I think it would be a good idea to put something on the back of our new scoreboard. Maybe obie, a block M.......lots of possibilities. It looks pretty drab from the back. It would be cool also if a small baseball scoreboard could be integrated into the back. Advertisement space could be sold on that side also. It just seems like a lot of space that could be utilized.

While that is a very good ieda, we can not do that. All of the workings for the scoreboard are accessed from the rear of the unit. This is the reason why the catwalk is on it.

right and good point, any modification would obviously have to allow for the thing to be serviced.
integration might be a challenge but I doubt somthing like that can not be done. The biggest problem would be finding any interest and getting funding.

Putting up a baseball scoreboard, that could also do a football score, about 10 feet behind it possible?

i know this topic is on the scoreboard, but on a related note, i have always wondered why we have never painted anything above the windows of the press box on the visitors side. i would think "MASSILLON TIGERS" would fit nicely there. i dont know, maybe it is just not a possibility.

Why would they need to put a baseball scoreboard behind it when they already have a very nice one at the baseball field that's been recently fixed? Not being smart, but what difference does it make what the back looks like anyhow? It's not visible when you are inside of the stadium.

i really like the idea of having something painted above the press box. it would really liven the press box.

great idea!

The ONLY way that would be possible is to replace the new structure with one that would allow a catwalk to be sandwiched between the 2 units. The new one installed last year was designed for the weight and windload of what is up there right now with some room for something bigger in the future. It's not designed to have a heavy load on the backside other than the catwalk that was installed, and future expansion to the upper catwalk if the need is there.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the scoreboard, while being LED, still puts off alot of heat and needs to be kept cool. There are fans that run to draw in cooler air. If someting was put on the back of this and blocks the cool air from coming in, we are going to have alot of issue and repair bills.

using that logic, I would ask why would you even put the name of the stadium on the outside? I cant read the schedule from the inside of the stadium, we should take that down also.....

New structure for paint and fabric.....I doubt it!
Again, modification of any existing structure regardless of what it is requires a lot of thinking to have the new portion integrated correctly. These are all good points and I'm sure you could come up with more but to say it cant be done or is essentially impossible is ridiculous.
I was walking around the baseball field the other day and noticed the view of the stadium from that angle is pretty bogus. The view is a huge black void. Bottom line is nobody really cares, even myself, just a thought..................

OK, even though I think this is ridiculous, I will reply to this question;
"using that logic, I would ask why would you even put the name of the stadium on the outside? I cant read the schedule from the inside of the stadium, we should take that down also....."

That is NOT using the same logic at all. When you go to a restaurant or any establishment for that matter, one naturally looks at the sign/poster/whatever to affirm where they are at. They don't go to the back of the building to look and see if there is anything on the other side. The name of a place is erected as a type of acknowledgment/announcement as to where you are.

HUMMMM but those customers (at a restuarant) do not use the side of the establishment as an entrance either, like using that side to enter the stadium!

Yes Chronic I also think something can be done but you are right about people haing interest and funding!

The scoreboard isn't meant to serve as a sign.

Point taken, and understood, it isn't that big of a problem.... this is Massillon though... we had to find something to whine about in July.

I agree with some sort of attraction above the pressbox on the home side. Something to let the visitors knoe exactly where they're at !!!
