gotigers:

There were heavy expectations on this year's Massillon team to make a return to the district title game. It wasn't going to be easy after last season's 20-3 season.

Massillon however has a bright future for the 2007-08 season and it looks to be a good one though.

i talk every season about the lack of support our basketball team receives. many of these players are also football players. you can't get enough of them during the fall, but once they take their pads off no one cares. but, then again it's like that every year.

btw, i believe that massillon should be a more prominant basketball program every year. maybe it's time to head in a different direction? just throwing it out there.

I also agree with that. But that idea isn't a popular one among some. Our bball program is somewhat stagnant. If this was football, people wouldn't be quite so complacent about the situation, and everyone knows it.

Kamd50,

Massillon has been to three district title games (winning one in 2003), twice had the district's top seed, and won 18 regular season games...all in the tenure of Massillon commander Matt Creamer.

I still think Massillon is firm and secure under the hands of the 48-year-old father of two sons.

This was a season of high expectations for the Tigers. But they gave it everything they had for 22 games this year. Though they ended up short of a return to the district title game, they have a bright future to look forward to and I can promise you under Commander Creamer and his charges consisting of J.D. Plybon, Charlie Williams, Sean McCartney, and Desmond Carpenter, the Tigers will roar again in 2007-08.

Anyways, speaking of Massillon, props to the Massillon Boys and Girls Club on their win over GlenOak Thursday night at the J. Babe Stearn Center. The team is coached by former GlenOak shooting guard and Mount Union graduate Marcus Marshall and he has them playing on a high level right now.

unhappy with the problems such as free throw shooting which has never been solid here and the kids running the team. and it's not just this season. like i said BEFORE, 1 district title in 11 years in not extraordinary. if this were football we were talking about, you might agree.

the only thing that i have problem with is just that players not shaking hands after the game. talk about classless, and the thing that really bothers me is THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED THIS SCHOOL YEAR. Didn't the same exact thing pretty much occur after the end of the football season? Obviously some of the players didn't learn their lessons, i hope Creamer said something to them about that because obviously they didn't learn from the football season,I can handle the team losing a game, but when you loose and can't even shake hands thats just poor sportsmanship and shows a lack of respect and looks like you have no class, some people better grow up really fast because that stuff won't fly later in their careers

You are so right obie0130 this hasnt just been a problem for this year but at least 7 or 8 years in the last 11. When people start to wake up and realize there should have been at least 3 District Titles then things will change but as many have said before the best job to have is basketball coach at Massillon, getting paid good money and obviously dont ever have to worry about losing your job.

7-8 years? I am 41 and we haven't had a great ft shooting team in my LIFE for that matter. Maybe thats just hs ball for ya.

I also agree we dont need to be belly-aching over this loss. Tough to get too far w/out a center. WGH has some tall players and arent 17-5 by accident. Free throws would certainly have helped but 0-14 from 3 pt range takes us completely out of our game. "S" happens. Still a pretty good season considering.

the only thing that we should be belly aching about is the lack of sportsmanship, like i said before this is the second time this season that we have had athletes not shake hands and walk off the playing surface, the thing is too that this incident involved some of the same athletes that were invovled during the football season, this thing NEEDS to be addressed because obviously it was not addressed after the football season, these actions are totally uncalled for and give Massillon a bad name and also taints the players invovled, this is total lack of sportsmanship and i don't get why everyone is talking about the free throws and stuff, to me the topic of discussion here should be the actions of our student athletes this past year, I am starting to see a pattern that im not very fond of

Tiger #22,

This year was filled with heavy expectations and anything short of a return to the district finals at best to many was considered to be a failure.

Far as Massillon attitude problems on the hardwood...I haven't seen any from anyone wearing 'Massillon' on their jerseys. If they had thoughtless, rash, arrogant, yellow, nasty, egotistical, lewd, loathsome, stupid, heartless, embittered, rude, ruthless, egregious, lurking, languishing attitude problems, they wouldn't be on the Massillon roster, I'd promise you that right now!

And speaking of years, Creamer finished his 11th season at the school.

And speaking of years, Creamer finished his 11th season at the school.

ummm yeah keno im gonna have to go ahead and ask you not to speak on topics that you are obviously ignorant about

mike_da_man13,

Call me ignorant if you want, that is your every right. I've heard worse.

