Congressman Yells 'You Lie' at Obama During Speech

WASHINGTON -- In an extraordinary breach of congressional decorum, a Republican lawmaker shouted "You lie" at President Barack Obama during his speech to Congress Wednesday.

The incident came directly after Obama said, "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."

"You lie!" Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., shouted from his seat on the Republican side of the chamber.

That's the general consensus. Certainly a lack of decorum being chastised on both sides of the aisle. However, there aren't many people that are actually saying what he said wasn't true, including that disgusting, meely-mouthed skank standing behind the President last night. She is the standard-bearer for supplying illegals with healthcare at America's expense.

And for the record, she was absolutely the most classless human being ever in regards to treatment of a sitting President with some of the things that came out of her mouth about former President Bush. I for one am having fun with this one.

It is a lie and Joe Wilson should be commended for calling him out on it. There is a back door provision in the bill that only requires them to have "lived" in the country for 31 days before they can receive treatment. And by 2014 the democrats plan to grant full amnesty to all illegals which would then cover everyone and anyone. He also needs to stop calling it the public option. There is no option to opt out of it if you don't like it so therefore it's not an option at all. The look on Pelosi's face was priceless! How dare someone call us out on the crap we shovel! Enough of his spinning things. He is a gifted speaker who is trying to once again gain support from the confused people who aren't informed.

Study: Potential Cost to Taxpayers Up to $31 Billion

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As President Obama addresses
the nation on health care reform, a new analysis by the Center for Immigration
Studies estimates that 6.6 million uninsured illegal immigrants could receive
benefits under the House health reform bill (H.R. 3200). While the bill states
that illegal immigrants are not eligible for the new taxpayer-funded
affordability credits, there is nothing in the bill to enforce this provision.
Congress defeated efforts to require the use of the Systematic Alien
Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program. More than 70 other programs of
this kind use SAVE.

The report is available at http://www.CIS.org/IllegalsAndHealthCareHR3200.
Among the findings:

-- In 2007, there were an estimated 6.6 million illegal immigrants
without
health insurance who had incomes below 400 percent of poverty, which
is
the income ceiling for the new affordability premium credits.

-- If all uninsured illegal immigrants with incomes below 400 percent of
poverty received the new credits, the estimated cost to the federal
government would be $30.5 billion annually.

-- The current cost of treating uninsured illegal immigrants at all
levels
of government is an estimated $4.3 billion a year, primarily at
emergency rooms and free clinics.

-- On July 16 an amendment by Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) that would have
required the use of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements
(SAVE) program to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving the
affordability credits was defeated by the House Ways and Means
Committee.

-- At present 71 other means-tested federal programs require use of the
SAVE system to prevent illegal immigrants and other ineligible
non-citizens from accessing them.

-- Even though there is no mechanism to prevent enrollment, it is likely
that many income-eligible illegal immigrants would not enroll out of
fear or lack of knowledge of the new programs. Thus the actual costs
would be less than the maximum estimate of $30.5 billion. However, if
illegal immigrants are legalized and could receive affordability
credits, a much larger percentage would be expected to enroll, with a
corresponding increase in costs.

-- Uninsured illegal immigrants tend to use less in health care on
average
than others without health insurance because they tend to be young.
This
fact is incorporated into the current cost estimate of $4.3 billion.
However, government-provided affordability credits paid to insurance
companies are the same for everyone regardless of age or preexisting
conditions. Therefore, the younger age of illegals does not result in
lower average costs for taxpayers for this program.

-- It is also worth noting that the report estimates that 38 percent of
illegal immigrants had health insurance in 2007. Additionally, the
report estimates that there are at least 360,000 uninsured illegal
immigrants with incomes above 400 percent of poverty who would not
qualify for benefits under H.R. 3200.

-- It is also possible that illegal immigrants could benefit from the
expansion of Medicaid under H.R. 3200. The bill does not require
identity verification for those claiming U.S. birth. Of illegal
immigrants with incomes under 400 percent of poverty, about half live
under 133 percent of poverty, which is the new ceiling for Medicaid
eligibility.

-- On July 30 an amendment by Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) that would have
required identity variation for those claiming U.S. birth was defeated
by the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Methodology: To estimate the number of illegal immigrants in the United States
this report uses the March 2008 Current Population Survey (CPS) collected by
the Census Bureau. While the CPS does not ask the foreign-born if they are
legal residents, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), former INS, and
other outside researchers have all used socio-demographic characteristics in
Census Bureau data to estimate the size of the illegal alien population; this
report follows the same approach. The March CPS also asks about income and
health insurance coverage and on this basis the report estimates the share of
low-income illegal immigrants who are without health insurance coverage. By
design these estimates of the size and characteristics of the
illegal-immigrant population match those

examines the impact of immigration on the United States. It has no position on
the health reform legislation before Congress or any other matter unrelated to
immigration.

The number of uninsured was 46 million as per the democrats for a long time. Now they are starting to use the figure of 30 million. They probably have taken out illegals in the calculation. It would be well over 40 million if illegals were counted.

