Oh no, here we go again......it's bad enough Perry fans will never forgive Michael Porrini for telling them to "GO HOME" after making the game-winning basket in the first Perry-Massillon game.

Far as Panthers and Tigers go...that Perry fan just better accept the fact that the beasts of Lincoln Way East are the defending Division I state football finalist Massillon Tigers.

P.S. Don't forget Max Shafer's decisive field goal in 2002 to give Massillon a once-and-for-all 23-21 win. Over the Perry Panthers. Nothing more, nothing less.

Some interesting posts, to say the least. From what I've seen and been told, this years Perry team will have better players at almost every position, but inexperienced. Decent team speed and better than average at the skill positions, but once again a backfield full of underclassmen with little or no game experience. No one the size of Kirk Barton or Zach Slates on the line, but stronger kids with good quickness.
With you guys this week and Ursuline next week I hope the Panthers open the season with everyone healthy! That's two rough scrimmages. From what I understand this will be a 10 play deal, with the coaches on the field. There will be some first and ten action following the 10 plays. For Perry, I will be looking at what underclassmen pick their games up a notch against a very tough opponent. I will also be admiring Gamble, Daily and some of the other exceptional Tiger players. Again, this will be a tough, but good test for a young Panther team. Let's hope for a good scrimmage that's injury free for both teams.
It would be nice to have some of those great games again like we had back in 99, 2000 and 02, but the Panthers look to be a year away from competing at that level. Good luck to the Tigers in 06, you have a class act in Coach Stacy and he has the Tiger program back and in the right direction.

Coach Miller stated last week on Ray Jeske's show that he he did expect to pass more this year. So you might see one or two extra passes from the Panthers.

Perry74
08-09-2006, 09:20 AM
DAWGH8R,
You will see some more passing and from what I've seen so far they will run wing t, but a different version than Wakefield's, and some spread.

DAWGH8R
08-09-2006, 09:50 AM
Good,

The downfall for Perry, is that they play the SAME teams EVERY year. So, the Wing T is not an offense that opponents haven't defended.

Hopefully, opening things up a bit, will benefit them in the long run.

Kamd50, Thanks and I know injuries are part of football, but you just hate to see anyone get hurt from any team, no matter whether he is the starter or a reserve. I guess seeing what the Browns are going through prompted my thinking.

Chubby Tiger, I hope I see some positives on Perry's end. I know we will see some from the Massillon side. Not only a rough day, but a rough 2 weeks. Ursuline is supposed to be loaded and Perry travels up to Youngstown next Friday for a game condition affair.

There's one thing about scrimmages I've learned over the years...they are not the end all be all on predicting a season. For one thing no one has scouted each other for a scrimmage like a regular season game and coaches aren't going to show their regular season opponents everything in their arsenals. Most offenses will run basic stuff and same with the defenses. Many times coaches go into scrimmages wanting to work on certain things, which limits the playbook some.
I will be there with two friends and hope to see a good tough scrimmage. I think it's good for Perry to play someone with Massillon's toughness, size and quickness. It will only help them come regular season.

I can't wait to get my Tiger "fix"!

I look for improvements from Perry in 2006 depending on the effectiveness of their new passing scheme. Talent is improved over 2004/2005. Should be a good srimmage for both teams.

I loved that game. My boyfriend and I were sitting in the endzone and had an excellent vantage point for Max's kick.

Massillon was amazing in the last couple minutes of that game. I'm still not sure how they got all the way up to FG range in the short amount of time they had to do it, but it was one of the coolest games I've seen. Max was NAILS that night. I thought that the Tigers looked pretty good. If the O-line really get it together they will be a force. If that line is able to work together and use that weight, they should be able to push any body at least five yards off the line. I also thought the D did a good job. There was some arm tackling that allowed Perry to have a few good runs. Overall, good job gentlemen. If this was a real game, it wouldn't have been pretty. :gotigers:

Very encouraging to see the varsity play as well as they did. Very tough tonight...thank goodness football has finally come back to Massillon!!!

