The OHSAA has put the McK-Mentor semifinal game at PBTS. Not sure why they didn't put it in the Rubber Bowl. Mentor fans will probably be more than happy with this news!

OHSAA is on record as saying they make every effort to keep the money "in house". In other words, they try to utilize high school facilities whenever possible.
I'm not sure that Mentor fans would care, as they don't bring many to the games, anyway.

Its time to have some fun. I have a question for everyone, how has Mckinleys schedule prepared them for these playoff games? They beat Whitmer soundly and our tough schedule didn,t help us in that game. People seem to think that you have to play down to your competition but McKinley is proving that you can play above that. The answers should be fun. GO TIGERS----NEXT YEAR

The vamps power ratings have Mentor a one point favorite over McKinley. I am suprised with McKinleys weak schedule that they are only a one point underdog. GO MENTOR STOMP McKINLEY

I will pull for McKinley. Remember when Lima's only loss was to us. I wish it were Massillon trying for the championship, but it would be nice if McKinley's only loss would be to us.

Regardless of the schedules during the season, proper play calling along with execution will win most games in the playoffs.

I will be rooting for the Pups to beat Mentor this Saturday. I can still remember cheering for McK back in the early '80s when they knocked off Moeller to win the state title. As much as I hated the Bulldogs, I hated Moeller even more.
I will almost always root for the Stark county team against someone else.

It's so wonderful to see so many of you rooting for Stark County Football.
I live in Massillon, my daughter goes to Whittier School but I am and always will be a Bulldog fan. My daughter wears her Red and Black to school every Friday....very proudly!!! She calls if freedom of choice. (Which she recently learned at school).
I just can't believe that most of you can't and won't look past this hatred you have for McKinley...these are STILL young boys playing their hearts out, just as your Massillon boys have done.
I for one rooted for Massillon to win last year, if it wasen't McKinley there, then I wanted someone....anyone from Stark County to win.
I like everyone else love McKinley-Massillon week....but I think too many people take it waaaaay to far. What are we teaching our young children with this?? IMO, just hatred for other children....that is however who is playing on these teams.
I would never allow my daughter to boo any team, player or band member.
I know that most will never agree with me...but it is teaching generations to hate...no different then being a racist.
Go Bulldogs!!!!

FWIW... I said back in AUGUST that this region would be won by either Massillon or McKinley... as it has been more than 2/3 of the time since the inception of the playoff format in Ohio.
At this point, I'd rather see McK win out than ANY other team.
Considering that both McK and Colerain have taken some ribbing over "weak" regular season schedules this year ... it would be funny (ironic humor) if both were to meet in the championship game.
Predictions? Only that whoever the region 3 (Columbus area) team is... won't matter.

My daughter goes to Lehman (canton city schools) and she wears her Massillon gear proudly right down to her orange Nikes. The kids there aren't quite as nice about it. She gets taunted even by the teachers at her school-Which is fine she says "because they are just haters" and "we are the winningest team in ohio high school football"
I teach my kids to root for their team, but that doesn't mean making them like the teams we play.
We don't boo Mck-they are just kids playing a game-but we don't root for them either.
Actually the only other team (besides Mck) I never root for is Ignatius.
It just seems silly to pretend otherwise almost unethical.

angiemarie,
I don't see Massillon having a hatred for Canton McKinley. It's more of them wanting to beat Canton McKinley...the same as Canton McKinley wants to beat Massillon. It's a competitive thing and you will have those in a rivalry.
If it's any consolation, Massillon fans are not as sardonic as others might be and I can validate this stance! (As a matter of fact, Massillon doesn't even come close to having those kinds of fans...a testament to their class and civility).
But on the bright side...one sardonic fan or a group of sardonic fans does not define an entire fanbase! Case in point: A Perry fan says that "Massillon is full of scum." Does he define the whole Perry fanbase? No as he is just one person......and one person doesn't make a fanbase.

One way they do it is by having 970 boys AND being in a district with 2 high schools that allows intra-district transfers. In other words, they're McKinley with more kids.

That is the right answer and it is also why the Tigers are having trouble winning another state title because of our declining enrollment . We are one of the smallest Div.1 schools in the state and we do a great job with what we have but the domination that we use do have is gone. No titles in 36 years and it isn,t going to get any easier. None of us like the reallity of the situation but this is the fact. Now I would like to read some answers on how we are going to solve this or are we going ,to stay the course? GO TIGERS----RETURN TO GLORY

The obvious answer according to some would be to drop to division II. However that move would have other permanent (potentially undesirable) affects on the Program.
* * *
I wouldn’t be too quick to solely equate success with winning championships. What matters is this:
1. Winning games on Friday night
2. Beating McKinley
3. Making the playoffs and playing against other top, “name” teams in great venues and having a legitimate chance at beating them
AND building the character of young men in the process.

I respect Mckinley's accomplishments and honor the rivalry as the greatest in Ohio and the nation. But I hope Mckinley loses to Mentor, Cross gets fired, the new coach stinks, they go 0-10 for the next several seasons, noone goes out for football anymore, they merge w/ Timken, they rename the school, and Mckinley becomes defunct. And then Walmart buys the property and levels it.

As of right now the change for the Div.1 in enrollment has been tabled so things may stay the same. If they do change it then coach Stacy and the administration will have to make a decision on where they want to be. Stacy has not commited either way and understands both sides but said ,they will do what is best for the players. He said,go to a freshmen game and we have 35 to 40 players and Iggy has around 100 players He also said that when he was here before which was 15 years ago, that we had around 140 players in the program and now we are in the 90,s. In our last game,he said there was 13 players that was not dressed for that game from the beginning of the season. With these facts and comments, I think it is clear on what hs decision is going to be because this would be best for the players. More comments on our situation. GO TIGERS 61-49 --I love that BIG lead over the bulldogs !!!!!

You ask how they do it. It is in your post. "not only beat them 24-7 but gave them a physical beating". That is what our Tigers need to do every game. Physically l beat down the opponent. You can call all the fancy plays and have a zillion boys but if WE knock them on their BUtts, and man handle them, guess what? WE WIN.
Tiger Flame
11-21-2006, 02:15 PM
The reason they could do that is they have 400 more boys to pick from so they could have a great team. Any renown football program that has large numbers has a advantage over another renown program with less numbers. Just imagine if we had 400 more boys to pick from and only got 10 per cent who were players. that would be 40 more players and bring our numbers back up to where they used to be. We would have depth and might have several more Div. 1 players and would be a much stronger team. GO TIGERS
