What's the worst fashion trend you've ever fallen for? I grew up mainly in the 80's, so I would have to say:
Izod shirts with the collar flipped up
pegged jeans
stonewashed jeans
legwarmers-only wore them like twice before I decided they were hideous
the black rubber bracelets made popular by Madonna
big hair (lot of Aqua Net)
Benetton sweaters
Bass penny loafers
Anything from The Limited

I used to have to wear purple (I played sports.). Man it still makes me shudder.

LOL, LTFT, you are a classic yourself!
But back on topic; having been through so many it's hard to say, but off of the top of my head I'd have to say hot pink fishnet hose with white go-go boots! Hahaha, it makes me laugh just thinking about it, but the boys sure liked 'em:tounge:

The bad thing is Purple Army, is that all of these are coming back! I've seen the shirts with collars up, jelly bracelets, even the beads tied in a knot!
OOOH gives me the creaps knowing that I'm old enough that the styles I wore in Junior High & high school [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]are coming back in!

I think I would have had a hard time putting on a purple jersey. I think if I was a coach I would go for white jerseys and gold jerseys.
We used to peg our jeans in middle school. We also wore silk shirts. I quit doing this when I noticed that my friend's shirt would get completely drenched from sweat when we went to the skating rink. I also remember the girls had a wave going on for their bangs. In the yearbook we would draw a someone surfing on them.
How about the girls who wore like 10 pair of socks at once with the white shoes? Or how about when they would wear stretch pants or leggings under a dress.
Oh, and how could I forget jelly shoes.

I used to wear purple and gold when I was in school. Thank God those colors are gone from my wardrobe forever.
Orange and black now, Massillon always!!

Although, they say if you wore a trend the first time around, you're probably too old to wear it the second time around. So I won't have to worry about stocking back up on any of that hideous 80's gear!
Anything purple :puke:

The obsession with bashing Jackson and anything or anyone related to it on this site is hilarious.
You guys should check with your doctors to make sure you don't have OCD.

LOL, I used to have jean jacket with a bunch of buttons. Some of which said:
"Why be normal?"
or
"What if the whole world farted at once?"
 he said "farted"... LOL

I wore a gold silk naereu ? shirt for pictures when I was in either 4th 5th or 6th grade. Then in one of the following years I wore a Tom Jone or James Brown silk opened shirt. wore it to a party (ONCE). Thought I looked pretty good with either shirt.

I think it's time to take up a collection. You just know people would pay good money to see that. :eek2:
And I don't mean that in a bad way.

If they were on my young hot daughter, yes LOL!
I was just going to say the same thing about Nerus. I had a spiffy red Neru jacket with round gold buttons that I loved!

I just had a hilarious flashback from the 70's! First, my then husband and drummer decked out in grey high waisted dress trousers with a floral type of shirt with a WIDE stretchy waist band and v-neck and large collar, with the highest pair of blue and white patent leather platform shoes that would rival anything the New York Dolls ever wore! LMAO hysterically!
And I in wine colored satin wide leg trousers, also with a WIDE waistband and teeny thin metalic belt with a stretchy black and metallic glitter top!
Oh we were so fly:doh:

Kamd......I got a visual of that and could have swore you were talking about Austin Powers!!....LOL
Anyway....I can remember putting my older brother's platform shoes on and walking around the house in them.....he would get mad , and hide them from me, but I would always find them. :tounge:
As soon as the humidity hits 30 - my hair is big. No fashion statement there. :afro: :afro:

I haven't had to worry about fashion trends but the worst trend I am seeing today is young kids sagging with their pants halfway down. That to me is nasty and it's detestable!
Why people dress like that...I don't know but it's a problem to a three-piece wearing person who is about being well-dressed.

I won't go into detail or the reasons, but I have heard that this fashion trend started in jail. Anyone know if this is true or just a myth.
I have noticed alot of kids tucking their jeans or pants in behind the tongue of their shoes. Looks kinda silly to me.

austimsm11,
My mother and father would have chastised me if they saw me walking around like that! There is no place in society for a person to dress that way. Anyone who can walk the streets dressed like that with their pants sagging are not as smart as I think they would be.
I remember one time during a Mount Union women's basketball game, head coach Jennifer Henley admonished her team for their lethargy at the start of the second half and I happened strangely to catch the huddle as she said two minutes into the second half of an OAC game: "This is how we come out to start the second half? That's bull(stuff)!"
Dressing detestably? That is how a person is supposed to look like in public? That's bullstuff to me!

That is why I wondered if the origins of this fashion trend starting in jail are true. If they are, why would anyone want to be a part of it? Again, I won't really go into detail, but I have heard that it was started in jail for disgusting reasons.

I remember in my “younger days” we wore either Dr. Kildare or Ben Casey shirts to school… buttons down the side. And everyone had a mohair sweater (that went along with the white Go Go boots).
And, of course the BIG hair -- we teased and ratted it, put on Dippity Do and sprayed it until Hurricane Katrina couldn’t move it.
When I started working we always wore a dress or skirt -- never pants. And made of that wonderful double knit polyester. My, how times have changed.
Of course everyone wanted to look like That Girl!!

It was not started for the reasons you are thinking. Yahoo it.....or go to snopes.com, you will find the answer in about 10 seconds............

Thanks ChronicTiger. I guess this fashion trend did in fact start in jail, but not for the reasons I was thinking. It said that when prisoners get their prison clothes they don't always fit properly. Add the fact that they are not given belts and this is how sagging started.

Angfento,
Read the bold print and you will see exactly how I feel about people sagging...it's bullstuff!
People dressed unacceptably is enough to get under my skin to a degree. Whether it be sagging, holes in clothing, frayed, tattered, or whatever, it peeves the holy stuffings out of me!
If I had to hire a person in my profession, I wouldn't take anyone dressed unprofessionally even if someone held a gun to the back of my head (sorry for being dramatic about this) but people should know by now about the importance of being dressed properly!
It pains me when I see someone with total disregard for their clothing and how they look in public!
