Oh, that's right, they lost to Cincinnati.

As well he should have. Florida is the CHAMPION of the toughest conference in football, top-to-bottom. Michigan is a conference runner-up. This is a no-brainer in my opinion.

It will be Florida, because the voters don't want a rematch. Rather than vote honestly, they will vote Michigan down in order to artifically skew the results.
I suspect that most people who have seen Florida and Michigan play would say Michigan has the better team. However, a) a Michigan win would create another nightmare scenario, and b) an SEC representative in the title game will assure that the money and glory get spread around.
Too bad, but politics will deny us the better game.

tOSU beat michigan once already. where it happened, doesn't matter. frankly, if a match-up occurred again... i believe tOSU wins by 2 touchdowns.
but the fact-of-the-matter is...michigan is THE second place team in the big ten. the gators are the champions of the best conference in college football.
tOSU v Florida should happen. it's a travesty if it doesn't.

I know all about the OSU vs. Michigan rivalry. I lived in OH for 38 years. How could I not?
However, it just make perfect sense to have the champ of each conference play each other.
Remember the title, NATIONAL championship. Not Big 10 Championship.

Exactly. Kirk Herbstreit said that if a voter is going to vote based on the not wanting to see a rematch scenerio, then that voter shouldn't vote - I agree. Unfortunately, many will. Either way, the BCS is skewed again. It's a flawed system. Who's better Florida or Michigan will be argued a million different ways from now until Sunday night.

The question is, who is the 2nd best football team in the country? If you say Florida, that is fine and they should be in. If you say Michigan, then they should be in the title game. I don't agree with the whole Michigan shouldn't be in it since they had their chance. Who the number two team is will be everyone's opinion since Michigan and Florida didn't play. But I really don't agree with saying Michigan is number 2 but shouldn't get a rematch. The title game is very #1. Vs. #2. If one has the opinion that Florida is really number 2, I respect that view much more than saying Michigan is #2 but shouldn't play in the TITLE game.
but the fact-of-the-matter is...michigan is THE second place team in the big ten. the gators are the champions of the best conference in college football.
So the top two teams in football can't be in the same conference? What if Wisconsin had ended up going undefeated? Would they get left out of the title game since it would be a big ten championship game? What if Florida had lost? Should we play 2 loss LSU? Or what about 1 loss Louisville? Boise State is undefeated. Who cares as long as we don't have to play Michigan again.
Having said all that, I think Obie Wan is right on. OSU vs. Florida will probably generate more interest. Plus, if Michigan did win then you have two teams with each having only one loss to each other which would make the BCS look even worse. I hadn't heard that quote by Herbstreit, but I really agree. Those people should just not vote. I am curious who Tressel thinks is number 2.
Is it next year that we play USC? Do the Big Ten winners and Pac-10 winners still go to the Rose Bowl? If OSU wins the Big Ten and beats USC, and USC wins the Pac-10, what should happen? Should the Pac-10 just choose someone else to play. Should the Big Ten send a weaker opponent? I am curious as to what people think of this scenario.

Look, OSU and Michigan is a RIVALRY. Records, strength of schedule, home field.....none of that means anything. Hell, I'd play that scum in the middle of the street and still be positive of an OSU victory. This is about what is RIGHT. Florida finished with the SAME RECORD and played in the toughest conference in football. AND won the conference championship on the field. Yes, facts are facts. OSU will blow out FL by 4-5 touchdowns. UM is the only team in the country good enough to hang with them.
Btw, if a UM-FL game was played, Vegas picks UM by 6 points.
I give Kirk Herbstreit kudos. He said you shouldn't vote if it's about having a rematch and you have a problem with it. He said it should be about the TWO best teams in the country.
Regardless, this begs for a true playoff setup like Div. 1AA.

i agree with you.
my statements are a direct result of the debacle that happened several years ago....when Oklahoma played USC (and were destroyed) after they were defeated handedly in the big 12 championship. THAT situation spawned the debate of...whether a team that doesn't win it's own league championship, should be eligible to play for a national championship.