I don't believe in calling out others unless I really feel the need to do it and I'm not going to call you out on your thoughts. You are entitled to those and I respect you for coming forward and such.

Now go finish listening to that song you enjoy so much.........

It is not just basketball, it is all of our sports. I look around the county and every year some other Stark County school produces a state cahmp in one sport or another, in either girls or boys. When was the last time we had a state champ, individual or team, in any sport.

When is the last time Jackson, Perry, Hoover or Glenoak had a state title in any of the big sports? Football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, track, swimming, etc.??? I think the winter weather has done something to some of you people. Matt Creamer is one of the top basketball coaches in the state.

TigerCoach,

After all, he (Creamer) was the 2003 Ohio Division I Coach of the Year when he led Massillon to a 22-4 record and a regional runner-up.

The passion and fire he has brought to Massillon speaks for itself:

-Two #1 seeded teams (1999, 2002)
-Three district finalists (1997, 2003, 2006)
-One district champion (2003)
-First coach in 31 years to win a game over Canton McKinley at Massillon (2002)
-Multiple 10 wins or more seasons

You had a nice post there TC!

Perry has 1 or 2 state champs every year in wrestling. Glenoak won back to back baseball not long ago, Hoover won girls softball and basketball, Lake won softball, Tuslaw has had wrestling champs, Central has had football, Mckinley..footall, basketball, track individual. I just can't believe that a school as so sports minded as we are have not been able to win a state title in anything. It is frustrating.

Based on what?..... 1 District Title in 11 years?

If the Tiger football team won 1 Regional Championship in 11 years how many different head coaches would there have been in those 11 years?

tiger#22 (and send this to Mike if you wish),

You guys can say whatever you want about me as you are entitled to such. At least I'm not going to be the second person to lash back and say something derogatory in retaliation.

The only thing I'll say is this: I don't believe in calling others stupid and ignorant as I have seen other posters from their respective schools do in the past (not so much Massillon) and personally I'm tired of it.

I don't call other posters stupid, ignorant, dumb, or whatever as that does not and will not ever define me. If I was a moderator of a high school forum, my patience would run on thin ice regarding this matter.

I do appreciate your stances though along with Mike's.

I don't think you can count last year or the year before. No one was getting past Mckinley those two years. They had 2 dream teams. So, I would say 1district title in 9 years.
I think we were one big man away from a dsitrict title this year.

Why would I need to "send" this to Mike? He is able to read,,,at any rate he said you were ignorant about the topic of players having attitude problems on the Massillon basketball team over the past 11 years and he is right because there have been ALOT of attitude issues. I dont think you know the facts or have any knowledge about things in the past so that makes you ignorant on this topic.

Why cant we count those 2 title years? They lost 3 games and 2 of those were to Ohio teams, not to mention the Tigers had a 5 point lead in the 3rd quarter of the District Final in 06'.

Tiger #22,

Just remember I don't go around calling you ignorant and will not stoop to that level.

Anyway, back to the Warren Harding-Massillon game. That game was a big reversal of the first game. There will be better days for the Tigers and head coach Matt Creamer.

Credit to the Raiders on their win.

Keno,

I'm not going to rip you for your post again...but Tiger#22 has a point. There WAS conduct by our players that is not acceptable. If you are trying to tell us that there wasn't, you are not telling the story as it was. If you were at the arena and saw it, you could not say otherwise. Were you at the game?

MUCSteelers5xSuperChamp

MTown,

I saw the game. The whole game. I did see a Massillon player whose name I won't involve at the end of the game kick a chair and storm back to the locker room at the end of the game without shaking hands with Warren Harding High School players.

There were several players who also returned to the locker room without shaking hands too.

The players knew going into the season that anything short of a district championship was going to be a disappointment. Last year, they were one game from a district championship. This year, they were two games short. And I suspect they are not happy about it.

MTown

And that's exactly what we are talking about. No matter how disappointed you are with the outcome of the game, you have to show good sportsmanship. That didn't happen, and that's what we are talking about.

MTown,

Ok, I'm starting to see the deal now. I know how much Massillon athletes hate to lose (along with others) but you have to shake hands and credit the other team no matter how much a loss hurts.

If at any time I defended the players actions after the game, I apologize. But believe me when I tell you...I'm just trying to stay in the realm of forum rules which "is for the positive promotion of Massillon Tiger Sports."

Keno - You're way off base on this thread. There is NO excuse for poor sportsmanship - ever.