It is my understanding that the bill the President was referring to last night was a yet to be submitted bill, not really the one that most have been reading/reviewing. The bill everyone has been quoting from does leave room for illegals to get health care, funding of abortions and the like. It is pretty clear there will be health reform and that is good, but it will take a fairly bi-partisan effort to get it done. The democrats will be inviting disaster if they try to push the current bill through without changes and some republican support. I think the house would try to push it through because the democrats tend to be pretty far to the left there, must senate democrats are for the most part more moderate and they will kill it.

I don't see the problem with a public option if it is just for people who don't have health insurance and cannot afford insurance on their own. I do have a problem with the government charging businesses a fine of 8% of their wage package if they do not provide a level of insurance. Most companies pay way more than 8% of their profits for wages and it would be cheaper for them to pay the fine and let their workers go on the government plan, that is the road that will lead to the public option being too large and is the path to nationalized health care. Our country simply doesn't have the resources or the organizational skill to run such a massive program.

In an interview in July with CBS News, Obama said he didn't want to include illegal immigrants but indicated that American taxpayers could be required to pick up some health care bills for their children. That's not the same as all illegal immigrants, which is what Wilson, the South Carolina Republican, was talking about.

So that brings us to to the House Democrats' proposal, aka H.R. 3200. It's true that one portion, Section 246, limits "federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States." But H.R. 3200 is a large and complex bill and Section 246 is limited in scope; the overall bill contains far more moving parts than just affordability credits.

The Congressional Research Service, the legislative branch's research arm, took a close look at H.R. 3200 in a report dated August 25. It concludes that the bill's individual mandate to have health insurance (with tax penalties for non-compliance) would apply to legal residents and illegal aliens alike.

When the legislation's "Health Insurance Exchange" offering private and government-run plans would begin operation in 2013, CRS concluded would be no restrictions on illegal aliens buying government-offered insurance: "H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens participating in the Exchange -- whether the noncitizens are legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently."

Now, there are reasonable arguments for and against allowing illegal immigrants to buy government-sponsored insurance. On one hand, they'd be covering much of the cost of their routine medical care and perhaps reducing unnecessary use of emergency rooms; on the other, if illegal immigrants require more expensive care than U.S. citizens and legal immigrants, Americans who play by the rules would end up subsidizing those who didn't. (Someone will be sure to dub this the "illegal immigrant tax," and depending on how the numbers work out, that might even be correct.)

If Democrats wanted to eliminate allegations such as Joe Wilson's, they could simply rewrite H.R. 3200 to say: No illegal immigrant can shop at the Health Insurance Exchange.
.SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

This seems to be a contradiction. I see it as a loop hole. I believe it to be a slick ploy by the lawyers who are drafting this bill. Now you can either see this in black and white or try to argue with the Congressional Research Service.

Pubs have quite a dilemma, huh? Here is your chance to possibly help small businesses by providing a choice and thats a bad thing? Who's side are you on? Your other dilemma is explaining how administration costs in our private system are MUCH higher than the public system, in this country or any country.

Oh my you must be ill. Did it ever occur to you that the government doesn't need to turn a profit and can fund any shortfall by simply printing money? Did it also ever occur to you that costs in the "private system" are directly affected by decisions in Washington?

You think the tide is turning in favor of government run healthcare? You can't be that ignorant.

I think you missed the point. I believe it's the democrats with the dilemma. It is clear that the public in general is not to keen on the public option and do not want to end up with the public option rather than their current insurance. Let me ask you, if it is just a scare tactic, why have democrats consistantly refused to allow changes to the health bill that states SPECIFICALLY that illegals and abortion will not be funded in the legislation? If that is not their intention, why would it matter? Also, I believe the rationing issue comes with the fact that adding 40 million people to START with will further slow down a system because we will have to few doctors and nurses to handle the load. Is that a possibility? or are you just going to ignore that? I think you better hope people don't become more educated and informed. People do want an improved health care system, but your party will never give up rewarding the trial lawyers(no tort reform), abortionists( do you really think they will allow abortion not to be covered?) or illegals(current bill doesn't mention citizenship, it just days someone needs to be in the country for 31 days). Sometimes sheep have to think for themselves.

never posted on here for anything other than football - but god that made me laugh.

if you think this health plan is BS - you guys can reach congressman boccieri at this address. one of the specialty doctors at omni orthopedics in canton told me if this plan passed it would be a disaster.

you're right - if we don't kiss the president's ass and support his health care plan with the public option then we should not have an say in the matter. that discussion should be left up to experts like yourself - right?

I won't warrant that with a response, as was my getting in the sleeper comment. I can see the Hulk now , sheik has him in the sleeper , ref lifting the arm, it does not fall to his side... All over . I wonder if Bush ever pro wrestled ? That would explain a lot of things.

I can't see President Bush stepping in the squared circle. I can imagine him as one of the big-mouth managers though!! You know. "The Prez".
