Speaking of J.Z. Last night while we were finishing up the Christmas tree,my son and I watched the regional semi-final game against McK when Justin was a senior. What a game that was! And what a team that was! We had so much fun watching that and reliving those memories that we found ourselves high-fiving like it was live LOL! Thanks for the memories, Mr. Justin Zwick:sunny:

Kamd50,

For all intents and purposes, Zwick is the best Ohio high school quarterback I have seen. I attended that regional semifinal five years ago and he unleashed his arsenal that night in a 35-19 win. The highlight of that win was Massillon's 28 points they scored off turnovers that night. He reached the pinnacle of his Massillon career when the Tigers scored a 27-7 romp of North Canton Hoover the next week in a regional final at Fawcett Stadium.

That year, Massillon scored just about everytime an opposing team turned the ball over.

Massillon that year in the playoffs scored 93 points, 72 off turnovers in the regional playoffs. In other words 78% of Massillon's 93 points came off turnovers.

I understand that everyone in Massillon wanted Zwick to succeed at Ohio State. But now that Troy Smith has positioned himself to be called the greatest QB in Ohio State history, isn't it time to admit that JZ could have been beaten out by a better player?

And if you heard Thom McDaniels on Jeske last week, he called it 5 years ago.

It's about time somebody put this thought in writing. Guys like TwbT and I have been saying this for two years but the orange-n-black glasses would never come off some people. I sure do admire the way that young Zwick has handled this, though. All class.

Your right, he's a class guy, and will be successful in whatever he chooses to do.

I seceded my opinion the night Troy Smith won the Heisman. Although I still wonder what would be if that sorry-assed TE Ryan Hamby would have caught that TD pass in the 2005 Texas game?

TC,
You know i am ALL Massillon ALL the time but even if OSU wins the Texas game in 05 Zwick still goes back to holding the clippboard. Its about chemistry and rthym and I feel the team responded better to Troy's leadership and aggressive style more than to JZ also. When that last schlarship was given to Smith after watching him at Glenville I started worrying about JZ and his future playing time. The people in Columbus wanted JZ to be the man but Smith just would not go away. I said to you before I thought Smith was a better all around player but JZ had the better arm. JZ will prospure in life anyway and still get a few NFL checks.

Zwick should however get half of the heisman because all the calls he made to players persauding them to go to OSU-- he might have a future with Tressel on the staff if the NFL dont work out.

Ummm, that is obvious. I think everyone knows that. No shame in playing behind smith.

Yes,... what if.

I'm still of the opinion that JZ will prove to be the better NFL-type of QB in the long run; and TS, being a great athlete, will make his mark at a different position (unless he plays QB in Canada).

Football is a different game in the NFL in comparison to the NCAA. The rules are THAT much different.

I cannot argue that the OSU team did respond better to TS as QB... but the way JZ handled the team in the bowl game (vs Kansas St, when TS was suspended) was phenomenal.

That also includes the known resentment that many of his Stark County teammates at OSU held against him. :poke:

We will never know this but it would have been interesting to see how TS would have handled holding a clipboard..

monte81,

The resentment people had toward Zwick is unwarranted. I'll never understand why people from other areas have this big hatred towards Massillon. Massillon did nothing to them.

Sadly though, people will go behind backs and tell why they hate a man like Zwick let alone Massillon but they aren't willing to come forward with it.

Are you certain? My memory is fried, but not THAT fried.
BTW, this weekend I'm drinking egg nog, not beer.

Well, it says "egg nog" on the lable... but the fine print also lists bourbon, rum, & brandy.

... I'll never understand why people from other areas have this big hatred towards Massillon. Massillon did nothing to them....

I tried to figure that one out since I was in H.S. myself. I've learned that for those men who's H.S. football teams actually played against us, there is no hatred. Even for those rival schools (eg, McKinley, Warren, Steubenville, et al) that do "hate" us, there is a balance of respect that goes both ways. The majority of the "hate" is really jealousy from those whose schools have never played us and never will. Those others who truly harbour "hate" toward Massillon as a TEAM and COMMUNITY have their own personal problems and should be pitied.

Crable and Burgess are great examples of those who get beyond all that petty stuff - fierce rivals in HS and now very best friends in college.

Here you go Smitty & CarlE. You two can argue :furious: over who has the best memory.

2004 Alamo Bowl: Ohio State 33, Oklahoma State 7
Thursday, December 30, 2004
Ohio State did it with a gimpy quarterback. Justin Zwick made his first start since Oct. 16 in place of Troy Smith, who was suspended. If that wasn’t enough pressure, Zwick suffered a pulled left hamstring less than five minutes into the game.

2004 Fiesta Bowl: OSU 35, Kansas State 28
Saturday, January 03, 2004
The two Buckeyes who shone brightest were Craig Krenzel, who threw for four touchdowns and was named offensive MVP, and senior wide receiver Michael Jenkins, who became OSU’s career leader in receiving yardage (2,898).
