Great 4th down call by Coach !! Great catch by Tommy !! This kept McK from having " one last chance" ! Congrats to Tommy, he's a good kid that works VERY hard at fullback, and seldom gets any recognition.

he's tough and could be one of the those nice surprises heading into the playoffs
I have liked him since the beginning of the season. He runs hard and hangs on to the ball. GO TIGERS

Tommy has been automatic all year on the pass play and I was hoping that was the play call at the end. I would like him to do a better job blocking though. Slider, out!!!

One player who deserves to be recognized for his efforts defensively is Antonio Scassa. This was a real breakout game for the senior linebacker, who also had a breakout game against Akron Buchtel as well.
Scassa is one who will definitely impact the Tigers defense this year......he hits like Jack Lambert (former Steelers linebacker) too.

Great thread. As long as were singling out the unsung heros, props again to to Corey Hildreth and his 2nd blocked punt. Way to lay yourself out like that young man!
And to #39 Thornton who made couple tough runs. Good job staying ready all year.
And Robbie Maylor. Did what you had to do. All those punts and I think only 1 return. And for fielding all the snaps flawlessly this year.
Thats how you win. TEAMWORK. And HEART! You dont need to be 6 ft tall or 220# when you have that.

Scassa indeed had a great game, and to me at least, has been the rock of the "D" most of the year. I also like Saunders in the middle. He seems better suited there.

Red50Go,
Don't be surprised to see Chris Thornton be an asset to the Tigers during their playoff run this year.
He along with super sophomore sensation Justin Turner can do some heavy damage come playoff time.
Thornton leads with power. He breaks up a defense early on in the going and when they are tired, that allows Turner the chance to break the long run and take it in for six.
A good example of that is the Massillon-Warren Harding JV game played several weeks ago. It was a stroke of genius on head coach Brian Pachis to use Thornton in the first quarter and it showed as the Raiders were tired by the end of the first period and at midway through the second quarter, Turner broke a 29-yard touchdown run and played through the third before Thornton bruised the Raiders again with his power.
By the way...Turner finished with 78 yards rushing in that game and Thornton had 77.

I agree that Scassa was a beast on Saturday, but Keno how do you have 2 breakout games in one year? You said he had a breakout game versus McKinley and had one earlier in the year versus Buchtel....I'm curious to your journalistic thoughts on that?

Scassa had a breakout YEAR, Keno. He was pretty consistent all year.

I dont think anyone didn't have a huge game that wasn't wearing a white jersey, but anyway great game by both sides one for the ages.

It took guts to make that call! McKinley was not ready for that play! His mother was so happy!!
Scassa and the whole front seven has stepped up the last half of the season! Teams are going to start trying to play action pass on us because we are so aggressive on the run!!!! If we keep blitzing our linebackers we are going to keep rolling to the regional finals!!

Crackerman,
Scassa was in the face of Akron Buchtel running back Ernest Pitts all game long and was also responsible for the quarterback pressures on Glen Campbell as well. Those two are highly touted players on the Griffins roster this year.
Call it that he had not one but two coming out parties at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

I thought Thornton looked impressive in the scrimmages and I am surprised he has not received more playing time. Slider, out!!!

He ran exceptional in the 1st quarter last week!! Maybe he could spark us from time to time! We need a offensive boost.

monte81,
Thornton will be an asset for draining clock and softening up defenses. If you saw the JV game against Warren Harding, the Raiders were tired by the end of the first quarter and Thornton had 41 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Believe me when I tell you, if he hits the Perry defense hard and they get softened up...Massillon has the best depth at running back in Stark County with the powerful Thornton, the speedy Justin Turner, the dangerous Brian Gamble, the tough-as-nails Tommy Leonard, and not to be forgotten also is Cooper Ivan, who ran eight times for 152 yards against Mansfield in a 35-0 freshman game last season in place of Turner.
Massillon has backs and they all can hurt you at any time. I'd hate to be a defensive coordinator trying to stop all these guys.

Red50Go,
Slap me in my face...how can I forget about Herring? To think that would be the last thing I'd do....Thornton, Turner, Ivan, Gamble, Leonard, and Herring!
