So far, 31 players have been suspended for 1 game...1 GAME??? What a joke? These players should be suspended for the remainder of the season. this was a disgusting event, and a black eye on college sports.

miami is nothing but a bunch of thugs. their team is in a nosedive and they try to make up for it by fighting. the words "miami football team" will never be seen in the same sentence as the word "class," unless the word "no" is in there as well.
Remember it takes two to........................

Oh, you're right Al. FIU was no better in this mess.

Heck, from what I saw and read, it sounded like FIU started most of it.

FIU's player went after the holder (That's impressive) and another FIU player ran in and started kicking the UM holder in the head! I think the FIU players are lucky the stands didn't empty. There's alot of thuggery in the bleachers of the Orange bowl too.

Very well stated fyrewood. Everybody seems to want to lay the blame for this fiasco on the "Canes, but they did not start this whole fight. If someone attacks a teammate of yours like FIU did, I would expect the "Canes to defend their own!!
Let's put this in perspective, we are playing McKinley and we score a touchdown, and while kicking the extra point, one of the McKinley players takes a cheap shot at Huth, then kicks him. Would you want our kids to just stand there and do nothing?

Benchboss, while I'd be outraged, I also wouldn't want to stoop to their level.
As far as the UM-FIU debacle, one side is no less guilty than the other. However, Miami players were the ones running off the field pumping their helmets and fists in the air like they won something.
Also, UM has a recent history of thuggery acts, one on Sept. 16th against Louisville. Read this article, http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2627372&POLL260=800000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000000, and pay particular attention to the following excerpt:
Coker's concern may have been heightened after several other recent Miami incidents. It's the third on-field incident involving the Hurricanes in their last seven games. And there's been plenty of off-the-field ones, too.
• Several Miami players fought with LSU players following the Tigers' 40-3 win in the Peach Bowl, a brawl that quickly escalated into an out-of-control melee in the tunnel leading from the field.
• Shortly before the Miami-Louisville game Sept. 16, virtually the entire Hurricanes' roster jumped on the Cardinals logo at midfield -- an act widely viewed as a taunting gesture. Afterward, several Miami players chided teammates for their involvement in that incident.
• A Miami player was shot outside his home shortly before training camp began in what players contend was a robbery attempt. Meriweather returned fire at the alleged assailants. Police said he acted legally.
• Wide receiver Ryan Moore, who was sent home from the Peach Bowl for violating team rules, was suspended for the first two games of 2006 for other violations. He is expected to be charged this week with misdemeanors stemming from an August fight with a woman. He hasn't played this season.
Regardless of whose "fault" this was, how can anyone dispute the history of Thug U?

And, again I say that 1 game suspensions are a joke. The season should be the punishment.

Both coaches should also pull their teams out of any possible Bowl games and any off-season football banquets, award ceremonies...
And BENCHBOSS........it doesn't matter if F.I.U. started it, by looking at the tape on Sportscenter Miami is lucky the local prosecuter doesn't go after the player for assault charges swinging his helmet....
I would send that kid to the county jail for a week or two and slap 500 hours of community service on him.

I think several of these future Bengals should immediately announce their intentions to enter next years draft!

I agree with this viewpoint.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=2628365
ESPN analyst Bill Curry further analyzes the incident.
"There are two pains in life, the pain of discipline and the pain of regret. You choose. I choose. At times like this, the entire leadership cadre of organized sport chooses. We are at a crucial juncture. How we choose here will make all the difference in the potential perfect storms to come."

Don Strock has to be thoroughly embarassed and disgusted.

So far, only ONE Miami player has been suspended indefinitely, while ALL the players for FIU (except for two, who have been dismissed from the team) have been suspended indefinitely. So far, the Univ. of Miami President hasn't had the "balls" to hand down any more severe penalties than just the ONE game. They did can their ignorant radio announcer Lamar Thomas for the comments he made on the air, but the players involved need to be sent a message, and thus far, that message hasn't been sent.

I am a big canes fan and I will say this. I am disgusted with what I saw. Larry Coker has lost control of MY team and needs to be fired. As far as I am concerned both teams should be suspended for the rest of the season.

At least OHIO STATE has more class than these (to quote Dennis Miller) "freakin' morons." (That's the only nice thing I'll say about OSU).

I've often wondered if Donna Schalala really did have "balls" - if you know what I mean.

any one see the interview with lamar thomas on espn last night? how funny was it watching him try to weasel his way out of it. he tried so hard to make excuses and play it off, but no one bought that crap. he actually said that he was joking about wanting to go onto the field and fight, and that when he said that they should take it off the field and finish it he actually meant that they should just get the game started again. that guy is a complete fool.
he capped it off by saying that miami players are still being unfairly portrayed as the miami team of the past. it was then pointed out that miami has had a few problems in the recent past......like the incident at louisville which THEY started.
the funniest part was when he said that he was proud of the team b/c at the beginning of the game the coaches kept telling them to keep their cool and not fight back or throw punches. the reporter then pointed out how they DID end up fighting back and throwing punches. that kinda silenced lamar.

"Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!"
"You come into the OB talkin' trash, you should get your butts kicked."
The whole thing is just unreal. How can Coker look at those players jumping up and down on the sidelines with their helmets held up, after the fight, and say that he has control over the program. I think that coach is a really nice guy, and he's being overrun. This isn't an isolated incident. Miami danced at midfield before the Louisville game and got pounded. It's just nuts down there.

Before Miami hired Coker, they offered the job to Tressell. I wonder how this would have turned out if he were the coach?

With his comments and his attitude...YES! I'll tell you what...he's lucky that Marie or Kamd50 are not his parents...I know he would have got a slap in the face and the worst tongue lashing he ever had (I know Kamd50 would have got his hind end for sure).
