With so much size, how good could they be "if" they gell very early in the season?? :scratchchin:

Size has to be complimented by technique. I remember we used to bring in hogs to combat the size of Moeller's lines in the old days. The problem was that they were all size and didn't know squat about playing the offensive line. But, if they gell early this could be another special season.

Knowing OL coach Vrotsos, it's surprizing he didn't figure this out... esp. after seeing HOW McKinley beat Moe at the Rubber Bowl for the '81 championship.

sounds like we will be huge, but their quickness and technique, as stated before, is in question. lets hope that gamble or whoever is running the ball, won't be beating the guard to the p.o.a. conditioning will also be very important given the size of these kids.

Apparently conditioning is going well overall with some of our biggest guys making the greatest improvements. I know Coach Stacy has been reinforcing to the players the need to be in our best condition to handle “being in the sun on 110 degree turf down in Cincinnati.”
Also Dave Kaple is making his presence felt right off the bat as co-offensive line coach. He is a hands on guy who gets right in with the kids for coaching points.

Brian Gamble continues to drop jaws by making a few “sick” catch/ juke combinations last night.

Coach Stacy said today on the radio that the offensive line is struggleing right now and having some problems picking up the termonology. They have twice as much offense in this year and the skill positions are much ahead of the line right now. He also said they have a long way to go. He also mentioned B. Huth is doing a good job picking up the terminology and making his checks at the line of scrimmage. Slider, out!!!

Bigger doesn't always mean better as stated above. We were bigger up front against St x and their defensive line was slicing right past our line.

I think it was one match up in particular- X's All Ohio senior OLB vs. a sophomore tackle.

X had sooooo much team speed. especially on defense. going into that game i really didn't think there was a team in ohio as fast as us. anyway, we know we will have gobs of speed at the skill positions, lets just hope the o-line can pick it up here in the next couple of weeks and be the piece of the puzzle that makes our offense complete.

I'm not usually a fan of playing cupcakes and hockey pucks to start the season, but I think that the schedule may be a blessing in disguise this year. The way I see it, we have have an extra 2 weeks to concentrate on coaching and player development rather than working on specific game plans. Given that we have lots of new bodies to work in, that extra instruction time could pay big dividends down the road.

Whether it was intentional or not, I too think it was a blessing in disguise.

You are right--If would have made coaching adjustments with the TE and fullback double team or unbalanced could of worked also! St.X would have adjusted easier to unbalanced formations! nonetheless we could of got some more time to throw! 1 player disrupted our whole game plan! the safety was not chop liver either!

If we are going to have a great offense,we must get a good line.At this point we have one seasoned veteran in Cory Shane who was listed at 6,1 and 235lbs last year. Reggie Comeaux 6,4 310lbs. and played in 5 games. Coach Stacy said ,at this time, Brad Bailey was leading at the center position and he was listed last year at5,11 and235lbs and no varsity experence. At strong guard,Mike Gaston 6,2 and 205 lbs last year was a defensive lineman. Pat Laubert6,4 and 380lbs and Steve Johnson 6,2 and 330lbs last year were alternating at the other tackle spot. I think Laubert is down to 350lbs. This is a young line and they will need some time and experence if they are to become a good line. So the first 2 games should help in their development. As I have said before, they will be tested by Moeller as they have most of their defense back. GO TIGERS
