I just heard from the highest levels that our plane will be landing in Cincy...to play MOELLER. We wish the Massillion / MVHS match could have taken place...! It appears that I need to stay out of the negotiating / lobbying business....lol!

Anyway....good luck to the Massillion Tigers and the 2007 season. I'll be snooping through the forums come August to follow your season.

Go Tigers, Go Bucks, Go Diablo's!

I'm pulling for Moeller on this one. This is after all, Ohio against the Country's best.

Chuck, I understand your bitterness towards Moeller, but this game goes much deeper than that. It's Ohio vs The Country's best. After all, Ohio touts our football prowess.......Let's provide proof!

Ohio is football, thank God!!!!

Ohio perfected football, NOT California!

MVHS better be ready because Moeller will be better in 2007 and was a solid team this past season with a brutal schedule!! In Cincy teams are real concerned about Moeller in Region 4!!!

I will NEVER root for an out of State team in the Herbie!!! I want Ohio to win every game and show America we are the premiere state for High School Football i n the US!!!

I feel Seeker's frustration on this one. There was no way Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller should have won as convincing as they did last year...48-14. I watched that whole game and I wanted to just put an ax through the television set.

As much as I HATE to say it, I would have to pull for Moeller also. When it comes down to it, this thing is all about representing Ohio vs. the rest of the nation. Dang, I can't believe I just said that, lol!

Well, at least I'm in good company with Orangeblood.

So, you guys would all root for McKinley also?

1. I don't see this as "Ohio against the rest of the US", because we have nothing to prove.

2. Moeller is not a public school, so it doesn't count as an Ohio High School competing.

3. Cincinnati is not in Ohio, it is in Kentucky.

I do believe that the originial intent of having the Herbie was to showcase "Ohio" football teams as the title clearly implies:
Ohio vs. U.S.A Kirk Herbstreit Challenge
http://www.ohiovsusa.com/

So yes, I would have to pull for Mck in this one (only) event.

I root for the bulldogs every week except week 10 because i hate the other FED schools and most importantly--I coached the kids coming up in Canton and even though i am a true tiger i want those kids to succeed also after football!! Plus its sweeter to beat them when they are 9-0

Let's hope OHIO is undefeated in the herbie this year! But with teams that are not good year in and year out like Findley and centerville its set up for Ohio to lose a few games!!!!

I wouldn't root FOR the out of state teams. But it would would hard to also root for McKinley and Moeller.

I truly tried to pull for Mckinley in the 2004 championship game against Colerain. I had myself believing I could do it. Once they kicked off I simply could not.

Hey...your talking to a former Ohio guy! I hope the OHIO teams show their complete dominance too....except for one game! MV vs MOELLER! I have to root for my own kid at least....lol.

I tell him all the time about OHIO football! The great programs, traditions, etc. He's not quite the believer yet...!

I'd be interested in your feedback regarding Glenville. Long Beach has great athletes...best we've ever seen....but they can't stay within a well executed game plan for four quarters! They start freelancing about mid-way through. I think that's probably why we've beaten them 4 straight. That will be an interesting match up.

I want Moeller, and every Ohio team, to beat any out of state team.

IMO, McKinley beating a tough out of state team just proves even more how tough these two rivals are (Massillon and McKinley) compared to the rest of the country.

Massillon/McKinley is the biggest rivalry in high school sports in many peoples' minds. Many out of state people are aware of the rivalry and tradition. If McKinley gets drilled against an out of state team, I think people would begin to doubt both of these storied programs.

Why would McK getting drilled by an out of state opponent make people doubt us as well?

If we beat De La Salle or Charlotte Independence to end their streak or Hoover, would our fans start boasting about how over-rated these schools and their opponents are? That is why I think a loss, mainly a blowout loss, by McKinley to another team would look bad. Just my opinion.

I know that anything can happen in any given year, but you know bragging and doubting would go on over one game.

I definitely want Moeller or any Ohio team to win these challenges.

Not Mckinley though. I respect them for being a great program but I still hope they lose every game they play and become worse than Timken. But I do defend them alot against Fed bashers & outsiders, so...whatever that means.

Glenville has exceptional athletes as well. Ted Ginn Sr. had about 8 players sign DIa scholarships but have not been able to execute in big games against big time Ohio teams. 1 trip to semis so far this decade. They also lack some discipline on the field at times that costs them games. Playmakers is what they have and tremendous team SPEED. Yhat will also be a great game.

Most Massillon fans will not get to see your match up unless its televised on tape delay because your game is in Cincinnati and we will not bypass a tiger matchup for no team. Good luck-- Moeller is tough but from what I researched your an elite program in your own right!

It's so sweet that Ohio can get programs the caliber of Mission Viejo, Long Beach Poly, & Charlotte Independence to come from all over to spend a weekend in the Buckeye State! With that being said, I want ALL Ohio teams to be successful in this event. My alma mater (Warren Harding) hasn't been invited to this great event yet (hopefully that will change soon), but last season they beat two teams (Massillon & St. Eds) that were victorious in the Herbie. Whether your team is playing or not, it's great to see the Ohio teams represent well in this event. Good luck to all Ohio squads that will be participating in the 2007 Herbstreit Challenge!

"He said the opportunity arose when a West Coast high school being courted to play in the series decided it was too expensive and turned down the opportunity to come to Ohio. That’s when PHS came into the picture"

Hopefully, WGH will be in it in 2008 (lots of up & coming talent). For now, I'm just glad that some of Ohio's finest get to represent the state in an event like this. Before I left for the Mooney game in week 4 (the Saturday of the last Herbie), I was glued to the internet getting updates! It was exciting, so hopefully Ohio will continue to be successful in this event.

Not for sure what article your referring to...but if your talking about the one I think you are....it's referring to Oaks Christian. Last year, rumors were swirling around here that their Coach declined to play the Herbie Classic and he did make such a statement. Oaks Christian is the home of Jimmy Clausen (incoming frosh @ ND).

That statement within itself, "being too expensive" would be ridiculous, because the organizers pay 100% expenses for a traveling squad of 75.

Most of the CA schools have little respect for Oaks Christian, because they love to boast in their record, but they refuse to play with teams that have a legitmate shot in beating them. They refused a home / home series with us; And I KNOW they refused the Herbie Classic.

Our coach on the contrary takes his philosophy of "anyone, anywhere, anytime.." almost to the extreme. Our pre-season schedule year in and year out will be Long Beach Poly, Mater Dei, Los Al, De La Salle, Vista, The Seattle WA classic...and the likes. We open GAME 1 of the 2007, 3,000 miles from home with NO fans, aginst Moeller! And we lobbied hard to get you guys! WE MUST BE NUTS or STUPID or BOTH!!!

But the kids & the coaches love the challenge! And the challenge makes for a great, great offseason of training. Even as I type, the way our kids have trained since Jan. 1, I really believe they could strap it up next Friday and be ready to go.

I know our playoff system is different than yours, but we have found that a tough pre-season schedule really prepares our kids for the playoffs. Our kids feel that if they can win the pre-season, then they can win league & the playoffs. I guess that was a long winded way to say, that article wasn't referring to us!

The article lists several reasons why the reported reason given (for not playing in the event) is shaky at best.
