Retire, re-evaluate in a year, then coach the Browns just to drive Keno crazy.

longtimefirsttime,

Don't push it. I saw Bill Cowher on the Cleveland Browns sidelines when they lost three AFC title games to the Denver Broncos.

Simply put...Dan Reeves was a better head coach than Marty Schottenheimer in the late parts of the 80's. And the Broncos were better than the Browns that decade.

By the way, I also watched the Pittsburgh-Indianapolis 1995 AFC title game. I'll never forget when the referee signaled a touchdown for the Colts after the Hail Mary and then changed it to incomplete......(how can I forget CarlE's classic response..."the ref changed the call because the player DID drop the ball.")

It's December 14th and the Pittsburgh Steelers are still WORLD CHAMPIONS!

For 17 more days. Then it's the offseason, just like the Browns.

longtimefirsttime,

Too bad Cleveland could never beat a Broncos team that were better than them to win the AFC title. Pittsburgh is 1-1 against Denver in AFC title games whereas Cleveland is 0-3.

The Browns best and last chance to play in the Super Bowl ended with a thud on January 14, 1990...a 37-21 loss to Denver. They haven't been close to the Lamar Hunt Trophy and since then, William Laird Cowher has won two of those trophies and one Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Cowher won't coach in Cleveland.

He's coming to Cleveland, Keno. He will turn the franchise around and beat the Steelers. And YOU don't have any sources that say he'll never come here. He was a Cleveland guy, and just like the pride of Cleveland, Drew Carey, he's got Cleveland blood running through him. (I don't know what any of that means but if it works for you it can work for me)

It's December 14th, and the defending world champions are below .500.

IF Cowher would leave the Steelers to "coach" the Browns that would be like trading in a Cadillac for a Escort.....please why would he work out the remaining years before retirement and go out looking like a punk by coaching the Clowns?

longtimefirsttime

Because he doesn't want to be the coach that hung on too long while a good team went in the toilet. He's got a history with the Browns. Art Modell was too stupid to see his coaching potential.

Because the man who finally brings the Browns into the light and leads them to the Super Bowl will place himself next to Mother Theresa and Ghandi in terms of miracle workers. Whoever can fix this mess will need to have a blueprint more detailed than the Marshall Plan.

Cowher coaching the Browns. Cleveland fans need to stop day dreaming! that will never happen. Cowher may retire, and if he does, he will end up missing it too much and be back within a year or two. He may not come back to Pittsburgh, but i can tell you that Cowher or any good coach will NEVER take a job in Cleveland.

That is some real funny stuff but true!!!! All it takes in the NFL is a scout who knows what hes doing and mgt. actually listen to them-- Savage only followed Newsome around in Baltimore and smiled for the camera he was not doing the decision making!!! Defense is king in the NFL and a offense to score 24 a game to win it. You draft defense because they usually can play now and get the offense in free agency unless you could get a Reggie Bush.

Keno,

Marty didnt fumble onthe 2 yard line! Coaches dont make plays and wait other call would you of ran on the 3 yard line with 2--1000 yard running backs!

Coaches know the amount of accolades that would follow by bringing a championship to Cleveland...and that's why they will come. NFL coaches are the kind of guys who want to prove people wrong.

Cowher is no different. You Steeler guys saying it'll never happen are just fearful that he would lead the Brownies to the Super Bowl and begin turning things around in the series.

Cower is one of the best coaches in the league! If he retires after the season he will get phone calls every week like Parcels does everytime he retires.

Like Belichick? Or Schottenheimer? Or Paul Brown? What restrained these great coaches while in Cleveland? A meddling idiot named Art Modell! Spend the $ and you'll get a decent coach (not a Butch Davis or a Chris Palmer. It appears Romeo will also fit in that category.) and let him coach with minimal interference. Spend it and Cowher will come.

The difference between Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
WHEN Cowher does decide to retire, the Steelers wont even have to make one phone call for a new coach. When the Browns need a new coach (which is every 3 or 4 years) They spend most of the offseason on the phone trying to talk someone into the job.
People dont want to coach in Cleveland because they know they dont stand a chance. You need more then a few years to turn around that team, and the owners dont want to wait that long.
Does anyone know how many coaches Cleveland has gone through since Cowher has been in Pittsburgh? And how many of them have gone on to win a super bowl after leaving Cleveland?

Once again, Art Modell was a big reason for that. He micromanaged everything they did. The new ownership group has made a ton of bad choices, from coaching to abysmal draft classes. The Cowher/Pittsburgh relationship is an enigma in the NFL and that has to do with the "old school style" of the Rooney family. Had Cowher been on almost any other team his tenure would not have lasted nearly as long. I'm sure you're aware he "cut his coaching teeth" under Schottenheimer in Cleveland. And there also were reports he wasn't the initial first choice for the Pittsburgh job (Holmgren had already taken the job in Green Bay and Wannstedt accepted a job as Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator under Jimmy Johnson in Dallas).

Think about this:

When Pittsburgh went through four AFC title game losses at home and one Super Bowl loss...the boo-birds were out on the 49-year-old father of three.

Still...Bill Cowher persevered and 14 years later, he became a world champion with his hometown team, the Steelers. From those bitter playoff defeats and shortcomings, he learned from those losses and became a better coach in the long run. When his pride was on the line, he knew who to turn to and that was the main difference in where he is today!

Cowher is 22-5 against the Browns. And Dan Reeves is still a better coach than Marty Schottenheimer......

Not if Marty wins the Super Bowl this year!

MTown,

AFC championships: Reeves 3, Schottenheimer 0. Reeves' Denver Broncos toppled Schottenheimer's Cleveland Browns THREE times in four years!

You know Reeves is better than Schottenheimer. Don't mask the truth!

If Schottenheimer wins the Super Bowl, he will become the third coach who was a coach on the Browns staff to win a world championship (Bill Belichick and Cowher were the other two).

Has Dan Reeves won the Super Bowl?

I'm saying if Marty wins the Super Bowl he will a more successful coach than Reeves. Also, don't forget that Reeves has gotten his butt kicked in every Super Bowl he's coached in.

MTown,

Denver just didn't finish the job in those three Super Bowl losses. They led the New York Giants but allowed 30 second half points and lost 37-21 in Super Bowl XXI. Then in Super Bowl XXII, Denver dug a hole and failed to get out in a 42-10 loss to Washington. In Super Bowl XXIV, Denver never got off like they wanted to and lost 55-10 to San Francisco.

Reeves then lost to Mike Shanahan and the Broncos when he was the Atlanta Falcons head coach (Shanahan was at his peak that year, leading the Broncos to their second title). Reeves

I'd play for Reeves before I'd play for Schottenheimer.