Perry74
08-12-2006, 09:58 PM
Massillon's offense looked impressive. Huth put the ball on the money as did Reiter. Gamble is an exceptional player on both sides of the ball. Porrini is a very good WR. To many skilled players for the Panthers to corral.

I thought Perry's running attack was good at times. They still look to be off on their timing a bit. That will happen with 4 new starters and 3 of them juniors. I like the determination of all our RB's. Massillon's defense had a little to say about it also. I was not happy with the Panthers passing game. Some of it was pressure and then it looked as though our QB then started to rush his throws. I felt his accuracy was a problem at times in the JV games last year and it still needs some work. I like our soph. QB #6, he looks to be a real good athlete. If the passing remains a problem, you have to wonder if putting a hard runner like #7 is, in the backfield and starting #6 at QB, while only a soph. looks to be a gamer.

Defensively the Tigers and Panthers both hit hard. Massillon's LB's and OLB's are very good players. Their DB's cover well, but didn't get tested a whole lot tonight.
Despite the long runs by Gamble I thought Perry's run defense wasn't all that bad. As I thought, the Panthers started 8 juniors on defense. Pass defense on the other hand was not as good as I thought it might be.
I saw two starters (one from the offensive line and one from the defensive line, both seniors) sitting on the bench that did not play. I didn't see any crutches, splints, casts or limps, so I don't know why they didn't play.

Best of luck to the Tigers this season. It looks like another very good season on the horizon for Coach Stacy and the Tiger Nation.

Hopefully the young Panthers grow and improve over the next few weeks.

GrowlingTiger87
08-12-2006, 10:48 PM
My observations are this:

-Huth and the "O" looked very crisp and in mid-season form.
-Very quick and very athletic on both sides of the ball. BIG hitters all around on "D".
-A little sloppy at times in wrapping up tackles (okay, mostly the reserves, so I'm not going to nit pick).
-Special teams are indeed special. However, I really don't want Dailey punting unless absolutely needed. Not that he was bad, but just that I don't like the fact that he could be a sitting duck for opponents to take out. He's too valuable elsewhere. Use the other kid.
-Gamble looked unbelievably on track.

I'm really ready for the season to get rolling. I think this has the potential to be another special season in Tigertown!

It was a fun night, yes sir! And boy what a big difference in the tempo once they put the starters in! They were VERY good, indeed, and definately were ready for some football! Perry looked a little better than I anticipated. I am sure they will improve.

We were also impressed with Steve Ryder,#4.(just to let you know P74, not Reiter, lol). That arm of his is looking pretty good along with Bobby's accuracy! Was also impressed with Rob Maylor's punting skills:thumbsup: Man, I can't wait for the first game!

Even got to meet Marie for a hot second and saw TC carrying his pride and joy down the stairs, but was too far away to catch ya Coach, hopefully next time! The little one seemed quite well-behaved, what a cutie
And then, get to catch the tailend of the Indians 2nd victory of the day!

I thought that we performed pretty well also in the first scrimmage last night. I am not sure how good of a look Perry gave us, very one dimensional and just not the quality of opposition I think we need to open the scrimmage season with.

Huth looked very good, as did Gamble. I think we have an outstanding group of receivers this year, Porrini, Dailey, Jackson, Sheegog and when healthy, Miller, not to mention Gamble, who I feel is virtually uncoverable when he is in the slot. If Herring and Turner prove that they can handle the load, just imagine a set where we line Herring up as tailback, and send out a four receiver package of Dailey, Gamble, and ANY of the other players I mentioned! What a headache for most teams to cover!!

Another positive I saw was the defensive line play, especially Saunders and Yoder. They are a couple of beasts!! Our outside linebackers also look pretty darn good, as well as our safeties.

