This is a pretty cool story. It's regarding the Portage Lakes Polar Bear Club, who raised money for cancer research by jumping into Portage Lakes yesterday. I cannot imagine even going outside with a short-sleeved shirt right now, much less jumping in a lake that's frozen.

Man....I may be "Polar Bear", but I'm staying inside where it's warm! However, I applaud these people for doing something like this for cancer research. Very COOL! ;)

ABOVE- The unanticipated star of Michelle’s Marchers was 26-year-old Marc Wiles of Massillon. The sturdy pipefitter steadfastly maintained he intended to jump up and out in “a graceful swan dive.”

“But at the last minute I slipped on the carpet, and in mid-air, I had to make an adjustment,” he said, explaining his crowd-pleasing bellywhopper.

It could have been better executed, Wiles acknowledged with mock regret.

“I was planning on working out until I stubbed my toe.”

STORY:

One hundred fourteen polar bears were spotted jumping through a hole in the ice Saturday at Portage Lakes State Park.

Earlier, members of the Portage Lakes Polar Bear Club used chain saws to cut a hole in the ice large enough to permit some fairly elegant water entries. Then they rolled out a red carpet.

It is the fourth year the club has sponsored the fundraiser, and this year’s event benefits the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides breast cancer awareness program.

An early standout of sorts was a tanned 58-year-old man dapper in black satin trunks and a matching bow tie. And the spectators — frustrated drivers were being turned away from all the park’s jammed lots — roared their approval.

I guess replying "go jump in a lake" wouldn't be right, now would it?

I'd gladly try it for charity. But don't call me a Polar Bear.
