An official with knowledge of the latest developments in the coaching search told The Associated Press on Sunday night that president Lou Anna Simon would recommend the move to the board of trustees.

Not a huge surprise with his Big 10 experience (an assistant with the Spartans and former DC with the Buckeyes). His leading Cincinnati to a 7-5 record and a possible bowl bid this season is pretty admirable, considering their schedule and not having a roster that blows anyone away.

I heard that this morning also, everyone in Cleveland was thinking that current Browns Defensive Coordinator, Todd Grantham, was going to get the job. If I were Michigan State, I think I'd at least talk with Larry Coker.

Michigan State's problem the last couple of years has been recruiting 2nd tier guys in my opinion. They have not been able to get 3 or 4 recruits a year who turned down a Notre Dame, OSU or Michigan to come there. The guys that they got from Ohio and this area recently (Ringer from Chaminade, Davis from Alliance, Long and Smith from GlenOak) were not top tier guys in the state and Michigan State was the "biggest" school they received offers from. Dantonio would provide that spark I believe and with his recruiting of Ohio while at Ohio St. and UC, I feel that he might be able to steal a couple of guys from Ohio from the Big 3(OSU, Michigan, and Notre Dame) of the Midwest.
