The Buckeyes have opened as a 10 point underdog to the Texas Longhorns.

I guess that they think this slow Big 10 team has NO chance.

Meanwhile Florida is a 4 point favorite to be the National Champion vs. Oklahoma.

DAWGH8R,

Aside from the national championship, this will be a game to watch. The matchup I am looking at will be Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy against the OSU front seven.

That will go a way into determining the outcome of this game. Plus, the Longhorns must keep Chris Wells from going over the 100-yard barrier. If he goes over 100 yards, it might be a long evening for Texas.

OSU doesnt have the speed on defense to contain the Texas O that is why they are 10 pt dogs.

I'll take OSU plus 10 and lay the 4 to OU. Especially if Bradford wins the Heisman. The "jinx" will be alive and well. The Florida defense will be jacked up big time to hold OU waaaaay under 60, more than likely under 30 and prove the big 12 defenses to be soft, and a Bradford Heisman will just add to the motivation to shut him and the OU offense down. The Florida D is the real deal. By far the best D OU will have played this year.
Now, the Buckeyes are another story. I think OSU got lucky when they were matched up against Texas, in the Fiesta bowl. OSU is very familiar with the Fiesta bowl and it's stadium. OSU comes in high as a kite due to their selection as a BCS team inspite of halving 2 losses. Texas on the other hand will go into the game feeling sorry for themselves. There's no changing the fact that they feel like they were jammed by their own conference, and jammed by the BCS. The coaches can preach about "proving themselves worthy of a title" and try to convince the players that they can win a split National Championship if they win big against OSU and UF or OU win a close, ugly game. That won't be the case and the players are smarter then that. Look for Texas to be out of sinc early and often. The only thing Texas has going for them is "Tressel ball". If Tressel goes into the game playing close to the sweater vest Texas will hang around long enough to win, and maaaaaaybe cover the spread.
Your thoughts?

TigerswillbeTigers,

You speak of the Heisman "jinx"? I don't see it as that...I see it as a team determined to play their best against the Heisman winner and not a jinx.

Texas is going to be an angry team after finishing #3 in the BCS.

I wouldn't go 10 points but I think texas would cover 7 points based on their team speed.

I'm hoping McCoy gets the Heisman as a consolation to Texas. Maybe then OSU will have a chance for an upset.

Keno,
The "Heisman jinx" goes far beyond the next game played (typically a college bowl game) by the player winning it, but in the recent past it has reared it's ugly head at some crucial times.

Below is a list of past winners. Ask yourself if any of these guys think the "jinx" exists. I'll give you my thoughts.
2007 Tim Tebow Florida QB (The jury is still out. Excellent jr. season)
2006 Troy Smith Ohio State QB (The banquet circuit didn't help him)
2005 Reggie Bush Southern California RB (Crucial fumble, Texas wins NC)
2004 Matt Leinart Southern California QB (Won NC that year but Pro career is in question)
2003 Jason White Oklahoma QB (Out of football)
2002 Carson Palmer Southern California QB (Great player when healthy)
2001 Eric Crouch Nebraska QB (Who? Lol)
2000 Chris Weinke Florida State QB (Nuff said)
1999 Ron Dayne Wisconsin RB (Mediocre Pro career)
1998 Ricky Williams Texas RB (Has been known to "light it up" at times)
1997 Charles Woodson Michigan DB/WR (Awesome)
1996 Danny Wuerffel Florida QB (Was he even drafted? Lol)
1995 Eddie George Ohio State RB (Big time Pro, short career)
1994 Rashaan Salaam Colorado RB (Uh huh)
1993 Charlie Ward Florida State QB (Pretty sad when College footballs "best player" is a below average Pro basketball player)
1992 Gino Torretta Miami QB (I'm gonna ask this one more time. ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME?)
1991 Desmond Howard Michigan WR (Worthy)
1990 Ty Detmer Brigham Young QB (The power of prayer can only take you so far in football)
1989 Andre Ware Houston QB (Excellent announcer for ESPN)

TigerswillbeTigers,

That's a pretty good list you have there. 2005 and 2006...Smith and Bush ran up against teams that were determined. Tebow...he's poised for #2. Other than the ones listed, Woodson is still flourishing in the league.

You sure know how to make a guy like me think, don't you? I'll hand it to you!

Look for Chris Wells to get his predicted ding early in the game, pull himself out and be a nonfactor. In his mind he doesn't want to be damaged goods for the NFL scouts. Whether OSU wins is a toss-up. They won't win if they play Tressel ball and turn the ball over late in the 4th quarter.

McCoy has more rushing TD's then Wells.
Texas wins 38-20

tiger#22,

I don't see Ohio State allowing 38 like they did to LSU last year.

Texas 31-16.
