I deal with the worst drivers (chronic) that are on the road. They're on the road because somewhere along the line, driving became a "right' instead of a "privledge," but that's another discussion in itself.
Technology will make cities and states a lot of money, but bad drivers cost the economy staggering losses and the future costs are even more perilous. For example, people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance payments for permanent disabilities caused by injuries in auto accidents, in the coming years, will be contending with the other two leading recipients of SSDI, heart and diabetes patients. Politicians need to put that grim projection in their Social Security I.O.U. pipe and smoke it.
The yearly traffic casualties in this country are atrocious - "safer" autos and "safety" deterents have been sorry antidotes for reckless attitudes and behavior behind the steering wheel.
Here's one simple irony to ponder: Generally, the worst chronic offenders have the highest insurance rates, thus can only afford the "minimum limits" because they are generally from a lower socio-economic status. Also, more often than less they are not the brightest bulbs in the sky either (watching an episode of COPS on Saturday night will give you a good profile of this type of person). Hence, you have bozos barreling down the road killing and maiming others and themselves while our charitable society is footing the bill.
We need to draw the line between societal common sense and societal charity a lot closer to common sense, at least pertaining to how we deal with these chronic offenders and other high risk groups of bad drivers.
That's my $.02 worth.

Thanks Bob for making another brilliant move on your way out the door. The guy has the lowest approval rating of any governor in the country. Republicans, Dems and Independents all agree, he's horrible.
