The OHSAA has denied the request to show the Massillon at Mentor game live on September 22, on Fox Sports Net.

The OHSAA is always coming up with some lame rule!!! What is wrong with a live game on a Friday!!! Thursday and Saturday are good days!!! Real lame for such a lame organization!!!

... Real lame for such a lame organization!!!
Perhaps if we (Massillon) payed some extra "membership dues" or something it'd get approved.
:2thumbsup:
I still think their accountants have some Enron experience.

A Thursday or Saturday is fine but Friday is not? Do you really think it would impact attendance that much? C'mon.

I think it might. For some fans staying home and watching is a good option if it is live. Not just Massillon but Mentor fans too.
Nothing wrong with delayed broadcast. In fact, having it delayed, means you can watch the game live then go home and watch it on T. V.

I don't have any problem with a delayed broadcast either. However saying fans will stay home to watch it live on a Friday night but allowing it on Thursday or Saturday nights doesn't make sense to me. I contend showing a Thursday night game live would hurt attendance MORE than an Friday night because many people work the next day.

I tend to agree with the decision not to allow Friday night broadcasts. And it's the same reason I prefer ESPN not to show Friday night games. Unless it's a special occasion (like the Ohio Vs. USA series), it not only impacts attendance at the game in question but could hurt other games in the area.

Is anybody surprised???

I'm wondering if they still might show it on a delayed basis. I have no chance to make it up there that night (will be at least 30 mins late for the Iggy game at PBTS as it is) due to work.
I also know some shut-ins who can't make it far out of town who will be disappointed.

I'll bet one of the BIG PRIVATES could get their game broadcast live.
Speaking of BIG PRIVATES, what ever happened to:

Conspiracy Theorists,
As Butler already stated, it's not done because it will affect Massillon vs. Mentor ticket sales (which it would), but because televised Friday night games would affect ALL games across the state. Friday nights are sacred for high school football, and I agree with the ruling. In any event, the game will just be tapedelayed so the shut-ins (dramatic aren't we?) will be able to see the Tigers.
This rule does apply to everyone, however, this June, the OHSAA gave itself the right to review requests on a game by game basis, as opposed to a blanket rule in the past. But alas, FSN has no other Friday night games scheduled anyway.

As I said before I don't have a problem with a tape delayed broadcast. I understand why the Friday rule is in effect (it makes sense) but I don't understand why Thursday and Saturday games are permitted. Casual fans would stay home to watch it on TV no matter what day it's broadcast (thus hurting attendance). That was my point. So save your conspiracy theory stories for Yappi please.

And another very minor point. FSN announced it's broadcast schedule nearly FOUR months ago.

What took so long to make a decision?! Sheesh...
And for Tiger fans the Mentor game will now be tape delayed broadcast at 11:30 PM on FSN Ohio.

This has nothing to do with fans staying home that would have attended the actual game being televised, but other games being played. The OHSAA wants to prevent the casual fan from deciding to stay home as opposed to attending their local game. Most fans aren't planning to go to any game on Thursdays and Saturdays are already hurt by big time college football (as opposed to non-BCS schools playing on Thursday and Friday evenings). The UIL (Texas' OHSAA), has the same rule.
As for why the decision took so long, who cares? The season still hasn't even started.

Are you telling me an Ignatius or Eds fan (casual or otherwise) is going to stay home from their game to watch Massillon and Mentor on TV? That's weak. They do have neat little inventions called DVR's and VCR's. When the Tigers are playing I could care less what's on TV.

Apparently, this concept is lost on you. How about the fan knows his game will be a blowout? How about the fan whose game is going to be on Saturday? How about the fan whose game is raining/snowing? If there is an alternative on TV, they are less likely to go. They have this rule for a good reason in a lot of states.
While some of our favorite Massillon conspiracy theorists love the idea of the OHSAA being anti-Massillon, instead perhaps they'd be better served if they realized that the world doesn't revolve around Massillon?
Here is the latest release announcing game times: http://msn.foxsports.com/id/5593420
Not listed is the Prep Classic in Cincinnati which will be televised by FSN Ohio, although, it may be aired in Northeast Ohio. I'll find out by the end of the day.

We've never claimed that it does. We didn't coin the phrase "the Massillon rule." But why are YOU here?

Man St. Ed fans are cranky lately. Having most public schools throw you away (C'mon Shaker Heights. Get with the program!) and having to play an eight game schedule will do that I guess.

Now back to the topic. This has been considered a "sleeper game" on the Tigers schedule by many.

I think it is going to be a great game and atmosphere. I remember our scrimmage at mentor a couple years ago. The mentor crowd was really into it, I was starting to think it was the regular season........
I got the tigers by 14...............

I agree. I think the atmosphere will be great. They do have a decent following. I hear the Tiger tailgating crew may even get an early start on this one.

Who's cranky? You're the one who is racking their brain to figure out basic logic (and taking this thread onto an entirely different course).
Fortunately, St. Edward was able to find 10 games, although I do appreciate you taking the time to look up Ed's schedule on the OHSAA's Web site. It's apparent your researching skills are about as polished as your logistical skills.
When certain teams are afraid to play my alma mater <cough, cough> in the regular season, you'll take just about any game you can get.

Hey tell the OSHAA to update their site then. They, along with Joe Eitel are supposed to be the "sites of record" in regard to posting schedules. I'll take our schedule over what St. Ed's has this season thank you very much. I'm not even going to dignify your "afraid to play my alma mater" comment with a response. I will ONCE AGAIN try to get this thread back on course. A Mentor preview:

And your assertion that Massillon is scared to play you in the regular season has as many holes as your prevent defense.

Go ahead and ask Tiger Don. Stacy chose playing Moeller over playing St. Edward this year. It's fairly common knowledge.
