I was wondering how our fans rated the most memorable massillon mckinley moments games, plays, or events throughout the history of the rivalary!
My favorites:
1. 1988 my senior year we knew we were the better team and stopped their 4 game winning streak!
2. 1991 seeing my brother score 5 tds and run for 302 yards!
3. last year in the playoffs! They were so cocky and knew they would destroy us!(funny we handed it to them!!!!)
Least favorite:
1. 1987 we had that game and coach moronto made some dumb personnel and play calling decisions! I wanted to win that game so bad for our seniors!!
2. Losing in 1994 in the playoffs! Very disappointing because i felt we could have won the championship that year!
3. Anytime them dogs win a game against us is disappointing!

1974 -- Massillon record is 5-4, McKinley is 9-0 and ranked #1 in Ohio. Massillon, trialing 14-15, with just 1:13 left in the game and deep in our own territory -- we drive the length of the field and score the winning TD on a 34-yard pass play with just six second remaining in the game. Tigers come away victorious, 20-15. Unfortunately, there was only one playoff berth per region back in those days, so the defeat knocked the mighty Bulldogs out of the playoff. However, it is the sweetest win over the Dogs in my entire life.

That was my favorite memory of my younger days also! Eddie Bell caught the winning TD and I remember my dad & I running on the field afterwards. The 100th game was also special, as was our victory in the 1980 playoffs a week after they beat us at home and we made it to the Finals. In the 1982 game, my brother made a game saving interception in the end zone to send the Tigers on to the State Finals game also. Last years playoff game wasn't too bad either, LOL!!
GO TIGERS!!!

Good traditon there, tiger51:thumbsup:
I think that is one that would do our TIGERS well to adopt every year.

1964 & 1965 -- Both Earl Bruce heart-stopping victories.
1974 -- Eddie Bell (I still have to drag that album out and listen to it every so often).
1994 -- 100th game (What memories of the score going back and forth, marching in the alumni band -- what a wonderful day all around).
1999 -- After being beat by those dogs for 4 years straight and going over there and “cleaning their plows” -- it was fabulous.
2005 -- Playoff game (What sweet satisfaction -- and the memory of yelling “We are Massillon" to nobody on the other side).
BEAT, BEAT MCKINLEY!!! -- AND BRING BACK THAT BELL

that 1974 game was my oldest son's introduction to massillon tiger football...he was just a little over 5 months old...we were watching the game on the tube...i was holding him in my lap, screaming in the poor tyke's ears...scarred him for life:laughing: he has never been the same since then...
another great massillon-mck game was the one in 1977, when it was snowing so badly you could barely see the field at times...we won 21-0...that is a sign of a true tiger fan...sitting in a blizzard...

I'd rate the '74 and '94 wins in terms of the ones I saw. 21-0 in '77 was special as the puppies were undefeated going in, yet their winning 21-0 in '73 and '96 makes that score bittersweet.
How about Larry Harper taking back the opening kickoff 95 yards to open the '70 game. The Tigers change into nice clean uniforms at the half and take it to the muddy puppies 28-0.
How about scoring twice late in the game with Strawder making an unbelieveable TD catch to win 13-10 in '78 (Brideweiser's demise was imminent afterthat one!). Or we recover a fumble late in the game and score a TD shortly thereafter to win 7-3 in '76? Or pass-happy Zwick team hands off to Robert Oliver for a 30-yd TD (his second game winner in 2 years against McK) followed by McConnell's last second INT to win 29-26 in '01?
Or Spielman ripping off chunks of yardage and is not denied in scoring the games only score in a 7-0 win in '82?

?
I could be wrong but in '01 Robert did score the winning TD but I thought in '00 Perry James ran in the winning touchdown then Justin Princehorn had an Interception to close out that game?

TigerDL71,
James had the winning score in 2000, Oliver had the winning score in 2001. Ricky Johnson had the closing out score in 2002. During those three years in the era of the Waynesburg College head coach, he had backs that were hard to stop!

Ricky Johnson was the best runnig back we had the last 10-12 years! He was very productive and if we werent so pass happy might of challenged the single season rushing record!!! His season totals rank #6 all time if not mistaken!!!

lets not forget about terrance roddy that season, if it wasn't for him getting hurt that season i think he would have been right behind ricky in rushing yards

We have always had exceptional running backs! Always more than one peron to carry the rock!
Best backfields since 1980:
1991-- mcguire and ashcraft
1987-- myricks and stafford ( under utilized by moronto)
2001-- Oliver and johnson
1983-- johnson, spielman, and others
All currence and owens coached teams had superior running backs! We dominated teams with our running game-- thats part of the massillon mystic!!!

I wouldn't turn down Christian Morgan (1996). RJ was stronger, but CM was faster.

C.Morgan is my dude! He was a load with speed! He is built like a linebacker but runs like a safety! I had to play against him and his brother in a b-ball tournament 2 years ago and man we had problems! I still had 16pts. and 7 boards so I didnt feel to bad we lost in OT!! He is also in the top 10 single season rushing list!

My favorite Massillon-McKinley moment would be a toss up between the 100th and last years playoff game. Last year, to see Mck come out of their locker room and immediately walk over toward our sideline trying to talk trash. They didn't know what hit them, and man was it ever great to hear the excuses coming out of the Fair Weather Bulldog fans that night!!!!

I have so many great memories of this game going back 35 years or so......
Some quite personal, some as stated above. Massillon/Mckinley week is like a holiday week and I simply love it! A holiday week that does not involve fancy sit down dinners with family members we rarely see. It is rather a holiday filled with friendship and winners to be!
Sometimes Canton folk go home sad, sometimes Massillon folk go home sad. Regardless, one wish for all is to play hard, RESPECT EACH OTHER, and win or lose, let all players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, fans and band wagon jumpers - be safe! :sunny:
Go Tigers! Beat McKinley!

The 100th game. Someone told me that I was having a heart attack and I replied "I had that just before Halftime"