My biggest concern on defense would be our corners and our inside linebackers. I just wonder if our inside backers are big enough to handle a large, physical football team, such as Ed's or Moeller or Ignatius. They seemed to get lost quite a bit last night.

Overall, I think we should have a very successful season again this year.

not to bad for the first scrimmage but would like to see are kids against a faster team then perry. perry played hard but didn't have the speed to keep up with are tigers. gamble played good as well as some others. kicking game looked to be very solid. we shall see as far as punt returns and punting {not alot I hope} when the regular season hits. looks like we have ton of weapons on offense. as far as the D not to shabby and I would hope they keep working on tackling.:tig: .

Don't want to get attacked for saying anything negative, but not too many teams win the kind of games we want to win with linebackers that don't even weigh 200 pounds. I think Dailey would be a huge run stuffer at inside backer. At outside backer, it allows teams to run away from Andrew and limit his impact on defense, kind of like teams did when we had Crable.

Kamd50
08-13-2006, 10:21 AM
I'm not attacking, BB, I think that we need to trust the coaches and have faith in them that they will play the right guys in the right positions. Afterall, they are with them everyday and know better than anyone what their strong points are and can see where they will be the most effective.

Andrew, like Gamble, is another one of those kids who would do well just about anywhere.

Good comments. Might as well add my thoughts (w/ an eye towards improvement):

Offensive line is improving, but has a way to go. Did not do as well as could have in goal line situation. Basically couldn't score.

Butler, 48, I thought stood out in JV action, but Heimann, 91, started on varsity DT. He did well too but I think that will be a real battle. I agree Yoder and Saunders are beasts.

Our inside backers, Colly and Scassa are good. But I worry about their size, both sub 200. They'll hit ya! But they wont exactly stop you dead in your tracks. Some of the 200# plus Tb's we will be facing this year will be a real challenge, and I look forward to it.

I realize it was Perry, but the secondary looked GREAT!

Finally, I hate to mention it, but you could not help but notice our JV's struggled vs Perry's. Perry basically got the better of us, and plus they had a ton of juniors on varsity. I know we are loaded this year but we lose a ton to graduation and the next couple years are more of a question mark. I imagine Stacy took that into consideration w/ his comments the other day about whether to opt up the next 2 years. Just saying... Keep an open mind and defer to his, and the schools, judgement. Whatever happens happens but always MASSILLON!

Maylors first punt was LEGENDARY.

Huith Looked great as did Ryder.

Gamble was jaw dropping.

Dailey again is a manchild all over the field.

Porini looks like a football player now.

Georgio Jackson has me very excited he could be great.

Who is 46 on JV that kid is an anmial.

Schoot looked incredable.

I'm very exctied 15-0 Let's Go!

Thats all for today
#46 is Kenny Pettis-- Tomar's little brother! We have alot of talent on this team and not enough positions!!! I hope we dont let talent sit around and get frustrated-- we need every kid we can get to participate!!!

Monte, or anyone, was that 46 or 48 making all those plays in the backfield? One play in particular the Perry QB got "ragdolled" to the ground. Pretty impressive.

I dont know who #48 was but overall the JV needs some help-- Perry was dominating them overall!!! the varsity "D" looked in rare form-- I hope that is a sign for the whole year!!! Huth still looks hesitant to run when WRs are covered!! he cant afford to stay in the pocket and take hits or sacks!!! BGlooks faster and Herring should be a full time player somewhere! The coaches need to find irwin and turner a spot to play!!! Porrini is a natural corner and could sure up the "D" backfield and Irwin can play OLB-- just my opinion to get better!!! I hope Stacey lets my brother get some"O" time somewhere-- he is itching for the rock!!!!

Turner will get some repetitions this Friday at Fremont Ross...I am pretty sure that Stacy wants him to get a feel of what varsity ball will be like.

I can say this: with Turner manning the ship at RB for the JV team under head coach Brian Pachis, the Tigers will be looking at a seven-win or an eight-win season.
