The penalty was justified...you can't hit the quarterback in the helmet. Crable was in full pursuit and I respect the official's call. You have to protect the quarterback. But don't harass Crable (a Massillon native) over one play.
By the way, austinsm11, the only way this thread becomes stupid is if people start harassing him repeatedly, that is when the moderators will intervene as they desire.
I don't believe in terming posts stupid or what not as I was once taught growing up by my parents to treat others the way you want to be treated.

This thread should be immediately CLOSED!!!!!! You trying to start some trouble!!!!!!!!:furious:
when the QB runs, he is no longer a QB. If the hit is not intentional, it should not be a penalty. With all these, protect the QB rules in college and the NFL, it gives the advantage to a QB. That should have been a no call.

it was friggin helmut to helmut. crable's only fault was he is much taller than smith. it happens.
good call, the right call... a horrible break for crable and michigan.
The OSU Team won the game and the Michigan Team lost. It was not an individual effort or one particular play that caused the results.

Point being...speaking for everyone who is an Ohio State fan...they were the tougher football team in the end...a little tougher than Michigan.
Once people on here see that, all other claims have no validity to them.
Crable didn't lose the game. OSU was a little tougher in the end. That's all.
I was disappointed by the call but again, it was justified.

The call was correct and was a boost to Ohio State. But who knows how it would have played out. I have confidence that the Buckeyes win the game, with or without that call.

I really don't care but stut up -- you out of line guy!!! Do i talk to you like that????? Don't start nothing! SC is my family and just tired of all the bull@hit!!!! I never said the hit was legal or a penalty was not warranted!!! The rules are to extreme and they need to let them play football! They treat Qb's like grandmas!!!! He let up on the hit and had a player on his back for peaks sake!!!!!

I am disappointed that people think Crable lost the game for Michigan. How many times do I have to say (I'm a Michigan fan, I should know) that OSU was the tougher football team in the end?
There are days when I see the posts I am seeing, I just want to put a gun to my head. This is one of those days (even though my good friend Jessica has told me in the past about saying that).

It's kind of ironic that the Michigan Go Blue web-site isn't blaming Shawn for the hit, or, saying it's the reason they lost!
However, it's pretty funny that the reporter says that "OSU won the battle of MISTAKES", and goes on to say that the Buckeyes scored 21 points off of UM mistakes, and UM only scored 3 points off of OSU mistakes. That comment in itself isn't that funny, however when you read the description of the mistakes that UM made that lead to OSU's 21 points, it's freakin hilarious.
Michigan "mistake" #1. Chris Wells ran for a 52 yard TD!
Michigan "mistake" #2. Antonio Pittman ran for a 56 yard TD!
Michigan "mistake" #3. Shawn Crable got tagged with a late hit penalty on a crucial 3rd down that resulted in an OSU first down!
Heck, under that criteria I'm thinking UM mad more like 20 mistakes. I know OSU had other TD's, kicked FG's, and UM had OTHER penalties!
The GO Blue folks are idiots!

ok monte. you are correct. i am wrong for telling you to shut up. however, understand i TOO am tired of this BS. the focus on this one single play is ridiculous.
it was an effort play SC was making... and imho... his only mistake was he's a bit taller than smith. that's all. not dirty, no ill-intentions... and unfortunate break for SC and michigan.
and while i do agree that QB's are treated like babies (moreso in the NFL) ...my point is that helmut to helmut contact ANYWHERE on the field would be called.
again... my sincere apologies for telling you to shut up. it was uncalled for.

monte81,
I know how you feel about that. I've been around it. Last year, there were outsiders accusing a Massillon player (whose name will not be mentioned) of being "cocky, arrogant, brash" and not "caring about no one else but himself" after a 2005 freshman game.
I was approached by an individual and told not to interview the player, who I eventually interviewed anyway.
I won't say much but the player has 32 touchdowns already in his Massillon career after two years and carries a 3.2 grade point average. His mother and family are a classy group of people to be around and I had the pleasure of getting to know them last year.
Bandwagon people are real pains-in-the-butt. First, they love you. Then, they're out to trash you. As Roy Jones said: "I don't worry about what others think."

By the way, austinsm11, the only way this thread becomes stupid is if people start harassing him repeatedly
The thread is stupid for many reasons. First of all that one play doesn't cost them the game. How about the DB's that couldn't cover our receivers? How about the great run defense giving up its' 2 longest runs of the year against OSU? How about the drop passes, etc. etc. etc.
Another reason is the childish arguments and name calling that have already started.
It is also obvious that it wasn't done on purpose. Even though Crable didn't do it on purpose, it is still a penalty, right? A DB who accidentally trips a receiver will still get a PI called on him.
Also, isn't helmet to helmet a penalty anywhere as werperry said?

ChronicTiger,
My memory serves me well. Crable had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 blocks in that game.

I realize that you're more then a little P'd off at the ludicrous stements being made by some here, and many on talk radio outside of the Massillon area, but I really hope you think twice about what "Shawn will say", or, what "Shawn will do" when he sees the "haters"! Worse then speaking for Shawn is the fact that you've already got him being the best player in college next year, being a high first round draft choice, and making millions in the NFL!
Like I said on another post, I sure hope you're not jinxing the poor guy!
This may not be what you want to hear, but "IF" Shawn was coming out this year he wouldn't even be drafted according to many of the people that I know that are involved in H.S., college and pro sports.
"If" Shawn has a solid season next year, and "IF" he stay's healthy thru the Bowls and all star games, and "IF" he has some good workouts and a solid combine, then and only then will he know if he's NFL material.
I have a question for you! Do you think Shawn is better then Kenny Peterson was his Jr. or Sr. year at OSU?
I could go on and on about college "studs" that were nothing more than "duds" at the next level!
If you take nothing else away from my post, please reconsider all the smack you're running "on Shawns behalf"!
Hopefully you'll get to help him spend some of the millions you've already guaranteed him, but I think you need to see it happen first! And that's not to take anything away from Shawn!

1. It wasn't dirty, wasn't intentional, but IS a penalty.
2. It didn't cost Michigan the game. Please.
3. I hope Shawn plays in the NFL and makes us Massillon Proud for him and his family.
Btw, how 'bout that "hit" on Michigans long snapper? Basically a shove. Same deal as the Crable play. It happens. We had 2 4th down penalties as a matter of fact. I dont want to hear MI fans *itch.

First, I didn't speak for nobody!!!! He made a mistake and he will skake the haters off and keep ballin--PERIOD!!! NFL material-- what do you know about NFL material?? Where one time did i say Shawn was going to be the best player in college football??? Do you talk to him, speak to him at any length at all?? I do and i know what his goals are and what HE and only HE can derail barring injury! I said he was the best linebacker from massillon in college since Speilman-- that's what I said!!! My prediction is 1st or 2nd round next year with the continued work ethic!!!!!! you have your opinion and i have mine so we have it!!!! And far as millions -- I don't want none of his future money-- that's an insult to me personally and not appreciated-- I ALWAYS MADE MY OWN WAY!!!!

Since you took nothing positive out of my post, and you chose to send me a nasty PM with some less than classy words that I'm sure the "father that you mentioned" wouldn't be too proud of, I'll go ahead and answer your post with facts.
1. I assure you myself, and the people that I cited in my previous post, know far more about the NFL, and the players that are talented enough, intelligent enough, and healthy enough to play in it, then you will ever know!
2. You have mentioned "He's gonna be a 1st round draft choice", He's gonna be making millions", "He'll say see me in the NFL", and you've said that "He's" not only the best player to come out of Massillon since Chris Spielman, but that he's gonna be a "beast" next year and one of the best players in the country! I added that you've already got Shawn being the "BEST" player in college football next year which is what "I" got out of all of your smack talking!
As far as "where you come from", and "what you've been through" with Shawn and other family members and friends goes, it doesn't have anything to do with my suggestion to you regarding this thread! I can tell you hundreds of stories that I'm sure are very similar to yours and Shawns that I've personally been involved in for 25 years, but again, that doesn't mean anything regarding this thread!
Now I'm sorry that you took my comment about "helping Shawn spend his millions" the wrong way. It certainly wasn't meant in a "Posse member" or, "cling on" kind of way. it was intended in a "I truly hope that Shawn makes millions in the NFL and has good friends and family members like you that can help him make sound decisions with his money!
Last but not least, if you have any doubt about anything that I've said, and you still don't believe that I know what I'm talking about with regards to the NFL, just PM CarlE, TigerCoach or even ChronicTiger who I had a real nice correspondence with yesterday about my credentials, and why I say some things that are sports related, in a "very matter of fact" way!
Don't look for an return PM, I've said all I needed to say right here for those that care!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

I didn't say anything about credintials or I asked you a question! I believe that Shawn will make it in the NFL and have a great season for the Wolverines next year! I don't have to talk to TigerCoach and ChronicTiger they also now me!! I seen great players in high school and college who made it and those who didn't but never claim to be an expert! My opinion is my opinion and yours is yours!! The last 3 years Shawn has improved and is working extra hard to make sure his dreams become reality!!! Who has performed to his level from Massillon and actually had a better than good chance to make it to the NFL????? Not many over the last 25 years so i am going to keep routing for him to make it and keep telling him to go hard every play and only Shawn can stop Shawn!!! Its the doubters that keep pushing us to make things happen!!!

Monte,
I think EVERYONE wants Shawn to succeed and get a chance at the NFL. There's no doubt about it, and his penalty DID NOT cost Michigan the game. It's just a penalty, one play. What about the questionable Pass Interference call against Ohio State on 4th and 16? It didn't cost Ohio State the game either, it was just one play and one penalty. Don't get upset with people who want to blame one play on an entire game, they usually don't understand the game.
By the way, like TigerswillbeTigers, I can tell you of many college players who fizzled out, or never got the chance at the NFL. Heck, I'm one of them. Like I said before, EVERYONE wants Shawn to do well. But, the NFL is a different game than the NCAA in many ways. Sometimes the best athletes, best position players, just don't make it. Interestingly, some guys who weren't college stars DO make it. For example, my roomate at Georgia Tech played Defensive End. Never started a game in 4 years, but played significantly all 4 years. He wasn't All-ACC or anything, just a solid player. He ended up getting drafted in the 6th round by Buffalo and played in 4 Super Bowls over a 12 year career. Who would of thunk it? Not I.
By the way, TigerswillbeTigers knows his stuff. He's not your ordinary "Tiger colored glasses" poster on here. (Although he seems to be turning liberal!) Don't mess with him, and please tell Shawn that we are all pulling for him even though he is a Wolverine!

Several individuals need to get off of Crable's back. The man went full go and I don't blame him for what happened. He was doing his job. What can you say? A Massillon Tiger player would never get blamed for doing something full go, would he not?