Case for Michigan
1. Michigan is generally acknowledged by almost everyone as the nation's second best team. Even when USC was ranked number two, that was more of a function of the voters preventing a rematch than it was a confirmation of the Trojans.
2. The first game in Columbus didn't settle the issue in the minds of many. If you're a believer that home field advantage means three points, then Michigan and Ohio State are dead even. Now, many want to see what would happen on a neutral field.
3. Going into this last weekend, Michigan played the nation's third toughest schedule behind Cincinnati and one other team which will go nameless for a moment.
4. It's not like Florida showed great pizzazz getting to 12-1. There's a reason no one's been pushing the Gators for the national title; it has been a bit zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (Percy Harvin excluded). While style points shouldn't matter, Florida got sacked by Auburn in a 27-17 loss; the offense was shut down in the second half (but the defense was impressive). Michigan's one loss, of course, was as forgivable as it gets.
5. The offense should be every bit as good in a rematch with Ohio Stat, if not better. Mario Manningham was just getting back in the swing of things. One of the nation's best receivers, Michigan's offense is far more potent when he's 100% and rolling. Those 39 points and close to 400 yards of total offense weren't a fluke.
Case for Florida
1. Schedule, schedule, schedule. Going into the final weekend of the season, the Gators played the nation's toughest schedule, and it wasn't even close. The cumulative opposition winning percentage was 0.643. Number two Cincinnati was 0.622. That might not seem like much, but it is.
2. The SEC deserves a break. Auburn got hosed in 2003 when USC and Oklahoma squared off for the national title. If you believe the SEC is the nation's toughest conference, then its champion should go in.
3. Michigan didn't win it's own conference title. If you're the number two in your league, how is it possible, theoretically or practically, that you should be named the best team in the country?
4. Michigan beat an overrated Notre Dame team that had one win over a team with a pulse (Georgia Tech) and got by Wisconsin before the Badger offense, primarily the receivers, began to jell. Ohio State and Michigan basically fattened up their records against a horrible Big Ten while Florida ended up beating nine bowl teams and lost to one.
5. The defense is the real deal. The secondary might be a bit suspect, but the front seven, despite injuries, is rock-solid. Throw in a veteran quarterback like Chris Leak, and a head coach in Urban Meyer who doesn't lose when he gets more than two weeks to prepare, and you have a team more than good enough to not just
austinsm11

Good way to look at it from both sides. Watching ESPN, they all seem to think Michigan will be playing in the championship game but Florida should be.
3. Michigan didn't win it's own conference title. If you're the number two in your league, how is it possible, theoretically or practically, that you should be named the best team in the country?
So why can't the top two teams in the country come from the same conference? Isn't it a possibility that even if there was a playoff that Michigan and Ohio State would meet in the championship game?
Regardless of who gets in, there will be controversy. Could this be the start of the college playoffs?

This is turning into an absolute crock. Florida gained 66 points on Michigan from the 62 voters in the coaches poll, which means that some voters actually moved Florida two places ahead of Michigan. After watching the Florida-Arkansas game, it would be more appropriate to move the Gators down in the poll.
It looks to me like the fix is in, as the voting seems to be going according to the prevailing political pressure.

Not bad cracker. What's your Ville-Wake prediction?
Da Ville 38 Wake 17
Louisville offense is way to much for Wake, Louisville might put up 50 in this game, Wake will think they can play in a shootout but they can not shoot it out with Da Ville. Wake has a good team and had a good year, but they are playing a team who had they not blown a 25-7 lead at Rutgers, would be playing OSU for the National title. Louisville wins to finish 3rd int he final polls.
LSU 31 ND 21
LSU defense might literally kill Brady Quinn. I hope Quinn has an insurance policy because LSU front 7 will destroy ND's o-line. LSU always plays big in bowl games. Quinn will throw 3 td's, one will be a cheap one at the end to make it seem close. LSU will also score a defensive td.
USC 28 Michigan 24
Is USC that good this year?...NO. Do they still have more overall athletes and talent to beat Michigan?..YES. Perfect game for USC, nobody will expect them to win and everyone will expect a big MIchigan win, but it wont happen. Henne throws 3 picks.
Boise State 21- Oklahoma 20
Maybe this is just wishful thinking because I like Boise, they are the Rocky Balboa of college football, overachieving and no respect. Oklahoma's defense is playing great right now, but be careful...Ian Johnson (rb) from Boise is the real deal. He will run for over 130 in the Fiesta versus a stingy Oklahoma run defense, you heard it here first.
and in the big one......
OSU 24 Florida 20
OSU should blow them out, but with Urban's trick plays and Mr. Tebow rushing the ball, the Gators will keep it close. This is also Chris Leaks one chance to erase 4 average years at Florida after being considered a "GOD" coming out of Independence high school in Charlotte, NC. Some say Urban is a crier but he will bring it all out in this game. OSU will see more trick plays from Florida in this one game then they have seen in the past 5 years in the Big 10.
Top 5 after the bowl games
1. OSU
2. LSU
3. Louisville
4. USC (might be 3rd, because voters will give them more for beating
Michigan then they will for Da Ville beating Wake)
5. Boise St.

LTFT, Although it may have appeared that I was "dishing it out", please know that I was merely pointing out the total lack of respect being shown to any football teams other than UM and OSU after the end of the regular season.
As a long time fan, and contributor of OSU, I was initially shocked at the comments and statements being made by Buckeye and Wolverine fans, and ultimately pi$$ed off at the arrogance displayed by both as I traveled to Ohio, Michigan and subsequently back to Florida prior to the game. It was sickening to witness the actions of "Buckeye fans" of all ages leading up to the kick off on January 8th, and it was even more disgusting to hear them shouting "SEC Suck$" after the opening kickoff at the sports bar I watched the game at!
Don't take it personal, it's just a little venting on my part!
