From someone who knows the family I still wonder why he didn't play baseball.

I agree, DB135. Why DOESN'T he play baseball. His father was part of the greatest team ever assembled in Massillon. That would be the First National Bank Pony League team managed by the GREAT Ron Ullum, and coached by Rick Ullum, Kim Ullum, and John Bushway, Sr. What a team THAT was. All superstars.

Isn't track season the same time as baseball season.

yes-- went to state 2years ago on the relay team--not sure about last year but he can get to at least regional/district finals in the 100 meters. if he holds on to the football we have a very very talented backfield next season. Look for JT to play multiple positions assuming all of BG's duties at Wr/flanker!

His father was probably as talented a track athlete but chose baseball. Just thought due to the family involvement and his father's ability at the sport it would have been a natural choice. Obviously not.

Well if he is going to pursue a football career, then showing off his speed in track, may get him more scholarship offers than if he played baseball.
If he intends on playing football in college, then I sure don't fault him for chosing track over baseball.

If he has the talent I doubt the choice of sport would make a significant difference in the number of scholarship offers. Also if he is looking to develop skills (hand/eye coordination) and show off those skills by defensive ability baseball would offer more of an opportunity.

Maybe he enjoys track more then baseball.... and that was his choice.

I kind of figured that out but from what I've heard he never tried baseball out. Again I respect the decision of his parents but was surprised considering his father's background in the sport.

Right, I'll bet most parents don't in some way influence the decisions of their 8 yr. olds academically and athletically.

I helped coach with his father and he taught KJ all that he knows about the game. Even helped coach KJ in Little League All-Stars. He loves track and what it brings to his game on the field. SPEED. The boy can fly.....

He can do what he wants, but it's a shame we don't have a lacrosse team.

If my memory is correct (sometimes it's a bit fuzzy), didn't Coach Lee Tressel have the football players playing Lacrosse in the Spring when he was here.
I believe because the OHSAA stopped Spring training.

Congrats to KJ on the article. Yes he can fly. He and Bryan Sheegog both were on the state qualifying track team for the 200 relay. He will be a 4 year letterman when his senior year. Sheegog will be a 4 year track letter this year. The two of them love to run.
I know for a fact that Keith had taken KJ to different indoor track meets in the off season. He runs a mean 100 too.

He must be the fastest Tiger we've ever had, because no one can see him in the weight room.

Good one but so true--- AAU track takes priority over football????? Our conditioning program in the off season is getting pretty bad!!!!!
Someone better tell them that speed is overwhelming ONLY when applied with power!! Get in the gym KJ-- right now!

I dont believe everything I read but AJ appeared bigger and stronger to me anyhow. Not quite Magnacca from Perry but VERY straight away fast. There is a difference between fast and quick though. Needs to be a little more elusive and not sure how you coach that but I still look for AJ to improve alot next year.

KJ will be alright. He is working out on his own and if I remember right a guy named Walker never touched a weight and had a great exercise program and don't tell me he wasn't impressive... Heisman winner, USFL, NFL Keep working KJ!!

It is team---TEAM--if he works out alone--cool but spend sometime working with your teammates!! Your own motto says all we need to understand--Can you trust your teammates??? Work together, play together, win together, and also lose together!!! KJ--work out with your teammates because it is the right thing to do for the team!!!

After seeing him perform, and coaching him as a player he gives 100% all the time. I for one would have him in my fox hole. His teammates know how he works and most know how important track is to him. There are multi-sport athletes in THIS school system and football is now out of season. Last I checked he has weight training as a class. Maybe just maybe with his wrist and shoulder situation he is planning his future with OPTIONS. Leave the kid alone and let Coach Stacy do his job.

Hey, I love the kid and played for his father in jr. high school--I know the pedigree but players coming up in this system are not doing what is needed to have a winning program right now. It works both ways--you can be a hard worker all day alone but if your teammates are not learning and getting the work ethic that you have suggested then he is hurting the team by not being there. Its the coaches and players that have to set the ground rules for "off season workouts" to set the tone for the 2007 season--together as a TEAM! All players and coaches have room for improvement with "job duties"--including Coach Stacy!!!

monte81,
Of the 32 touchdowns that Justin Turner has, two of those were touchdown passes from quarterback Tim Adkins, spanning 60 yards against Central Catholic and 62 yards against Cleveland St. Ignatius.
Herring, Turner, and Chris Thornton will power what will be a fast, fierce, and forceful running attack under Massillon admiral Tom Stacy, who will be 48 TOMORROW!
HAPPY FORCEFUL 48TH BIRTHDAY COACH STACY!!!!!!

Keno,
I aint talking about no Freshman or JV touchdowns--KJ has around 700 career yards with injuries hampering his career--we all now he can burn but people have questioned his off the field workouts!! ( I would think better because his father worked us hard all the time) I don't know what he is doing right now but if the tigers are going to make a run deep next season someone(alot of someones) better start getting it done NOW!!!! The oline needs alot of work, we lost 4/5 of the defense, our QB, and a all Ohio RB!!! They better not think they can win off the Tiger mystic without preparing harder than ever!!!! The gripe about the up coming seniors last year is that they did not work hard and they seem to continuing to support the talk!! Voluntary or mandatory when you play for the Tigers you go to ALL WORKOUTS!!!

Isn't Herring in an indoor track team during the winter off season?
All three of the running backs should do considerably well with almost the entire o-line returning, granted they had their ups and downs last year, but they were young, I think the year of experience helped and they should be a force to be reckoned with this coming year! :weightlift:
