I just wanted to comment on how well the TSB performed at the HOF Grand Parade this morning.
It was very nice to hear Tiger Rag being played the way they played it today.....slower, not so frantic, and much clearer than I've heard it in the past. Everyone sitting around us seemed to enjoy them as well. Obie also did a super job of shaking hands with all the fans (including myself), and was one of the highlights....all the kids around us wanted to touch Obie and say hello.
They looked and sounded much improved than in the past few years. Although I've always enjoyed watching them perform, I thought the last couple of years weren't their best.
The new band director really seems to have done a fantastic job with them so far, and I am looking forward to seeing more of them this coming football season.
I also got some nice pictures of them today which I will post as soon as I can. Great job, TSB!

Finally, the Tiger Rag played the way it should be - slower. lately they've played it like they were trying to set a world's record.

Tiger Rag just gives me the willies. I just want to get out of my seat and jump into dance. Can you tell it's time for football?
I guess it doesn't take Tiger Rag, but gosh darn I'm ready to explode! Where is the gosh darn football!
Duh-Duh, Duh nah-nah! The Tiger!
Duh-Duh, Duh nah-nah! The Tiger!
Duh-Duh, Duh nah-nah! The Tiger!
Whether it's Tubas or farts, we Tigers are pumped. Let's get it on!

The Tiger Swing Band looked like they were dragging to me when I saw them at the HOF parade. I was towards the end, in front of Kempthorn Motors (15th St and Cleveland Ave.) I'm sure walking a few miles will do that to you, but it wasn't that hot out Saturday morning. Maybe they should run a few laps after practice everyday to get in better shape? LOL!!

I know that they did run laps AND marched around the HS and Stadium twice on Monday to get ready for the parade.

The band may have been a little “tired” because they played more.
My niece told me that they didn’t do as much cadence between playing as they had before. So, that means more Tiger Rag for everyone and lots of tired horn and drum players.
I thought they looked great, sounded great, marched great -- they were just great. The highlight of the parade…as always!!
Swing it to the left -- Swing it to the right -- Play that Tiger Rag with all your might!!
Check this out….

The TSB ran around the stadium (outside) about every day the for two weeks before the parade. The also marched around two miles most days including 2.5 miles the Thursday before the parade. It doesn't matter what the temp. is, in the summer those uniforms are hot, hot, hot!!!

Perhaps because it was probably around 100 degrees heat index that day. Might have something to do with it.

Even though they have a "Summer Uniform" I bet they are still hot to wear. They are not the Polo shrits that other bands wear.

And for something like this, that's exactly what they should have. Gosh, I feel bad for those kids in those dang uniforms.

It was at 7:30 in the morning to about 9:30. It wasn't as hot as later in the day. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I hope the Tiger Swing Band shows more enthusiasm than they did towards the end of the HOF parade. Take it as constructive criticism, they looked tired.

My daughter is a varsity cheerleader and a varsity soccer player.
She has been conditioning and practicing every day for weeks...in the incredible heat that we've been having.
I guarantee you that she is currently in as good a shape as any student in any sport or activity.
Yet at the end of that parade, after tumbling for 23 blocks, she was barely able to stand up.
I guess we need to tell the kids that they should learn to put their "game face" on.
"Never let them see you sweat", especially in Canton.

No offense, but I think John Madden was the highlight of the parade. He got more applause than any other person or band- including the TSB- around the area where we were (Civic Center).
Actually, the enshrinees are always "the highlight" of the Hall of Fame parade. I mean, they're what most people come out to see. But, as I mentioned already, TSB sounded very nice.

The only band wearing summer unis was Marlington.

Not offended. And, even though I agree that John Madden was great -- the “highlight” to me is still the Tiger Swing Band. It’s the first time we get to see our band for the new school year and when I see them marching down Cleveland Avenue towards us…. well, that Massillon pride just comes gushing out. A lot of my family (past and present) and I marched that parade. It’s just always special to see the band. (And, we enjoy seeing the other bands too!)
Don’t get me wrong -- I love to see the enshrinees -- that’s what the parade is all about. (I really liked Troy Aikman and of, course his high school band that followed.)
Enshrinees change from year to year, new ones come in and old ones come back. But -- the Massillon band…is the Massillon band…is the Massillon band. Will always be my favorite.

I certainly can understand your pride for the TSB. I feel the same way about The Purple Army. The HOF parade is a great opportunity every year to see the new edition of that year's band.
I am really happy for you TSB fans that you have a new director who seems to have his act together. Your band looked and sounded really nice and seem much improved from the past few years. I am looking forward to catching a few halftime shows of theirs this season.
And I also thought it was really cool that Troy Aikman's high school band traveled all the way from Oklahoma to perform last weekend in the parade. Those kids must have felt really proud to be able to be in Canton for his induction in to the HOF. It would be cool if more inductees could do stuff like that.
