I hope that sheds some light on the situation. Man the rumors on some websites were taking on a life of their own.

if i was him i would just stay in canton south. what is the point of goin to a new school for just one year. he already got letters from osu and michigay and i forget who else. If he would have transfered when he was afreshmen or sumthing then tht would be differnt. i think it would be great to have him and we would be better with him but i just dont know if i would come to a new school for just one yaer

I might. Stepping up now as far as competition goes may help him when he makes an even bigger jump next year to big time college football......

Why ask why when he's already clearly stated? He has some close friends on the team that he wants to play with and he wants to try his hand at D1 ball vs some pretty talented teams rather than coast through his sr year. Not that anyone has to agree w/ that but its the way the kid feels.

Believe me, I hear ya, but can you imagine the mud slinging? I doubt our adm. or the family wants any part of that.

From what I read in the article Canton South comes off petty if you ask me. I'd find a way to leave just on principle.

From the above listed Rep article:

"Bourquin is adamant that he believes Massillon's football staff and administration have nothing to do with Torrence wanting to transfer.

"I don't believe the administration at Massillon is behind this at all," Bourquin said. "I think they are all up-standing guys."

Perrin said Wednesday no one from Massillon - inside or outside the program - played any role in Torrence's interest in being a Tiger.

"He's always wanted to be a Massillon Tiger ever since he was a young boy," she said."

This sums it up.

If Devoe Torrence wants to come to Massillon, and his parents support his decision and they follow all the OHSAA guidelines then so be it. Lets stop being so negative and worrying about what everbody else thinks. We should welcome him and his family with open arms to the greatest high school football city in the country. GO TIGERS!!!

Why is it always such a bigger deal when people transfer to Massillon, vs people transferring to McKinley???? Aren't they getting the TB from Aquinas?? See I'm not even sure as noone really talks about it other than here. If he comes great, if not, no big deal we'll be fine.

Did anyone notice the drastic difference between this Rep story & the one last week about the Mckinley transfer? No comments from the family. None from the school. No reasons given for the move. Basically just "All-Stark County rb Christian Griffen has transferred from St. Thomas to Mckinley", and some career stats.

Of course we get the 3rd degree. Oh well, its a joke. Good luck to the family, they seem like good people.

(we posted that the same time Mass6 - I agree!)

I guess it's just something we should be used to, eh Red50Go??? Still gets under my skin a little, seeing as we have the amount of kids to qualify for D-2, yet if we get any good athletes transferring in we're recruiting. I still think kids come to Massillon to play under the Massillon Mystique. I know I did!!!!! That's where my dad played and I'll be darned if I wasn't playing there.

Mass6,

Don't you have a brother playing safety for the Tigers right now (check PM's)? And if Torrence does transfer to Massillon...it will give Massillon a knockout punch at running back. Think about it......

Justin Turner, Chris Thornton, K.J. Herring, Devoe Torrence. That would be a MONSTER!

Torrence must shed the stalking and prowling way for force! Lead with force...win with force. The force Tom Stacy expects out of his charges.

Chronic, I wasn't trying to breed anything into the D-2 saga, just showing that we have a lot less boys at Massillon then they do at McKinley, and we see all the negativity when we get more kids. Nothing more, that thread died, and needed to a long time ago!!!!!!

Nope no relatives of mine are currently playing.

not to knock anyone, but there seems to be a different opinion of Massillon now than there was maybe 4 years ago. If a kid like Torrence tried to come to Massillon when Shep was here, EVERYONE in the state would of whined. There is a new respect in the state with Stacy here.

If Devoe and his family want to come to Massillon and they can work it out that is their choice . That should settle it. There are students in all sports transfering all the time and not much is said in print but let a player come to Massilon and our own paper talks about loyalty. The same people own the two newspapers and I didn,t see any of that loyalty on the student from St, T. Last year McKinley got a central player,a Jackson player and no loyalty articles. No articles of loyalty on all the other transfer students in other sports but when its Massillon, then we get a story. Its time that we get treated the same as everyone else in this county and if Devoe comes to Massillon he should be wecomed with open arms! GO TIGERS SAME RESPECT

Let's not kid ourselves here...when high profile transfers come to Massillon
they will whine and it will be looked upon as recruiting all over the State no matter who the coach is...The problem with 4 years ago..it was are own who
was doing the whinning

His older brother Devon is a very good baseball player. He may never get to OSU if he is drafted high enough in the June baseball draft.

A quote from Tom Stacy in TP's latest column (the usual TP disclaimer applies):

"One of the first things I did when I was hired was to meet with the booster club to let them know we’re going to do things the right way,” Stacy said. “We’re going to shake this reputation that’s out there. When a student-athlete expresses an interest — any student-athlete — it’s going to be done the right way. I have confidence in that, and I know Mr. Blosser does and wouldn’t let it happen any other way.”

The column also mentions possible Herbie opponents and the Tigers expecting to bring in an offensive line coach soon. The entire column can be read here.

It sounds like this kid would be a great asset to Massillon's program. I hope (for all the Massillon fans' sake) his family decides to move within the school district so he gets to play for the Tigers. It sounds like he's a real force to be reckoned with.
