Butch Davis is reportedly one of several candidates being considered for the North Carolina post.

Now will a team take a chance on John Cooper or will he forever remain in the ESPN U studio?

Longtimefirsttime,
Paul Hilton Butch Davis will not get it done if he gets the UNC post. You saw his let down against the black and gold. He didn't get it done in the playoff and was 1-9 against powerful Pittsburgh, where as "Pooper Scooper" was 2-10-1 against mighty Michigan.

Butch Davis is a heck of a recruiter and will get it done! If hired within 3 years UNC will contending or even a TOP 10 team. The pro level is alot differant because you have less control-- when Butch Davis was at Miami things were alot diferant than now! National Championship contenders every year and not alot of off the field problems or brawls!!!
Personally, I dont care what John Cooper does with himself!!

monte81,
You really think Davis will get it done? My Pittsburgh heart and soul doesn't think so.
Davis ran everything at Cleveland but failed to produce except in 2002 (their lone playoff appearance).
I will give Davis that he had a reputation of winning at Miami and also as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, who were Super Bowl champions in 1992 and 1993.
However, whatever happened to supposed defensive genius Dave Campo? Since holding the powerful Pittsburgh Steelers offensive machine to 17 points in Super Bowl XXX as the Cowboys defensive coordinator, he hasn't done a thing in Cleveland too!
However I'm willing to give Davis a shot. Far as "Pooper Scooper" Cooper, he wasn't so super.

Keno, you're wrong on this. As much as I hated that guy, he did wonders at Miami. He went down there right in the middle in the worst stretch of discipline at the U. Remember the Sports Illustrated article? He immediately kicked off everyone who was a problem and brought in some serious, serious talent. He had NFL players all over the place. With Miami, Florida State and other ACC schools struggling at a national level, Butchie could go to UNC and really make an impact.

College and pro level is a totally different animal with the amount of control a coach really has with the decisions! Davis had a knack of recruiting the best high school players in the country while at Miami and would do the same at UNC! Believe me he regrets ever leaving Miami for Cleveland anyway!! They said Lou Holtz couldnt turn around South Carolina? Or Chan Gailey at Georgia Tech?

keno,
how can you just say that davis "won't get it done" based on that your "heart and soul" tells you? did you even stop and think about it? clearly he was extremly seccessful at the college level. as much as i didn't like the guy, i wouldn't just write him off based on what my "heart and soul" tells me. maybe you just don't like him because he coached in cleveland.

Butch Davis took a program that was in shambles, on probation, had lost scholarships, and had a horrible reputation at the U and turned them into a first class program that would have won 3 Championships in a row if he had stayed. The man is as good of a college recruiter and coach as has ever walked the sidelines.
I hope he takes Cokers place and rights the ship once again! There's nothing better then seeing the Buckeyes and the Canes at the top in my opinion!

Amen, brother!!
Also keep an eye on Dennis Erickson & the U. of Idaho Vandals. We're half-way thru this season and the improvement (over the last 2 years) is notable.

I didn't realize Georgia Tech needed "turned around"? They've been to like 8 straight bowl games with George O'Leary and Chan Gailey. O'Leary was so wanted that Notre Dame hired him. Now, he is turning around the Central Florida program bigtime. In the early 90's, Bobby Ross took them to the National Championship with a thorough 45-21 whipping of Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl.

TC,
I mean a BCS team year in and year out! I know about the Ross and O'Leary teams!!! I was making a point about pro coaches or coaches that the media/fans thought were washed up have made a differance in the program when hired!!! Speaking of Nebraska-- Calahan has started them back on top! The pros said he couldnt coach college!!! Many others so Keno dont think its a fluke!!! Davis would be a good coach for any college team!!!
TC,
GT made me lose some money this past weekend! You better make a call to the AD!!!

Yea, I know, Tech sure stucnk it up last weekend. But, their coming back strong and will kick the Miami Hurricanes back to Miami this Saturday.
I know what you mean, they've been solid, but certainly not a BCS regular. The academics at Tech will probably never allow them to get enough great athletes in school at one time. They do have the nations best wide receiver this year, Calvin Johnson. He will be a top 3 pick in next year's NFL Draft.

Calvin Johnson is a beast! The qb was hurting last Saturday and didnt play like he usually does!! Hope they bounce back-- tough one again this week with the canes!! they should get this one-- the canes are not the same with Coker!!!

Johnson a Beast? True....as long as he is not getting SHUT OUT a whole game like he did at Death Valley. On a serious note, what people do not realize is that by the end of the year, Clemson will be a top 5 team. Mark it down, you heard it here first. The have the best 1-2 punch at Tailback in the nation with Davis and Spiller and they are only a sophmore and freshman.
