Wow! Winky Wright challenging Bernard Hopkins. It should be an interesting fight between the dominant Wright, who hasn't lost in now eight years and Hopkins, the fiercely strong middleweight who defended his crown 20 times.

Should be a barnburner and the toughest fight of Wright's career. But then again, people said Felix Trinidad would be the toughest fight for Wright and we know what happened (who can forget Jim Lampley's "Winky Wright holds his hands out as if to say do you know me now!") in that fight, Wright in a landslide 12-round unanimous decision.

Stay tuned......

This is going to be a GREAT fight and I REALLY look forward to that. This is one fight that I will actually pay to see. I predict Winky will be able to avoid Hopkins and win a pretty lopsided decision.

CarlE,

I think the fight is going to be a toss-up. My dad and I already have differing opinions on the fight. He thinks Wright might come away with a decision but I am thinking otherwise. Hopkins will rely on his experience against the smaller Wright and use the same tactics he's used throughout his career to pull out a somewhat close win.

CarlE,

I'll drink anything but beer, wine, liquor, margaritas, or any of that other stuff. I've been a big boxing fan all my life and I don't lose too often.

Well, gee whiz Bert Sugar you're going to lose this bet. And I guess we'll have to go with an order of wings from BW3s since you are a non-partaker in alcohol. That's OK, I like to eat too.

CarlE,

You might still be in Florida and I've already bet MTown a Subway footlong sandwich that San Antonio would beat Phoenix in a potential playoff series if it were to happen.

Let me send you a little message in the form of an anecdote: My dad was working back in the early 80's when Thomas Hearns was taking on feared welterweight champion Pipino Cuevas for the WBA title. So many of my dad's friends bet against him in the form that Cuevas would destroy Hearns but my dad picked the challenger and guess what........my dad got filthy rich out of it as the Detroit native won by a second-round TKO.

I see Wright's undefeated streak coming to an end by decision. This isn't Trinidad or Mosley (who just won a world title two weekends ago at 147...TigerLoverFromAfar's favorite fighter) or Quartey. This is Bernard Hopkins...who turned back ALL challengers 20 times and is a legend of the ring!

Really? Some guy from Arkansas named Jermain Taylor may disagree with your expert assessment there, Bert Sugar.

CarlE,

I said 20 straight. Taylor might have been 21 but the judges didn't see it that way. I felt Hopkins won the first fight and to quote your terminology, that decision was "bogus." And no, Taylor didn't defeat Wright either but again, judges didn't see it that way.

I take it even though Wright is the mandatory challenger for Taylor, Hopkins generates more money and I won't argue that one.

Saturday night is the big fight between Hopkins and Wright. It will be a barnburner as expected but I'm taking Hopkins by decision!

Good fight, Hopkins was sure headbutting a lot but in the end I have to be honest and say that I think he won. Winky went up in weight to fight, so it shows he sure wasn't afraid of him. This one might happen again.

The fight was far from a barnburber. I thought that BH should have had a point taken away EARLY in the fight to try and control the holding. Don't know what fight those 3 judges saw, but it was WAY closer than the scorecards indicated !!!

Always makes for a busy Saturday night, when the Mandalay Bay has a featured fight on hand !!

CarlE,

Seems like I got one up on you. Just as I called it, Hopkins won a unanimous decision against Wright, who had not been defeated in eight years.

You know...if it wasn't for three controversial losses early in Wright's career, he would only have one loss on his record...being this one to Hopkins. Wright will be back though, likely at 160 at best.
