i have actually talk to the park director and he supports the Massillon hockey team. See what i mean though . it would be great for kids to be able to ice skate. I wish they would fill up wampler or some kind of tennis court to get the kids to skate and get them into . Exactly why massillon hockey is a great idea. I mean all the people miss the skating at the resovoir . Exactly why massillon never has had a hockey team . Noone gives the kids a chance to learn how to play pick up games or even just try to skate . I was at monument park tonight hoping the ice was frozen over so the team could practice and skate . And it was , i walked right out onto it . But they didnt plow it

... I wish they would fill up (a) tennis court to get the kids to skate ....
That would damage the tennis court... and I don't mean to argue that either sport (hockey or tennis) would be preferable to the other.
But, you are correct. There's minimal cost to building a "temporary" rink on city park property which will easily freeze in the winter.

"Kaminski said the city built a temporary rink at Genshaft Park in 1997. The first year went fine, but by the second year, the weather wasn’t cold enough to keep it operable."
So, after 1997 we haven't had cold enough weather for a couple of inches of water to freeze:help:
"Kaminski said he would consider building a temporary rink, but its highly unlikely skating would be permitted on the Reservoir.
“It is something I would consider down the road,” he said. “If we start having seasons like we’ve had the past couple of weeks it would make it much more advantageous. A temporary rink somewhere is doable, but it is a heck of a liability to put on the lake.”
It doesn't sound like this is very likely to become a reality to me. Why was this "heck of a liability" not even an issue for all of those years that all of us older Massillonians were able to enjoy skating on the rezzy:rock:

A month ago when it was 50-60 degrees up there you guys were bitching because the Legends wasn't open. Now you're bitching because they don't have ice skating on the Reservoir. Earth to the bitchers.....it takes more than a couple of days of consistent weather to make decisions like this. Now, get back out there and get the dang driveway shoveled!! LOL.

Less lawyers back then

Less lawyers back then
That's probably the truth of the matter:cool:
And for the record, if it was directed towards me, I was not ever a "bitcher" about the warm weather or ever made any remark concerning the Legends.
I think that most of us are smart enough here on planet Massillon to realize that these are not split-second decisions, like organizing skating on the rezzy. But it sure as heck is funny how they could manage to be prepared for it every winter when I was growing up. I guess back then they were smart enough to realize that winter was going to come every year sometime after the fall:jestera:
"Weiford wants the city to bring back what he called “a lost art” in the city."
It's too bad Doc isn't in the position of being "one of the powers that be" in this matter.
