Jim Houston will be enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame this weekend in South Bend, Ind. The former Massillon High School great was a two-way end who earned first team All-America honors and helped lead the Buckeyes to a national title in 1957.

A three-year lettermen, Houston was viewed as the consummate iron man. He played 1,453 of a possible 1,680 minutes in three seasons, an average of over 51 minutes per 60-minute game. He averaged over 56 minutes his senior year.

I caddied for Jim and his brother Lin Houston back in the old days at Brookside Country Club during Hall of Fame week. What a class guy, and a class act that he was. In fact, both of them were. Plus they were good tippers. Went along with being good drinkers.

Congratulations to Mr. Houston for this great honor.

Carle,

When you say that you caddied, it makes me think of the caddies in Caddyshack! LOL!! Did you play in the Caddy Tournament?

I got to sit next to him twice at Warren Sports HOF programs and was the MC when he was the speaker. A classy, well-spoken, well-dressed successful businessman.

He sent me a photo and wrote on it, "Go Tigers, Go Bucks and Go Browns."

I saw him play for Massillon. My buddy's older brother played opposite him for Warren. He liked to growl and Houston told him after a couple of plays to shut up or he'd knock the "growl out of him." And....he did.

I saw him also at OSU and he was one fine football player along with an outstanding career with theonce-proud Cleveland Browns.
